The amount of bias in this thread should make the internet implode.
Its really simple…
Hunters get priority on ranged weapons over melee.
Melee get priority on melee weapons over hunters.
There is no grey area. Anyone trying to advocate outside this paradigm is just a selfish loot ____re.

Well, some items are very clearly made for specific classes.
An an example if a 2 hander has relatively low weapon damage but very high agility, it’s most definitely meant for a hunter.
A warrior won’t want it due to low weapon damage, same as melee shammy or paladin. Rogue can’t use 2H, so that leaves hunters.
But in general if an item is not clearly designed for a specific class, then yes those rules apply.
Although hunters are only allowed to roll on 3 ranged weapons in the game apparently, as they are the bis and all others are stats for rogues and warriors.
In that case the same should go for warriors in my opinion.
But really only going for bis and ignoring all else is setting you up for disappointment, a upgrade is a upgrade. If a warrior raids as 2h as much as that gimps them over 1h he should get priority on it. Just as a hunter who doesn’t have xbow of smiting should get huhurans stinger over a rogue or warrior. This part I agree on.
Pvp and offspec should be free game though, who are anyone to question or deny a genuine useful upgrade due to their opinions over who is more optimal at using it when it doesn’t even affect the guides raids (the exception to this is a guild that does regular premade bg’s and could utilize a warrior with ashkandi to better the group overall).
I just despise the hypocrisy of rogues and especially warriors. There is such a sense of entitlement to all melee weapons and hunters are expected to use dungeon blues, or Lok’delar, which is a piece of crap. A hunter that has been raiding with the guild long enough to have more dkp then a warrior deserves their upgrades more, same goes for loot council. Pugs it should be upgrades are free roll, no ghetto last minute loot council, who can trust there isn’t shady dealings going on in a pug loot council?
Why would a hunter want low weapon damage melee weapons? You clearly mean hunters get the scraps.
Because melee weapon is largely a stat stick to them. Melee damage costs itemization points. If you give up some of that, you can get more stats instead on the item. That’s what a lot of later phase caster weapons do. Sacrifice melee damage to get more itemization cost available for caster stats.
That said, I do not know of any non caster weapons in the game that actually do that. If I’m wrong and there IS a hunter stat stick out there that does that, then feel free to correct me. I don’t have all the itemization in the game memorized.
it’s an excellent hunter weapon.
That’s not how it works really. Dark edge of insanity has insane dps as well as insane stats and a insane proc all on the 1 item. (not a hunter weapon just an example of high dps and stats rolled into 1)
Right. It’s like a stat budget though. Items of a given item level have a certain stat budget allotted to them. Everything has a different budget cost. Stat, proc, damage, etc.
You can spend up to the budget of that item. Caster weapons in later phases spend less on melee damage to get more stats. Check the melee damage range on lots of them.
Several times throughout wow’s life they’ve adjusted budget cost of different stats.
Dark Edge of Insanity just has a very high item level.
If there was such a weapon that gave up melee damage in favor of say, crit, AP, Agi etc, it would be a fantastic hunter weapon. But I don’t think such a thing actually exists.
Absolutely we’re giving Ashkandi to our Hunters. Why the hell would you want Ashkandi in PvE on Horde. Losing 305 WS is an enormous DPS loss.
On Alliance I can see that being fine, but 2h Fury on Alliance is a meme in the first place.
At least Hunters can utilize it as a stat stick if nothing else.
For PvP? Sure, but then it goes to whoever is the more dedicated PvPer, and class goes out the window anyway in terms of Raid benefit merit.

Hunters in your guild are stupid. Two Bone Sliding Hatchet’s with +15 Agility on each is better than Ashkandi. Give it to warriors.
OEB parses higher than Ashkandi in PvE, what?
Crap for both warriors and hunters. Give it to the warrior, makes sense.
If you have enough OEBs then shard the thing for all I care, point is, its not that good for hunters, there are better choices that are easier to get.
Ashkandi dunks harder than OEB in pvp. What’s your point?
My point is, if this is a PvP discussion, then obviously it should go to the person who is going to PvP with it.
If that’s a warrior? Fantastic go get em. If it’s a hunter? They need something to raptorstrike with too.
But if neither is a PvPer, then who actually cares?
Ashkandi is better in PvP then Lok’delar. What’s your point?
Not really. If they’re engaged in melee, they’re already dead. Unless their fighting a leather wearing no stam pve fury dps warrior they can two shot.
Any actual pvp build will trounce them though. Doesnt matter what they have.

Rhok’delar is the bow, Lok’Delar is the staff.
