I didn’t want to bring this up, but…. Titanforging was quite rampant in Legion before it got nerfed in BfA and eventually removed with the advent of Corruptions.
The Dauntless, Relinquished, and Unsullied gear tokens would drop for free from content, in addition to all the tokens you could buy with currency from invasions and treasures.
I had a toon of each class well over LFR iLvl that only did world content, without even farming for the Warforges and Titanforges. Tokens seemed to have an even higher chance of upgrading than gear from other sources, so you would end up getting lucky while simply filling out your set—and if you kept playing further your average iLvl was nearly guaranteed to surpass LFR or even Normal base iLvl.
I’m not advocating for the return of Titanforging. But it is a simple fact that dedicated open world players were getting Heroic and Mythic raid iLvl pieces, and could achieve an average iLvl of Normal or above. This could not physically happen in SL.
You mean when you got certain renown rewards that increased WQ ilvl, and it caused korthia to start dropping at higher levels base? That wasn’t random, that was deterministic.
Cypher gear always drops at the exact ilvl that shows up on the WQ icon, based on your upgrade level.
I honestly don’t think Titanforging is a bad or good system either way.
But loot drop rates for all sources were much higher when we had Titanforging or Corruptions—and loot was available from more sources—so if we could go back to getting more loot like in Legion and BfA, I would take it as a win.
Additionally, we’re experimenting a number of bosses that possess one item that intentionally drops at a higher item level - usually +6 or +7 from that boss’s normal table.
To be clear: this isn’t titanforging. It will be the same item every time, and will be very slightly rarer to compensate
To be clear this isn’t titanforging … lol. Except … functionally it kinda is like forging on the DL for one specific item.
If they, by their free will, choose to only play solo-world content then their progression path ends sooner than players who participate in group-instanced content. If they reach the end, then they reach the end. The rewards fit the difficulty of content being completed. They can choose to get higher gear with multiple other paths, but if they choose to sink their feet into the ground at the fork in the road, then that’s their prerogative to be stagnant.
The key element that made titanforging what it was is the randomness. That is completely deterministic.
It’s saying that (as an example), well Edge of Night is so far ahead of a base 259 agi dagger (if one were to exist when it was originally current), that it doesn’t make sense for it to have the same ilvl. So Edge of Night would always be 265.
there is no random aspect to this system.
And what I was after is what about those that want to do the GROUP world content but they can’t find a GROUP to do it with. They might or might not have interest in instances, but what it takes for what they want is locked behind world content made to be done by a group.
When does that happen? Players are on at all hours of the day and night, albeit peak and off-peak. If you are talking about not being accepted into groups, they can always create their own.
Well, someone tried to say that you didn’t need to gear up to get world 1st, then haven’t responded when I asked about how they would hit the rygelon numbers without 9.2 gear.
