I give up on tanking

Have you seen people do mc? Everyone will get their purple gear.

I am not saying that you are wrong. Of course we do that. What I am saying is that this won’t hold aggro when the DPS are focusing separate targets and using high threat abilities, not watching their threat, etc. In other words, it won’t hold aggro in a normal PuG.

This is not a deal breaker. I enjoy the challenge and it’s not as bad as some would have you believe – including me in some of these posts, but I was just trying to make the point that warriors have no “instant massive threat” button. We have several abilities that generate a decent amount of threat, but really need several GCDs to get solid AoE aggro.

In a perfect world, we could mark targets and cc, etc. But that is not the world we live in. Alternatively, you can just run with friends.

Hahaha.

I’m no rogue expert, but if you are having agro issues, that’s sure to cause some.

And a likely dead rogue unless he’s outlevelled DM/VC.

It doesn’t get any better at the higher levels. Unfortunately years of playstyles have been engrained into most players and it shows with many of the responses here. About the only place you’ll have anything close to normal would be in raid environments and maybe guild runs.

Not discouraging at all! I’m not talking about a race to the end. More so, if a tank loses aggro, who cares as long as nobody dies? It’s just not a big deal IMO.

Often to happen with dps higher level than the tank.

If you yank it you tank it.

If you were still clearing the dungeon, then it doesn’t matter. If you were wiping over that, then it’s just bad groups.

I can solo most caster elites, especially ones that rely on fire or frost. I do the group a favor my keeping aggro on one and burning it down.

In some situations, not having all aggro of all mobs at all times is beneficial to everyone.

If nobody is dying or complaining then you just need to adjust your unmet expectations.

that is part of why he doesn’t enjoy. He should create a guild, train people, and get over it. Be productive. You want something either you do it or you cry about it. /end grow up.

Tanking even on live is somewhat frustrating for tanks at lower levels. Folks have no patience and consideration for the most part. You have to decide if it’s important enough to you to stick with it a bit longer til you get more of a toolkit.

As others have suggested find a guild or a group of ppl to run with on a more consistent bases and it will feel better.

C’mon man… if you’ve tanked before you know how this goes.

  • Keep a friends list of good healers and only do dungeon runs with them.
  • Tell the DPS how the run is going down.
  • Make target macros and teach the DPS how it works.
  • Healer lets them die until they either leave group or adhere to the rules.

You gotta be a leader and have thick skin to tank classic. It’s a lot of work to be a good tank.

Yes, for actually doing something. Not just for logging in or doing 5 minutes worth of effort.

Run with guildies. Be an active tank and tell your group to back off. If they don’t, tell the healer to let them die. That last bit really only works though if a) the healer is someone you know or b) knows your struggles and is with you all the way.

I did that often when I started tanking in WOTLK. Most of the healers knew the dps were being stupid enough to pull aggro. You damn dps…:stuck_out_tongue:

The tank needs to lead the group. Lay down the rules beforehand. I’m a healer and will usually listen to how the tank wants to play unless they don’t know what they are doing.

Lol all it takes is telling people if they can give you some time. If they don’t listen it’s obvious who to blacklist. Quitting tanking just cause of that what a pussy move
Also why do all tanks want to hold aggro on every last mob all the time, whether someone kites them, pet takes it or wtv no one dies so it’s fine.

I cannot wait to boot clowns like this from groups.
Like it or not, the tank sets the pace, not the dime a dozen dps.

It makes things easier when you have a predictable group. Pugs are really a game of chance on whether or not you are going to have fun or waiting for a chance to alt f4
