I defeated the mage tower tonight. My thoughts

still tryin… still dyin… still hatin this stupid frikkin crap… it’s a broken mess. overtuned? more like under-cooked and under-tested. just… how could they let this out the door like this…

un-fun. this is just… un-fun. challenging? difficult? if this is what you consider this stuff, then you consider games like dark-souls easy. this… is beyond challenge.

I’ve been trying to follow this during the day but it’s hard to do so while working. Any update from Blizzard on changes?

Nope. Their community team is just as inadequate as the development team.

Give us an UPDATE! @Linxy

I was afraid of that. Just checking.

The only time the Mage casts twice back to back is wave 2. Every other wave I controlled using a combination of interrupts and stun.

It doesnt have to be chain casts. The problem isnt the casts being back to back. The issue is with the target of the casts.

“The mage NEVER casts on the same target twice in a row. If he does, you lose. Period.”

This statement is contingent on the Mage casting “back to back”. If he casts on you first, and then gets stunned and interrupted, then casts on you again, it doesn’t convey really the same power you were intending, does it?

You can control if he casts back to back or not. Using your kit isn’t luck.

All of these encounters seem so unfun and I hate that they aren’t normalized for everyone. I’ve played very difficult games and those bosses were great but this is clunky and weird in design. No idea why people liked this stuff so much.

Sadly i think they buffed some fights instead of Nerfing, there were a couple yesterday i could get down to like 20-30%, now on these fights i can’t even break the first phase on some of them. : / Unless it’s a bug but i have reported it. Also i had a couple of attempts on Agatha where she literally spawned like 20 imps at once… And i was just kind of like “Wait what?”

Not having Legion mechanics for this is definitely rough. I hope they do tune it down significantly. I completed almost all of them the first time around and it took an enormous amount of time. It was fun and exciting, but it was also entirely new. Going through that same progression grind on a revisit with less tools doesn’t feel very fun to me.

I’m sure they’ll reach a solid middle ground

Personally, I find these timewalking challenges extremely upsetting for someone who didn’t play during Legion or on characters that havent stockpiled BiS enchanted gear from the past 3 expansions. Sadly, any casual WoW player will not obtain these transmogs or the mounts especially without making a “best in slot timewalking set” with overpriced AH enchants, gems, consumables, etc. that are outdated for current content and useful only twice a year. Please evaluate well, I’m a rather seasoned WoW player, been playing well over 10 years off and on. I came back to the game recently and was very excited to attempt to gain some transmogs I had missed in Legion and possibly the mount with my alts. I attempted about 20 times on my Havoc DH and about 15 times on my Guardian Druid wearing their current content gear and i could never get past 10% into phase 1. I am not going to waste my time on this overtuned garbage any longer.
Please, Blizzard listen to us.

Nope… It was tested on PTR and people gave feed back on it. Instead of listening to the players, typical Blizz decided to make a last minute boost to the health and damage. I can’t think of a company that is more out of touch with it’s clients than Blizzard. I swear that they intentionally do this and then “fix” it to give a boost to their fragile ego’s and appearance.

Unfortunately, this is seemingly the norm. The PTR was there, tested and results gauged from battle metrics. Somehow, the idea was a complete change/boost, that had the developers decided to TEST that on the PTR, could have given this information ahead of time.

Now, you’ve got timegating issues. Unless Blizz plans on extending the event, the fixes “may” come into play, but now you’ve put an unrealistic timeline of schedules of folks because you’ve essentially cut a week out.

The candidness of this is they knew what they were doing when they did it. Development QC is fail when a team tests something, gets feedback and metrics, adjusts it, tests again only to take the most recent data, go live with un-tested mechanics/tuning - and timegates the entire experience.

That’s the entirety of what happened. I appreciate your communication, and absolutely do not envy your role having to bear the brunt of everyone’s frustration. The decision making to go live like this put you and other community managers in a bind as well, because it most likely blinded your team this was going to change - PTR > Live.

Hoping this gets extended and fixed, but not holding our breath. Thank you and stay safe

Suggestion:

Can we have the option for Legion items in there? It’s just so underwhelming to have absolutely no fun borrowed power abilities enabled nor the items we collected in the first place.

I mean there will be dinosaurs on this dinosaur tour yes? and by dinosaurs I mean fun and engaging gameplay.

Someone who’s good at math (not I) should calculate what percentage of player power that artifact weapon + legiondaries was back in legion, then apply that % to mage towers like a 30% ICC buff.

So like for example(not actual numbers), if artifact+legiondaries were 45% of player’s total power back in legion, then we should have a 45% power buff when we go in the towers.

A big one to consider are the interrupts available to certain classes. Many of them had much shorter CD’s ( in regards to the ones doing the Twins fight) than what they have now. That is the biggest thing making it way freaking harder than before.

I completed the guardian druid one

I completed the fury mage tower on attempt #6 without going out of my way to make a tw set and I’m as casual as they get (I literally play with an Xbox controller and do wq’s/lfr lol). I think as long as Blizz can tune them in the same ballpark as that one, they’ll be fine (I haven’t tried any others yet–maybe the fury challenge is easier than intended?).

I went in on my Fury War alt almost never playing him, he’s 50 with junk gear and I got farther knowing next to nothing.
