I don’t use weakaura, is that bad

I use weak auras for two fights in TBC. A’lar just to auto say I had the melt armor debuff (just a QoL because I use push to talk on discord), and a counter for Brutallis debuff stacks on the MT, so I can swap weapons back and prep for the taunt swap.

My only other Weak Auras just track certain debuffs of my target, just so I know to ask for a thunderclap, demo shout, etc.

Basically they allow for picture perfect game play without needing to be actually good. They allow you to flawlessly time your CC, DR’s, interrupts, etc with very low risk of mistakes.

Depending on what WA you have, they will tell you exactly what buttons to push… Effectively it can be a bot that tells you what to do, and if you’re a good little bot your muscle memory will learn the frames and you will just automatically respond to the stimulus. Think of it like simon says…

TLDR you no longer need to actually be good, you just need to be able to push the button you’re told to push… PUSH THE BUTTON, DOOO EEEEET!

The same applies to PVE also.

Sorry my bad, not auto click. I mean auto whisper.

So you click on the stone, it PMs that person that they are getting summoned and to where, msgs the raid as well to help click.

One thing I find WA very helpful for is for giving me notifications when I get procs.

In Vanilla I wrote one that would give me a pop-up notification with a timer whenever my Blue Dragon trinket procced. I loved that one.

Another one I get a lot of use out of is a WA that displays your health and resource bars around your character. I don’t like my player frame to be in the middle of the screen but I do like to have some sort of visual showing me where my life and resources are at. It’s great for timing things like Ice Block, Natures Swiftness, Bubble, etc.

you could do that with a macro tho

#showtooltip
/cast Ritual of Summoning
/raid Summoning %T, help click!
/run SendChatMessage(“Summoning you soon!”,“WHISPER”,nil,UnitName(“target”))

Thats for warlock summon… I believe im talking about the summoning stones outside of raids for any and all to click.

oh i see now

This made me laugh so hard, I almost spit out my coffee. Dude… There isn’t any isn’t any way to be on par “awareness”-wise outside of being “Rain man” or above. It’s impossible for any person to be aware of ALL things in the game that weakauras is able to track. It’s able to track things you can’t even see, let alone even know exist. Lets not pretend like it’s a “skippable” addon if you’re even semi-serious about the game.

Outside of UI customization (looks only)/dmg meter, it quite literally replaces every single addon by itself.

You’re talking to the Neo of WoW here.

Serious tho I’m more Low low usage of the potential of WA, you can definitely just make the game play itself if you want but not entirely necessary for the average player I think. Progression raiding in a guild expecting it for sure.

Weak Aura adds to Classic basically some features that are later implemented into Retail. For example certain talent or trinket proccs are not obvious so you can add visual effects for when they do.

You can also track armor, weapon, and set piece chance on hit proccs as well. It’s a QoL addon but do you need it? No. Would it be a big help? Yes.

Basically it tracks buffs and auras.

Its just extra instructions for people

  • Time to Kill (super useful for classes that use potions throughout a fight)
  • Lava Jump (who doesn’t like showing off)
  • Intervene Tracker (that changes based on target’s gender)
  • PVP Flag Status (makes it more epic)
  • Profession CDs (cross character)
  • Raid Consumes (dynamic based on class and spec)
  • HUD
  • Auto Restocker (never again run low on reagents, vials, ammo)
  • True Offense/Defense Calculations
  • Loss of Control (optional announce)
  • Swing Timer
  • Shielding (ie PW: Shield)
  • 69 (use your imagination on when it fires)
  • Auto Loot (auto rolls/passes based on instance and loot grade)

Theses are just some of the Auras I have. I know some are silly, and some can be done with addons. But. Addons require updating. Weakaura just requires WA to be updated and for you to figure out what might have changed (usually an API key getting depreciated for another one).

You do not need them to Orange parse. Even more so if you haven’t got so used to having them and created a dependency.

There is a not insignificant risk with weak auras, especially when an aura is designed to be helpful for a time while it’s nefarious purpose lies dormant, as a vast majority of players don’t deep dive on what they’re installing.

Some of them clearly can be helpful but for me they’re simply not worth the risk and, for my successful play style, they simply are not needed.

One i like for pvp is tems loss of control effects. Have a movable window that emphasizes current cc debuffs on you with duration and also announces them in party chat

I use a WA to track my Slice and Dice better, instead of tracking it amongst all my other ticking down buffs in the top right.

Pretty much it. You can hard change the game with WA usage, but heavy usage really isn’t needed in Classic.

Have a look :eyes:

Potentially, a lot

And it goes beyond this, as you can make your own stuff!

As others have stated, they’re much much more relevant in complex encounters, so you’ll find them more used / required in retail mythic content, but there are some quite useful ones in TBC.

Personally I like raid / dungeon auras. They tell you important things (casts, debuffs, buffs) and what to do, so you can basically know what important thing every single add is doing (often not caught by something like DBM) without diving deep into research.
