I misunderstand or social contract is too vague

If you have this big of an issue, you probably should not be playing social games, with the bans you describe it sounds like your the issue and cant handle a social environment the contract is nothing to worry about.

Blizz specializes in vague wording so they can action base on their opinion.

i’ve yet to do that and yet i’m still there, no warnings or bans or anything. :open_mouth:

It’s almost like nothing has changed.

I wonder how many people, who didn’t know about it prior to launch, actually read it  What would make people who generally don’t read ToS/EULA
https://www.businessinsider.com/deloitte-study-91-percent-agree-terms-of-service-without-reading-2017-11
To go “oh a ToS/EULA” I’ll read this one?

That part of the contract starts “While in Azeroth, do your best to:”. As far as I know, only I define what my best is.

I have also stated this in another post.
I understand the amount of effort just to go to the store. The , “do your best”; phrase also got me unable to sleep. The ; " Make Friends ", I needed to rewrite in my mind; then post it, or not play.

To the posters that think this is made up, sorry you do not understand.

Don’t bother trying to reason with this person or offer sensible advice. They will reject all such help while continuing to try to engage good, helpful people into trying to help them.

You are not required to help anyone according to this “social contract.”

It says “do your best to . . .” in a subjective manor. No one’s going to ban you for not helping someone else kill a mob or for not answering a question in trade chat or whatever.

It’s just a suggestion for things you might do to be a decent person in game, not things you have to do. And no, people who don’t help are not necessarily “not decent.”

The only part of the social contract that you have to abide by literally says “subject to punishment” and that part is the same EULA/TOS you’ve already signed (or you wouldn’t have an account)

then you’re intentionally reading things into it that aren’t there to stir up drama.

(see how reading things into it that aren’t there works?)

thats the whole point they wanted it vague so they can ban more people for what ever they want.

How often did you get in trouble inGame?

It’s no different than the tips they put up, on the loading screens.

The only things that actually matters is what they say you can be reported for. Their “while in Azeroth, do your best to” are not reportable offenses.

after scrolling up and reading…man this thread just needs to be closed and 404’ed

none of us here are capable of giving the OP the kind of support he obviously needs, and he’s just being (I’m not even going to call it trolled because really… it’s not) conversated into a rage.

trolling this guy would be super, super easy and this thread has the potential to hugely devolve.

They do want it vague enough so that when a big problem comes up that hasn’t specifically been listed they can still deal with it. That’s why all these user agreements are vague. It’s also why some people will always ask for specifics as to what they can be punished for, so they can find ways to get around the rules.

I’ve been a forum regular on many different forums for many years. I’ve seen this type of thread before. It can absolutely wreak havoc on a forum as helpful people try to help someone who needs help because of what we are told is a mental condition but refuses all sensible help that normal people can give.

Yes… you are absolutely misunderstanding it… the social contract DOES NOT require you to be social in any way shape or form. What it DOES DO is set a basic guideline for what sort of behaviors are and are not socially acceptable when you are being social.

Put simply…

If you are not social in game, the social contract changes nothing for you.
If you are social in game, the social contract sets rules for social interaction. The rules boil down to “be a decent person” and “don’t be toxic/rude/obnoxious”

Agian… THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT TO ENGAGE IN SOCIAL ACTIVITY.

They already could do that.

There’s been a line in the EULA since this game was released in 2004 saying Blizzard can kick anyone out for any reason at any time.

They don’t need to cook up some new “social contract” to do what they’ve always been able to do.

well they did and its more vague then the tos.
