Do you want me to get the reciepts for this? I recall something along the lines of this spec is a failed experiment and if you like it you are objectively wrong and the fact that it is a failed experiment is objectively correct cough cough cough.

Dooooo it.

Even 8 years ago Bepples attacked people that liked it because for some reason their liking it was their fault it got taken out.

Pretty sure when it dropped he was on the whole “Will kick them from my group if they’re survival” squad that was clogging the forums.

Clearly a mentally sound individual.

The rotation feels pretty good, even though I missed RSV. I hate the theme though. Throwing bombs and being melee just feels weird. Traps, caltrops and other things I’m all for but when our big damage is a bomb from point blank it’s just so hard to get into the spec without feeling overly cartoonish.

you’re definitely entitled to your opinions I just neve really understood this feedback at all

They’re free to like it somewhere else

Survival remains one of the best designed specs in the game (primarily for PvP). You won’t use a lot of its kit in PvE unless you want to…

I think a tad more survivability and it’d be golden, tbh. A cheat death mechanic would fit the theme. Mending bandage baseline would be lit.

I don’t know if there’s a more fun spec for BGs in the game.

Pretty much it would be suicide. Like something from looney toons. It should only be usable from ranged. How cool would it be if it were buffed a LOT, but required a disengage, bomb, then harpoon back? Would add to the fantasy AND make more sense.

It’s literally no different than any other AoE ability? What about when your warrior friend uses Bladestorm right next to other mDPS and pets? What about when a Warlock casts Rain of Fire? What about when Poison Bomb procs from a Rogue and throws a noxious explosion down at their own feet?

I’m talking about just solo. Obviously in a group setting we’d all kill each other instantly.

This is a ranged spell and designed to be used at range. Sometimes it’s on top of yourself if mobs are on you but again, it’s magic. At least head cannon one could say they are immune to their own spells. It’s apples and oranges to throwing a bomb point blank unless you’re arguing they are magically infused.

Again this at least can have some head cannon of rogues being immune to the poison in a variety of ways, or take preventative measures. What’s survival hunter? We wear a bomb squad vest under our armor so shrapnel doesn’t affect us?

EDIT: To clarify, I’m not against bombs. I just wish we’d use them in a more thematic way. We have disengage and harpoon. If we had to disengage/create distance to use them, but compensated the additional difficultly with more damage I think that would be really cool. We get up in their faces, hurt them, disengage and throw bombs in their face to finish it.

Thematically sure, but in practice? If you have to use your movement abilities in your damage rotation, then you’re kind of up a creek without a paddle if you need to use them later for movement.

They’re still casing a rain of fire directly on top of their allies or their own pet, or like you said, directly on top of themselves.

If you’re going to head canon this you can easily head canon the same thing for WFB.

SV is a ton of fun, glad to see others enjoying it.

big oof there

Is this reasonable person behavior do you think? Do you think a well adjusted person responds to something from almost 5 months ago or do you think that says something about you?

yeah, it’s really bizarre how he replied to such an old thread lol

I hear you. Love sv on my hunter. Feels like a true beast master type. Love being able to actually use non exotic pet and can enjoy some of the other pets in my stable.

There are a lot of buttons but doesn’t feel overwhelming like outlaw rogue.

I think they can tweak marksman to kind of get that feel back for the old ranged survival maybe? But personally, I really have been enjoying the melee and flavor of the spec too.

I believe they could do this. People really miss Serpent Spread and LnL being a satisfying dot based proc—these two things would make 2 or 3 talent nodes tops

It’s not good enough to just have Cata/MoP ranged SV haphazardly crammed into another spec. We want to see a modern ranged SV with expanded mechanics and more depth like every other spec got when going into Legion. The groundwork was already there in WoD, it was just stolen away.

Well, that’s clearly not going to happen. Maybe in MoP Classic+ in 2057?

Cata/MoP SV was 2-3 passives and 1 unique ability to the spec. That’s not haphazardly crammed, that’s a strong function of the current talent trees

Melee SV was also clearly not going to happen until a particularly eager idiot who specifically wanted melee SV got put in charge. Some very unlikely changes in direction can end up happening with the right changes in staff.

Because classes back then were much less complex than they are now. They had a lot fewer spec-specific talents across the board (i.e. all classes, not just Hunter). A modern ranged SV would have its own talent tree and spec-specific mechanics just like any modern spec.

If you don’t believe me, just look at how things were at the game’s launch v.s. Cata and MoP. At the beginning the Hunter specs all played identically, with almost all differences between them being purely passive. Yet just a few expansions later and they all had distinct playstyles and themes. That trend would have continued going into Legion even if SV stayed ranged. After all, MM was already getting reworked in Legion so half the job was done right there.
