I don’t use weakaura, is that bad

Like what am I missing out on exactly. Not trolling, truly wondering.

Not bad it’s just a flavor thing I think. Helps with tracking cool downs and such. If you’re an aware person there is no need.

There isn’t much use of WA in classic imho.
On retail, I’m loaded with weakauras, in TBCC, I just got 1 for funzies to track Holy Shield stacks.

From my experience its really nice when a guildy or raid lead that you trust shares a helpful weakaura .

Just be careful about strangers

They mostly for convenience and QoL

Patently false.

Weak auras do significantly more than just “CD tracking”

They are one step away from just playing the game for you.

There are thousands of weakauras out there. They tell you boss / npc things, procs, profession CDs, auto clicking for summon / portals, i mean a million different things. Both spell / skill stuff and straight up QOL.

Do you need them? No.
Are they incredible tools? Yes.
Do you want any chance at PvP or semi hardcore parsing / speed running? Then its required.

if you just wanna chill and do your own thing and not play anything too seriously you can skip them.

I do enjoy pvp. Can I have some examples of good ones that addons aren’t already doing?

You don’t need weakauras at all if you’re a generally good player. PvE in classic is so easy on 90% of classes that weakauras don’t even really add much. Most pvpers mostly rely on things like gladdy and some other cd/dr tracking addons and don’t really need anything else. Top gladiator players don’t even need addons to hit gladiator ranks.

They are big QoL, but to say you need it to have a chance at pvp or semi hardcore raiding is just wrong.

LOL,

If Blizzard came out right now and said WA are banned, and nobody can use anything like it.

You would see massive uproar from the very people you say “dont need it” or “achieve easily without”

Helps with cd tracking, boss mechanics, other utilities. Definitely qol upgrade and player power upgrade.

People would be mad because its a big QoL addon and people have tailored their UI around having it. That doesn’t make it necessary.

What would you possibly need it for in PvE/PvP that isn’t covered by extremely common addons or just having a brain or basic UI set up?

The only weakauras I use are a burn tracker on brut that I’ve stopped actually watching, a mage squeak on death weakaura (very nice WA tbh), and a timer for KJ dragon shield timing which I only use to judge the person who is actually controlling the dragon. In PvP I use no weakauras and I’ve comfortably hit 2k+ which isn’t great, but its beyond what most people would consider just having a chance at PvP.

Most likely means you’re bad at the game.

Weak Auras really do a lot I recommend you give it a shot for these things:

  • They can alter the look of existing addons such as DBM/BigWigs
  • They can track your important CDs, Buffs, Debuffs in plain sight, allowing you to hide or reduce the size of your normal bars.
  • They can track and play audio alerts on boss mechanics if you are struggling with something specific.
  • They can track your RAIDS cds!!! “Is lust up?” “Does anyone have innervate” “CLEAR COMMS”

None of it is required, but definitely QoL. Blizzard didn’t start designing fights around weakauras until Mists**? if I’m remembering correctly. Even then, most people don’t ‘need’ them, just a good raid lead to carry you.

I don’t recomend using weak auras for auto-follow, auto-trade, or auto-anything with another player-character. Blizzard is likely looking for ways to break these uses of WA without hurting other addons (could be impossible), since they have banned multiboxing software and other automations in the past.

They’re a great tool. I dont really use them for more than CD tracking or buff/debuff indicators, but they can do a lot.

I don’t either lol. I tried in Retail and here but was like eh.

Not needed at all, BUT people might assume/expect you to have it. People make WAs for bosses and might expect you to be able to use it.

But its not needed by any means

This is a good point. Most of the time people don’t care what your UI looks like, but if you make a mistake once it is very possible the raid leader will link a weakaura to address that mistake and say “import this weakaura and don’t do that again”.

Always good to have the addon even if you aren’t actively using it much.

Is it required for polarity on thaddius? Of course not… did 90% of people use a WA for Minus Left Positive right?

Yes.

Weak Auras cannot interact with the game world. Where did that come from?

Weak Auras are popular because it allows people to quickly make light weight addons. Thats all Weak Auras are, Addons you configure in game. Without WeakAuras, someone would just make a small addon that tracks boss information or procs or raid cooldowns.

Anything you can do in weak auras, you can make with an addon. Weak Auras just let non developers make and share them with ease.

Lol you downloaded a weakaura for thaddius? Maybe some people did but there certainly weren’t weakauras linked in any of my raids (2 guild and 2 gdkp raids) for thaddius and it was literally not mentioned once because the expectation of not being braindead is easier than the expectation of having a weakaura.

I think the only time I ever even heard weakauras being mentioned as a “you should get this for this fight” before TBC was the first couple weeks of Loatheb to organize healers better and we quickly stopped because it wasn’t worth it.

I guess mages with communist ignite weakaura is the closest thing we’ve ever seen to actually needing a weakaura to properly play your class, but even that wasn’t necessary if your mages communicated well.

WeakAuras will basically play the game for you so that you can become an elitist sweat lord and pretend that it requires skill.
