TLDR - It’s a boost exploit
what is TLDR ?
TLDR means “Too long; didn’t read”.
I can now see why you are easily confused. Welcome to the forums. It’s nice to have you.
For 7 days, NOT PERMANENT…
I saw your post and you seem pretty knowledgable, so I’ve got a question/concern to ask you if that’s alright.
I asked this in your big thread but I’ll ask it here too; I’ve gathered my thoughts a bit more.
So I was gearing a fresh twink last night and I encountered another twink who was clearly more experienced than me. We did dungeons together for a while - am I at risk of being banned for playing with them? I have no idea if they were exploiting or not - I don’t really have much reason to think they were but after seeing a lot of this discourse I can’t help but feel worried.
Part of my concern comes from the fact that I saw that they were carrying someone, but I didn’t think anything of it until I started doing more research on gearing twinks and then I saw everything that’d been going on recently. At one point I joined them in a group outside of the random re-queues we were doing and we did around 3-4 dungeons together in that group before I hopped off for the night. Again I don’t know for certain if they were exploiting, but I’m concerned enough to be worried about it. If they were exploiting and got banned, could I be caught in crossfire because we grouped together?
I can’t definitively answer this because Blizzard hasn’t communicated what exactly people are getting banned for plus I’ve seen more than a few reports of people having those bans overturned on like the 5th appeal now.
That’s part of the problem: we shouldn’t have to speculate about a change in policy, particularly when the punishment is so extreme.
That being said, my buest guess (and it is a guess) is that bypassing the XP debuff is the problem. But if you’re levelling an twink, you’re already XP-locked so it’s a non-issue. Plus you weren’t, by your account, doing anything whacky with the queues. You just happened to end up in that group so I think you’re relatively safe. It would be ridiculous if Blizzard considered twinking twinking to be a bannable offense with no warning after a decade of it being a thing.
Personally, I’m most concerned about grouping with my own alts, not just solo queueing. So the uncertainty has had a cooling effect on a bunch of people from what I’ve read.
I’d consider that very low risk but again, I’m not Blizzard. I certainly think re-queueing in a dungeon is completely fine. Queueing outside? Well, if all you did was queue then I think you’re fine. If you jumped through some weird hoops you may not have understood first, then I’d probably advise against that.
I had one last week constantly spamming their WTS macro in /instance chat.
Probably tied it to their Whirlwind.
