I’ve been running dungeons on and off all day today and yesterday. I think the issue that is getting people banned is they are using a nifty little macro for their group to avoid the xp loss if you Q with a twink.
It’s exactly that.
The macro has been used for years, boosts have always been advertised on services, but never has there been a twink banwave like this. If they wanted it to be done with then either do a blue post talking about it, or go back pre anniversary and restrict timewalking to lvl 30+.

Did the macro always let you bypass the XP nerf? Come to think of it how long has that XP nerf been in the game?
The XP debuff has been in the game in some capacity since 09, afaik. But i know that avoiding the xp debuff is how the boosters did it through the years in some way or another.
And again, if its such a big issue, why go with the nuclear option lol. Bonehead move. This is a result of how they did the scaling. 70 boosters are viable because of the changes they made in TWW, so if thats what they wanna fight against, then theyll probably get some legit f2ps in the crossfire.
I guess they mustve gotten an influx of new players/accounts during the anniversary, realized they couldnt monetize them (if i can boost myself, then why pay for lvl boost in shop?), decided to ban them. Its not like theyve been interested in fixing the broken Shadowlands trinket, or the Tanaan drops, or other scaling stupidity that actually enables strats like these.

If we’re talking about the one where manually grouping with someone who’s turned XP off reduces XP gain, that was added mid BFA IIRC.
There have been ways to avoid the debuff since it was added, but it seems that blizzard has decided to start suspending people for (probably repeatedly) exploiting those bugs preventing the debuff from being applied when it should have been.
This very likely would not catch that many new players, since new players generally don’t have the gold or motivation to get a leveling boost.

They shouldve given a heads up if thats how they wanted to interpret their ToS. Again, some of the banned people have been playing and twinking for years, why now so suddenly?
I sincerely doubt this is something they actually planned thoroughly, boosters also use 70s, 10s are more popular due to how easy it is to set them up, and TWW made them even easier to set up. All the people who are reportedly banned are 10-11 twinks.
Nothing wrong with twinking.
It’s the exploiting bugs with the companion debuff that got people actioned, and people have very publicly been suspended for exploiting bugs in game for many years.

And id be inclined to believe that if it wasnt for the only consistent similarity being 11s doing Timewalking being banned. 11s using those same macros outside of TW are fine. different level boosters on TW are fine. Why is it just the 10s in TW getting banned?
For me to believe that Blizzard would never make a mistake on this level, is to suspend my disbelief. Ill wait until the blue post gets dropped or until TW is back to 30+ and twinks can boost happily in Chromie time.
That would be because the bug(s) that were being exploited were basically only being exploited by twinks.
There’s no reason to bypass the XP eliminator debuff if you don’t turn off XP, and thus never have to deal with that debuff.
People who dont use macros and just solo queue into TW also got banned. Like it has been said on the thread. Why the need to ignore it to just try to serve the cool aid to everyone else?

Twinks are allowed. Using twinks to bypass the XP debuff for other characters that would normally apply that then allows those other characters to boost in level abnormally, isn’t. In other words, exploiting the game isn’t allowed. Surprising, I know.

hmm, i read all the comments and unfortunatly seems like there is not clear answer, eirther for the lack of comunicantion from Blizz or for the shady statements of people getting banned that even if they are guilty claim innocence
for what i understand is that main reason should be use the trick to take the exp debuff from others in your made group
some people believe is for advertise themselfs in wrong channels, or selling boosting which also requires the trick to take the debuff off
there are also people claiming is the metod to take the debuff like that script macro thing
there are also chances to others that get lucky to get in a team with a twink to get banned it seems, but everything is so blurry
Boosting/Deranking are both entirely reportable and have a specific heading for such when you report for inappropriate communications.
First, I don’t think twinking is banned per se. But this week seems to mark a change in policy based on a ban wave of people bypassing the XP debuff of queueing with an XP-locked toon. I wrote up a detailed report of the XP debuff permaban if you’re interested in the details.
It all comes down to content scaling being a fundamentally bad design (IMHO). The only way to make this work is to make you weaker as you level. And if all content is scaled, what exactly is the point of levelling other than being an arbitrary time gate?
We saw this play out in an extreme way in MoP Remix where level 10-30 felt great and 60-70 was utterly miserable.
Even the world first players who are protected were banned due to reputation exploits, imagine the twinks who are bypassing a debuff that clearly shouldn’t be bypassed.
As it turns out, some of them got unbanned, while others didnt. Macro usage was inconsistent with the unbanned accounts. The only consistent reason as of right now, me writing this, is that they were queueing in Timewalking, with some gm emails saying that they shouldnt have been able to queue into TW with the XP off to begin with.
I just read all the comments on your topic, and i think the most useful was the one of the green who mentions what is allowed and what isnt
on the other hand there is people who got banned for only twiking and never exploit anything
or that is what they say, of course they could be lying
i wonder which the real answer is
