It’s still sucky and this would be a meme. You’re going to either be AFK waiting for someone to show up, or pop it and get flared… and even if you don’t you need to sit still for 5 seconds before doing anything, which would be a major DPS loss.
Aimed shot doesn’t hit nearly as hard as chimera shot, so not using chimera shot when it is off of cooldown is a DPS loss as well. So, if anything, using chimera shot out of shadowmeld would be a better thing to do, but still a meme.
Yeah, why are we planning to “diminish melee”? Isn’t the point of season of discovery to do things differently than normal WoW? We want melee hunter to be good too.
Why do you keep buffing the base damage on this and not fix its horrible scaling.
This method of buffing the base damage has 2 major flaws.
It directly buffs the bots efficiency who need 0 gear outside of a bow and ammo to do dungeon farms, making gear nearly irrelevant for their efficiency because of how most of explosive shots power is in its base damage (and explosive trap).
It compounds ranged hunters main flaw, high base damage, horrible scaling.
It would be far better to give explosive shot horrible base damage but good scaling.
Example change explosive shots base damage to 1, change its scaling to 0.1 per tick (0.3 total). This makes gear matter, and makes hunter bots far far less effective at a dungeon aoe farm while making geared hunters about the same or better.
Also, please look into improving ranged hunter scaling by adding rap scaling to serpent sting and fire traps. But keep chimera shot-serpent sting in mind, which would need to be nerfed down to around 15-20% when serpent sting gets rap scaling. The goal isnt burst damage which makes pvp even more unbalanced. Its improving dps scaling over a fights duration when gear improves.
It’s about Hunters, not melee and ranged in general. Melee Hunters are way ahead of Ranged Hunters and they want to reduce that gap, pretty simple concept.
this was the one head-scratcher I had on these buffs. buffing the base damage on the spell just further compounds the issue that hunters had in orig vanilla, which was terrible scaling.
Well, ranged hunter is in a decent spot, but they are buffing effectively everything underneath it, which will result in it being in a bad spot after, but for once, blizzard seems to be looking into some of the design flaws to some degree. (Serpent spread will still be bad, but it can fully replace refreshing serpent sting when not using chimera shot now)
The sniper training change makes steady shot an option for MM hunters because it opens up 1.5 seconds (global CD vs 3 second cast time) to add a steady shot into the rotation, which still isnt a great ability but now with that and steady being 100% weapon damage can see a decent dps increase under perfect conditions.
With how they changed sniper training i would add to steady shot that it adds 1 stack of sniper training if both runes are being used, which complements the “stay still” playstyles of both runes by helping maintain 5 stacks even after having to move to get those instant aimed shots.
