I wonder if mergers specifically for faction balance are going to be a thing? I was not anticipating that.
oh you know, just a certain group that can’t go 2 minutes without screaming I’m gay for attention.
hmmmmm.

Oh, if you didn’t know, Proudmoore is known as the LGBT-friendly realm, and has cultivated quite an open-minded and friendly community over the years.
You may ask “But what does your sexuality have to do with WoW?” to which I can answer, in short, it is a social game and because of that, it matters. It matters when you join a guild, because you don’t want to hear someone using slurs or telling you you’re wrong/lying/disgusting, and because you want to talk about your partner openly without hatred, and because you want to be recognized as the person you are, and because it’s fun to discuss LGBT culture with your friends.
My guess is with the merger, people are afraid that intolerant people joining the server involuntarily will make the place less hospitable to the LGBT community already present, tearing down the established community within.
With that said, I’m surprised it’s being paired at all, not because of that, but because it’s a Full population realm being paired with a High population realm. Isn’t the connections for low and medium realms? All this does is create a new Area 52 or Stormrage or Illidan.
I see… I forget these issues are even a thing (I’m bi so IDC) just thought it was baffling.
Wish mine was merging with Proudmoore. I’d be there if all my friends weren’t on E’T. Ironically, all my friends are on E’T because I talked them into it when E’T launched. Sorry, friends!
At this rate, there’s a lot of realms they could put together given the populations of Proudmoore and Hyjal.
Some examples could be like:
Thrall CR’ed with Turalyon
Bleeding Hollow CR’ed with Mal’Ganis
Kil’jaeden CR’ed with Sargeras
etc.
I’ve played and raided on Proudmoore. Great community with great players.
But is Blizzard going to be extra cautious with pairing them with other servers due to the players dubbing it the unofficial LGBT server?
Seems like this was bound to happen when they started merging servers. Like it’s great for other servers to be merged with higher pop ones, but just seemed like it was eventually going to happen.
I’m not sure blizzard is going to try and tailor each merge to see what’s best for realm communities just seems like they’re approaching this purely based on numbers.
I dunno if it means that Hyjal will become LGBTQ+ represented by association, but I do think it means people on Proudmoore who wish to have specific names might also make characters on Hyjal so they can get those specific names without a problem.
So uh - sorta? Not really.
And we’re already running into a problem right there. Character names I have on Hyjal, I’ve tried to make on Proudmoore and they were already taken. I wonder how ActiBlizz will determine who gets to keep their character’s name and who has to change theirs?
I’m not too knowlegable on Proudmoore or Hyjal but thank you for bringing awareness to that merger thread. I’m active on Mannoroth and wasn’t aware we’re joining another three. That’s cool
You keep your name, it’s just prefixed with your server name.
What Shadina is referring to is people who want both on both servers.
it’s just unneeded. i get what there trying to do but nah they can’t handle 2 high pop realms together. i didn’t whine when i moved all my toons to proudmoore when i was on mal’ganis, well korgath first then it went to crap so jusst leave my server alone. i want no connected realm.
I just want to be sure that this isn’t going to lead to destruction of our community. I don’t care so much about the economy and PVP and such, I just want to make sure the community stays the same. Proudmoore has that “small realm feel” because, despite its size, it has a tight-knit community of open-minded and friendly players!
If it is like other mergers in the past, names will be “Caelus-Proudmoore” and “Hatred-Hyjal” even in Trade. Hyjal won’t be going away as a realm, it’ll just be linked with Proudmoore, again assuming it works the same way.
Basically how it works is servers A and B combine to form not C but AB. So like with CRZ, you’ll see their server name after their character name, effectively allowing that server to have two of every possible character name.
So for Hyjal and Proudmoore players looking for a specific name, now may be the time to see if it’s not taken on the other server.
Oh! Duh, totally missed that one.
Playing both realms I can tell you that Proudmoore’s prices for things are cheaper than Hyjal’s, things also sell more frequently/quicker on Proudmoore. Just given that it has more people. If anything I think the prices of things are going to drop way down once the two realms are connected.
You get to keep yours. That doesn’t change. Names that’re shared will have a server name be more obvious.
For example, if I make a Shadina on another realm connected to Gorefiend, then when I log in on my guild on Shadina-Gorefiend, the server name will be there. If I log on a Shadina on Eredar, then it’ll say Shadina-Eredar. You have nothing to worry about in that department.
Nobody needs to change their names it’s a connection NOT a merger so names are unaffected.
