Dodge requirement isn’t really a big deal. I have 15% base without Monkey. It’s really only “good” for pve though.
Maybe we get an improved stings rune.
Either way viper sting is 1 of those things that causes people to panic.
Sure it won’t oom you instantly but 2-3 vipers by a hunter who is killing you and causing you to press buttons is still going to oom you pretty fast
In your scenario the viper sting is VS you’re full mana bar, but you will be using mana on top of it to either do damage or heal thru the hunters damage.
They really should give a rune that improves all ranged abilities scaling. And competes with a rune that improves melee/trap ability scaling.
Examples
Rune of close combat
Raptor strike CD reduced to 3 seconds.
Mongoose bite can now be used if a nearby party/raid member (includes pets) dodges, blocks or parries, and deals 50-100% weapon damage
All traps gain AP scaling and fire traps are useable in combat
Rune of lethal shots
Ranged abilities gain rap or weapon damage scaling and frost traps can now be used in combat
Its just a rough idea, but you get the point.
I think a lot of the other rune slots will be passive buffs to our abilities.
I doubt every rune slot becomes a straight up new ability.
To many hunter runes are passive as is, but dedicating one rune slot to truely chossing melee vs ranged would be a good idea.
They could also make one specifically for weaving.
Example
Tactical fighter
Raptor strike now also causes you to gain 40% move speed for 2 seconds and causes your next 2 ranged abilities to cost no mana. (I chose 2 abilities because it will give us a reason to serpent sting or arcane shot depending on what is available)
as a BM hunter your pet should be doing MORE damage than you, not equal.
If the hunter is also melee weaving it shifts the damage scale much closer to 50/50. But it is a lot more effort than standing at range and pew pewing.
Hunters need something the gives spell power based on their ranged attack power. It would allow 99% of their kit to actually scale.
While i would love this,
The complaints would never stop
“Why is a immolation trap doing 400 damage to me?! Nerf it!”
Yet they stepped on the trap, didnt dispel it, etc…
Where does this idea even come from that pets SHOULD be doing 80/20? Who decided this exactly?
Pets shouldn’t even be 50/50, since AI shouldn’t be playing the game for you.
Who says? You? Where does this ludicrous idea come from? That’s like saying Demonology warlocks should have their demons doing majority damage, which everyone knows is absurd (felguard anyone?)
Pets aren’t AI. They’re controlled by the player. It’s a hunter ability, not an npc.
Press one button with auto use ability. Wow, such control from the player as it literally 1v1s most classes.
Kind of ironic too how you mention that hunters require more skill, when I’ve seen hunters doing 130+ dps in BFD, 80% of that coming from their pet…
Granted, hunters are not the epitome of complexity and nuance when it comes to gameplay, but if you really think that is all that is required, you have never played a hunter.
Obviously hunters require some degree of skill with weaving auto shots inbetween skills, but we’re not talking about the entire hunter kit. Only their pet’s specifically.
Warrior presses 1 button, okay.
Rogue presses 1 button, okay.
Druid presses 1 button, okay.
Mage presses 1 button, okay.
Shaman presses 1 button, okay.
Priest presses 1 button, okay.
Warlock presses 1 button, okay.
Paladin presses 1 button, okay.
Hunter presses 1 button, ahhhh this is so op and busted, nerf it now!
Sure, sure. Every class only presses a single button to do damage… I’d like to know what game you’re playing.
This thread is specifically about PvP. Explain to me what classes only press 1 button in PvP.
Hunter Pets are very broken, and Blizzard is taking very small small steps to “fix” it.
The top 99th percentile parses for hunters, people who have stacked world buffs and BIS gear, barely break the 100 dps barrier in pet damage. You can stop lying now.
Yes, the pet is a hunter ability. Hunters should be able to be competitive in 1v1 engagements.
Pets are their entire kit. Arcane shot does 33 damage and doesn’t scale. Serpent sting does 16 damage and doesn’t scale. They deleted explosive shot and chimera from the game. Other classes have abilities doing more damage than hunter pets. You just view the pet as a separate entity, when the reality is its a hunter ability no different than saber slash or raging blow.
Make casters and other physical dps classes ability to deal damage killable, and make them have to cast a 6 second spell after it happens to deal any damage again. Oh and make it so their weapons can run away if it dies too much. Pets are a huge weakness. Your complaints are skill issues.
I said hunters doing 130+, not just their pet. Their pet would be 70-80% of that 130.
If the pet is just “another ability,” then it’s hitting way too hard and needs to be adjusted. What spell in the game can be spammed for up to 300 crits with 70+ melees inbetween, all while additionally doing 100+ damage autos inbetween weaving other spells?
It’s pointless arguing with you as it’s clear we have opposite views and will never agree on this.
