How to make Ret more fun

I would love this. After playing around on my DK on some mythics and heroic raid the knockback/pull immunity on Death’s Advance is so good.

Yea, I feel a little jealous watching a DK not have to scramble for a pool against the last boss of Ara-Kara. And they can have our horse now! I don’t think Frost actually uses that hero tree but still! :joy:

I’d actually like to see the whole Steed / Freedom portion of the class tree redesigned.

I do kind of miss pressing my wings button (I know I can not use Raidant Glory, but its just too good to not use it.) Also I kind of wish Freedom was not spell stealable like it used to be when it was a pvp talent.

You can totally not use RG and even Crusade if you don’t want to. It’s like a 7.5% difference if you choose Avenging Wrath and… whatever talent that’s not RG.

I know, thats why I said I know I can choose to not use the talent. >.>

I’m just out here trying to spread the word that Radiant Glory or Crusade aren’t as mandatory as the forums like to believe.

7.5% loss in st is massive. you cant outplay that like you could 2-3% of ts vs csaa

its even bigger in keys. that isnt optional

Is it really a 7.5% DPS loss? That’s quite large, lol. I bet you could unbind HoW and hinder your group less than if you skipped RG.

7.5% is huge, lmfao.
Besides, why complain about not having to push another button? The way it works now is great bc everything lines up perfectly. It is by FAR more satisfying and enjoyable not having to worry about the next button. Not having to worry if i should use wings now or later. Its just better this way.

this isnt a issue, why are you inventing problems to justify the disappearance of wings. pressing your main cd shouldnt be as complicated as your making it to be. this is ridiculous

Just because it is not an issue to you does not mean it is not an issue to others. Quit making it sound as if the choice to use your primary cd is not not an important one.

Not as ridiculous as your lack of punctuation.

it isn’t. Crusade is the only exception since it’s got a 2 minute CD so you might consider holding it for a big pull/boss. Otherwise it’s fire and forget.

Most macro wrath with FR even before tww.

Exactly.
It was already something that you paired with ashes anyways. So, it was a great service that blizz combined them.

Not really. It removes choice and indirectly nerfs wrath/crusade.

Not rly.
It makes gameplay smoother and removes bloat. It also lines up cds, provides agency by allowing for additional gcds, and removes the need to spend additional downtime for preparing to a set up cds.
The problem most are having, whether they know it or not, isnt how they did it, but their perspectives on it. Bc they dont have that button to push the notion is that they have lost some sort of choice, when realistically, putting the two cds together, you get more choice by allowing more time for procs, less time lining cds up, and more frequent cd windows.
Also, it prevents those long, boring times between cds when all you have is the base rotation and you feel as if you cant touch cds bc you have to wait for the next wings cd.
Honestly, i enjoy the new playstyle very much and thats saying something bc i very much hate blizz at many different levels and for many different reasons.

On one hand it’s really nice to have Ret so simple and satisfying, on the other hand it really needs something else.

I feel like I could hand over my paladin to anyone and with hekili and a ST fight they could parse really, really well without knowing anything.

But playing BoS on my FDK there’s other things I gotta juggle. There’s the initial CD’s and then slightly changing my rotation during BoS and then even using my defensives (AMS) for more runic power to keep it going and going. There’s a real penalty for dropping BoS early. Ret Paladin doesn’t have anything like that currently.

I think there’s enough room and terrible/dead talents in our tree to make something with more depth but I do think it’s challenging to do so without doing something annoying like UH DK and having 5 CD’s they need to hit beforehand.

Yeah, you can argue that it removes bloat, but is that worth also removing identity and choice?

Crusade and Avenging Wrath no longer become viable options when RG is such a big part of your dps, and because of that, Crusade and Avenging Wrath lose all meaning as stand alone cooldowns.

So then it becomes; why are you pressing Wake of Ashes?

Because Wake of Ashes does:

  • Deals AoE Damage
  • Causes a DoT
  • Activates Burn to Ash (if Crit)
  • Generates 3 Holy Power
  • Slows your target (Truth’s Wake)
  • Chance to proc Searing Light
  • Activates HoL/Dawn Lights
  • Activates Wings
  • (Indirect) Activating Wings - Activates the ability to use HoW
  • (Indirect) Activating Wings - Activates Stat Bonus

That’s a lot of “stuff” for one ability to do.

You lose the value, enjoyment and experience of pressing two “feel good buttons.”

Wake of Ashes becomes a grossly overbudgeted ability and Wings is no longer a “real” iconic class ability/cooldown that feels fun to press, but just a by-product of another ability.

(Compared to Colossus Smash + Blade Storm, Ascendence + Sundering, etc…)

Edit: and it’s not to say every other class is perfect. Meta is really fun to press and leap to your targeted location, but Essence Break could be improved, and so on…

again, why are we pretending that using your cd is remotely hard or “important” its a 1min cd, you slam it on cd and you only hold if things are gonna die or the boss is gonna go into intermission. heck its not even that important cause its a 1min cd.

the only valid reason that warrents the removal or wings as a cd is for players with physical disabilities. but even then that rarely happens

wake of ashes became a extremely bloated ability going into tww, i dont think its healthy for the ability to do so much things
