How would you fix WoW

Scrap this entire borrowed power idea. It’s utterly pointless. Player power should be base, not tied to some item or covenant. Which means no more grinding for anima, or artifact power, or azerite, or whatever the hell else they decide to conjure up in the future. Go back to the base design, you go up in levels with every expansion, you get a new talent row and a new skill or two.

Remove this arbitrary gating on flying. This was a step in the right direction, but still not far enough. How FFXIV handles unlocking flying should be the standard. You go around the map on foot once unlocking the areas you need, and then you fly. Easy.

Make crafting viable again. Make the BiS PVE slots come from crafting, bring new recipes with every raid tier, keep crafters the forefront of the economy. Also why did you give up on glyphs? There are so many cool things you could do with this and you just abandoned it right after it came out. Why?

Introduce player or guild housing. Make it instanced if you want, like our garrisons, but give those of us who enjoy decorating a reason to run optional content. Maybe add some recipes for housing decorations to the crafting professions. A special place to hang out with friends, or to invite others to. No one hangs out in cities anymore, everything is done by queues and summons, there’s zero reason not to do this. You should have done this over a decade ago.

Make PVP gear pointless. No special stats, scale everyone to whatever you deem is balanced and let them have at it. Skill should be the only factor in PVP.

Give us the ability to dye our armor, transmog doesn’t go nearly far enough. Come on now.

Remove LFR, and introduce special cosmetics for mythic tier/high keys/difficult solo content (ala mage tower). Let people queue for normal if that’s what they want. Let heroic be the end of the gear for that given tier, stop this insane power creep.

Stop making all of your content obsolete with each patch, it’s just a mind-bogglingly massive waste of developer resources. You have nearly 2 decades of content that you don’t use. Why? What business sense does that make? Scale it up, or scale us down, you have the technology, and make it drop currency so we can buy current tier rewards or cosmetics. There is also no discernible reason I can find that we don’t have mythic+ for all of the mythic+ dungeons from Legion onwards. Running the same 8 dungeons for a year makes me want to die.

Encourage people to be nice to new players, and actually enforce your TOS and punish toxic behaviours. You should have done this from the very beginning, the WoW community being a cesspool has nothing to do with (insert content creator here) and everything to do with you never actually taking action against the harassment, stalking, and abuse that has been left to run rampant and fester for the past 17 years. You have the power to cultivate the kind of community you want in your game, and this? Where we are now? This is on you.

Stop punishing players for mistakes so harshly, stop using penalizing game design choices because these can cause your players to turn against each other. Why does your key de-level when someone leave mid-key? It shouldn’t. Should just be a “welp, try again.”

Crack down on boosting and advertising spam.

Get rid of the factions, they serve no purpose. Let people play how they want to play with who they want to play with.

Remove the AOE cap, and revert the GCD changes back to Legion. Combat felt fun and snappy then.

Oh yeah, I forgot, stop treating your playerbase like the enemy. Show us that you give a damn about this game and the people who play it, because the feeling for many years now has been that of hostility from you to us, and us to you. That is toxic.

This is true but at the same time to ignore their feedback is actually a really bad thing. It’s what creates these completely out of touch fixes to problems that get misread and lost in translation. You need the feedback that is being provided if only to use as meta data to determine a best next course of action. You don’t need it at face value of course, just more data (even if less significant) provides a better basis for problem solving. It’s good to have the data and thus the communication even if the data gets dismissed fairly swiftly. Otherwise you have a problem with overfitting from solutions that get produced based on the limited data

Game play decisions should never have bad players as factors.

If Jim in accounting can’t get his rotation as a DH right that doesn’t mean we need to buff DHs.

It absolutely does not. But it does provide meta data on accessibility and ease of key sequence maximization, does provide data on variance in the maximum possible performance vs the standard, provides data on the possible predictive floor of what can be done with a spec all of which are important for good tuning.

The problem with your assertion, which by the way I am saying that majority of tuning or gameplay decisions should still favor people that are you know, actually playing the game and maximizing; is that it results in a skewed baseline of what is fine. This is something that affects everybody. It affects some much less than others. But the issue with this is the baseline of what is considered a bad player gets continuously lowered. This artificially raises the mean or standard of what is good play or what defines a good fun experience due to the excision of those below the mean. The artificial raising hurts defining what a good standard should be as a result where it provides the appearance that things are fine and just adjust. It’s an error coefficient that is small and negligible at first but does and will eventually hit a threshold where the specific portion of gameplay will in fact feel not worth investing the time vs reward.

I agree though, you never adjust based on one person’s opinion or even one small subset’s opinion but you do collect the data if for no other reason than to have the full breadth of the information you need before making a pertinent game changing decision.
