Classic is original Blizzard product and just feels more rewarding in every way to play. Retail is Actiblizz which is made for different generation of gamers. Different taste is all.
The beta highlights just how bad retail is. I’ll probably still buy the next expansion just for the single player story line but yeah…
I will treat BFA (Live) and Classic the way they are made.
BFA will be a seasonal competition that I will enjoy (I’m ultra competitive. Played Smite, LoL, Dota 2, Sc, SC2, Rocket League, ect) because of the cut-throat min/maxing and constant want to push myself as a player and my character trying to push as far as I can possibly go to reach the end-est of content.
I will play Classic to get away from the mention above. Classic is an actual video game with a psychological progression / fantastic use of needing to find friends in order to do content that I feel every online game should have. Slower progression with rewards that you get by teamwork and hard work from yourself in almost every phase of the game; along with incentive to do things outside of Raiding / Dungeon spamming. Incentive to explore the World of Warcraft.
If they changed the concept of a rotation as it stands with builders and spenders making up the vast majority of your play over methodical, strategical, situational abilities of ole.
If they got rid of every difficulty level and made progressing feel like actually progressing.
If they completely got rid of the new itemization where every stat is so meaningless they can be boiled down into a single concept called ILVL.
If LFD and LFR were removed completely.
If Tier sets were reintroduced in place of the current trend of introducing gimmicks to make us feel like we are doing something different despite the fact its the same, just worse.
If Professions were brought back as a viable concept which is only possible if we don’t have 100 different difficulty levels of dungeons filling in every possible gap you could ever need. Which also means no mythic+. A dungeon is a dungeon, then its done. Dungeons were meant to fill in the gaps, not difficulty sliders.
If Gold stopped being sold and the idea of actually having an economy and making gold meant something. This of course only works with no free gold handouts and they gave so many from MoP/WoD (Garrisons) onwards that the games just fundamentally screwed economically at this point.
If they ripped out the current Talent Systems and brought back actual talents that still cause people to this day to try new and interesting things. Its fun seeing how many people are going over talents and considering new ideas in the Beta. This is why talents were and still remain fun 15 years later.
If RPG features returned and they threw out all of the action game combat thats just flash with no substance.
I mean, they would have to recreate the entire game. Its not just one problem its the entire design of Retail that fundmentally sucks in every way for many of us. It has literally none of what we are looking for and many of us only come back ever in hopes that somehow the Devs have finally changed or the game will magically be better. It won’t, thus they are bringing out Classic.
Gonna be going full time for classic. Absolutely cant wait and have a bunch of friends that are gonna be joining up as well!
Absolutely agree. Like I said in my above post. Blizzard / Activision wanted to jump on the train of Competitive games being hugely popular and that’s what really put the extra few nails in the coffin for an actual RPG to exist in WoW.
I don’t mind it so much now with Classic coming out. But I really had a problem with it because I wanted to get away from the competitive type of games I have been playing for the last few years and just play something chill. Now Blizzard has me neck deep with competitive addiction and I can’t stop wanting that extra stat even if it takes 6 bonus rolls and the luckiest day of my life in order to get it.
It does go to show, however, that even with the extra hype revolving basically any new game (I’d call Classic WoW a new game with a 10+ year hiatus) and a large portion of the community not being able to play. Classic WoW is still pulling Twitch Numbers that Blizzard has probably never really seen unless it’s a huge event.
Also seeing other Streamers who normally stick with a very small group of games playing Classic and having fun with it - Blizzard should probably start getting the message soon that there is still room in the world for a real and authentic RPG.
People in the Competitive Community want / almost need a break from the constant head-bashing of min/maxing their skill to just do something… chill. There’s room for this Blizarrd, please listen!
I don’t like being the hampster on wheel forever grinding gear that constantly gets replaced in a week/month. Classic will have a point where my character can be decked out without worrying about a new patch coming in a month that will make all that work pointless.
Currently subbed. Not playing retail wow. Not gonna play retail wow.
Currently on private and hating it but it’s all I got right now.
I was looking forward to 8.2, but I don’t even care about it now that I have the beta.
I really want to like live, but it’s designed to feel like completing a list of chores.
Exactly what where I got. No sense in pushing to do content when they are going to hand you the gear. Retail has grown meaningless and shallow. I also like reaching a stopping point with my main where i can play it, but spend time on other characters. Retail just has way too much character maintenance.
I’ve unsubbed and moved to SWGEmu until Classic goes live.
I hadn’t actively played retail since the middle of Legion. I just got BFA this weekend, because Amazon was selling $50 Blizzard cards for a little over $40. After applying for a couple of credit cards(that I’ll never actually use), I got three of them for a bit over $60. I bought my wife and myself a copy of BFA and 30 days of game time each. We’ll play until we get to 120, maybe do some alt leveling/mount farming, and then we’ll probably move on.
Comparatively speaking, we’ve watched people streaming the Classic Beta every night for hours on end. I’m extremely invested in Classic just watching others play, and I can’t wait to get into it myself. I’d be lying if I said I would absolutely never play retail again, but I can say with certainty that I have much less interest in retail than I do in Classic.

I guess the time I spend on it will depend on how much I enjoy classic. I was a late BC player and never did vanilla but miss the old systems. I seriously doubt I’ll stop playing current WoW, because my wife played through classic and has no nostalgia for it at all, but is an active raider in the current iteration, and we often play together.
I played during Legion and started to play in BfA. I certainly feel nostalgic about classic and post classic wow. As a healer, you begin to feel a little useless when your tank is so good at healing themselves that you’re no longer needed. What’s the point? The only real reason to bring a healer is for end game raiding or poorly geared dungeons.
In Classic and post classic, my healing was needed and valued.
In the same token, a maxed itemized DPS now can almost tank anything. Why bring a tank or healer?
Again, in Classic and post classic tanks had to pull dungeon mobs and keep Aggro or else the group wiped.
That’s what I missed about Classic and post classic - you had to work as a team with each person fulfilling their part for the game to truly be successful. This created a social network and each class and especially each role became highly valued.
The only time I can see myself on retail is to repost auctions so I can pay for my game time that way for a few months, I already have tons of rare items like mogs, elixers/flasks/pots, materials etc to post to the ah across two realms and several characters.
I have no interest in the current raids or future raids I liked it more when there was one set raid no lfr, normal, heroic, mythic. I will say that in bc heroic dungeons were pretty well done, the difficulty was up there as well as rewards bring great. I look forward to making 40 man raids, even ten man dungeons ( I think that’s going to be in I’m not sure)
Reasons I like classic more than retail, I like the journey and adventures you go on with friends, the community and the need to socialize nicely rather than spew salt rampantly at one another. ( That’ll still be there but the community I saw in the demo this November was totally 180 so many nice people!!)
More reasons, I miss the hell out of the old talent trees, I loved that some classes were better at one thing than any other or being more unique.
Overall I really enjoyed classic, all of it! And I can’t wait to carve out my place in classic leaving retail behind. I won’t be getting the next expansion unless it’s required to keep my classic account open, though I tho we would know if that was the plan at this point.
I stopped playing retail in April 2018. Waiting on Classic to play regularly again.
Haven’t really enjoyed BFA at all. I’ll be playing classic and seeing if next xpac is worth or not.
I don’t see myself never logging on retail again but in the current state of the game and the direction that it has been heading in, ever since the very of of WoTLK really, until/unless it changes I’m sure 90%+ of my time playing WoW will be on classic once it releases. Maybe that’ll change if the retail version gets better in later patches/next expansion, not really expecting it to but I’ll remain hopeful.
I tour every expansion. Nothing grabbed me like Vanilla. I probably won’t set foot in “Modern” WoW again once when Classic rolls out.
Currently touring BFA for the first time on my Warrior. A whole lot of fight, cutscene, fight, cutscene, fight, ride a vehicle, fight, more exposition, fight, ride a vehicle, more exposition, etc.
Nothing really super engaging. No equipment I get is worth remembering. The world still feels claustrophobic.
Not digging it. There are mechanics which I’m sure people like but it’s not for me anymore. I’ll be happy with classic until the end of time.
subbed to have an “active” account, the day before beta started, can not even bring myself to try and farm gold (for tokens) on retail. Guess, I will unsub if no beta, until release…save myself $30
