How many of you will actually stop playing retail WoW?

I’ll probably keep this hunter geared enough for guild raid progression but otherwise I’ll be maining Classic. Already got the green light to GM the classic sister guild so a lot of guildies from retail will have a home.

I haven’t been subbed in a very long time. I played classic up until cata. When I saw pandas I knew I had to call it quits. Skipped MOP, WoD, And legion. I came back to BFA because I fell for the hype and quit after only two months. I’ve tried many other mmorpgs and none satisfied me for too long. Classic is my home.

Very few people will be quitting retail for Classic. They’ll give it a go for sure but will return to retail eventually.
Retail releases will still have the mystery of ‘new worlds’ to explore. Classic is a known quantity with no surprises in world or story. Even the hardcore classic apologists will barely hit lvl 20 before realising ‘I’ve honestly done all this before’.

An old Veteran here, from Pre-BC. Who started shortly after launch.

I’ve played through Pre-BC, BC, Wrath, and half way into Cata when I quit.

A few reasons…

To many changes…Hunters got beat over real bad. From Mana to focus…I had several rotations that were now worthless…one I designed, several hours of hard work - GONE.

AV had been ruined…from the several day long AVs to maybe an hour if you were lucky.

PvP ranks had been removed…for what? We never got a good explanation on that.

I just don’t like Live…I never have.

I was working on to High Warlord…the highest of the Horde PVP ranks when they were removed…I had just gotten Blood Guard, man was I mad.

Focus doesn’t work all that well, its a shallow system IMO. It has no depth like Mana Hunters did…and I can promise you…same geared, same level, same experience…a Mana Hunter would destroy a Focus Hunter every time.

They can last longer, they can switch to a new rotation if they need too. It was more adaptable to what was going on around them.

Not, trying to complain, just giving you my real honest opinions on it.

The biggest concern for right now on Classic…is the AV we are getting. It hurts me inside to know I won’t get to experience those old epic super long AVs that you could grind Honor for HOURS in.

Oh well…I’m returning because HOPEFULLY (not confirmed yet) Mana Hunters are coming back…for classic anyway.

I don’t know if i will leave retail forever but i’m definitely not going to be playing it for awhile after classic drops.

I’m not a fan of the AP grind they seem to be going for in current and future Xpacs, or the mission table that they seem to insist on keeping in the game.

After watching all these videos and streams of people playing vanilla and seeing all the spells we’ve lost over the years it makes the pruning they did feel even worse.

Dungeons feel more like they’re built for speed runs then actually being some dark forbidden place where once you got inside you knew you were going to be here for awhile.

While some may enjoy this i personally don’t, some of my best memories in this game are from dungeons like SFK SM BRD and Scholomance.

Leveling in retail is hands down the most boring thing i have ever done in a video game, i have to struggle to keep myself awake when i try to level a new alt.

Which is sad because my favorite thing to do in this game was to level alts before cata/the pruning, still not sure which one of these is worse to me.

Raiding means very little to me these days compared to what it felt like to first step foot into Kara, Hyjal, in BC and Naxx, Ulduar, ICC in wrath and i didn’t really figure out why until recently.

This paladin jumped up by 30 ilvls from just doing one warfront and two world quests, my priest jumped up over 40 from two warfronts and four world quests,
this was all in done in two days.

They made it so that gear means nothing anymore, you don’t have to raid, you don’t have to do dungeons or even craft the gear anymore.

You can just do a few world quests and do a warfront and BAM in a day or two almost if not full epic. And while i was getting all this gear thrown at me it did make doing things out in the world feel a little easier but it also felt very hollow.

So while i may not quit retail forever but as long as things keep going the way they are i definitely wont be logging into my toons there or buying any future Xpacs for at least a few years.

It is precisely because I wouldn’t have enough time to play both that I most likely won’t play classic at all.

However, if 8.2 is the final patch of this expansion there might not be much of a conflict.

I am, I cannot even bring myself to do wqs anymore. I get to the login screen look at my character list, get depressed and close the game.

I’ll logon retail to do pet battle stuff probably when I’m real bored, but definitely not gonna actively progress in BFA. I enjoy classic’s gameplay, feel, progression. BFA doesn’t give me the same entertainment or feeling. The one thing I’ll miss from retail is pet battles and collecting even though I suck.

O wont have time for any irl stuff let alone retail.

Haven’t played retail in a few months will def put my time into classic tho sucks that I’m basically surrendering my money to blizz knowing how trash retail is

I’ll probably play both. I like keeping up with what’s going on in Azeroth, no matter how silly the story is getting.

Exactly this. Modern wow got transformed so much that it’s impossible for Blizzard to “revert” to how it was pre-wrath without out-rightly admitting they failed after so many years of trying - we all know that they would never admit that magnitude of failure.

Basically what I’m hoping is that Classic becomes a big success and 9.0 somehow emulate something or another of that design.

Also hoping that they release BC Classic in the future, because design-wise, it was the best moment of WoW.

How about I list the things that I feel Live offers than Classic does not?

  • A max level world (level 110 to 120) that is dangerous to level up where you cant cheat as you face mobs of your level. On Vanilla, you level up from 50 to 60 by killing billion level 48 boars or solo farm something 5 levels below you. Although you can face mobs higher level than you becoz Classic has high cap skill ceiling.

  • Dungeons that has unlimited difficulty levels… Mythic 0, 2, 3, …, 25+. And if you are new, you can just do what difficulty level that you can do. In Classic, if you are new to its difficulty, guaranteed wipefest. There’s a reason many casual noobs in Vanilla avoid dungeons becoz of their shocking experience on their first dungeon run.

  • Ability to create multiple toons that can max up multiple professions… allowing you to get all the resources all the player/guild needs.

  • Ability to create multiple toons from multiple classes. The raid needs tank, I have a Tank toon. If the raid needs heals, I have a Healer toon. In Vanilla, creating more than 1 toon is way way way harder. With multiple toons, I wont need to go over studying each of 51 talent points. I will just copy what’s the common one. I just need simplified talents like Live WoW and my alt toon is ready to go.

  • A progression that allows a casual to beat end game. Catchup welfare epics are welcomed. Loot gear is everywhere. Unlike on Vanilla, I have to wait for about 2 weeks when my DKP is high to get an epic. Playing for 2 weeks with no epic loots? And your wish loot drops 0.0001% chance and when it drops, you have to win it against 40 people who are in the raid and that Huntards roll on every loot coz all loots are usable to them like 2H swords instead of giving them to Warriors. And the guild leader gave the legendary to himself becoz he feels he deserves it. On Live, I dont need to commit to a raiding guild so I could avoid those dramas. I can beat Mythic raiding thru dungeon finder. All those raid on Dungeon Finder that says “AoTC only, underperformers would be kicked”. Those elitist group could beat Mythic raiding. Live is raining with welfare epics and most of them are garbage. Live is the same as Classic as you get upgraded gear every 2 weeks when on end game. But on Live, you have to sort out which epic is an upgrade for you from the bunch of Garbage Welfare Epic Loots.

  • A game that has improved mechanics.

Classic would need farming 2 to 3 hours before raid. Warlocks need soulshards. Hunters has to fill up his bags with expensive ammos, mana potions and pet food. With Live, I can even skip farming… buy that WoW token that is cheap and legit and any of my multiple toons are ready for raid.

Live’s Quests are easy to navigate. On Classic, you would keep on minimizing your WoW, open Thottbot to find where that f ucking Boars from my quest. You know Live shows me where those quest items from my map.

Live has no Frustrations on getting quest items. On Classic, when someone tag’d a mob, its loots is his. Imagine 15 people on that same area tagging mobs. Then after a few, 15 more people came to join on tagging mobs. You would realize that you only got 1 after spending 15 min coz the area is congested with people and you need 20 tag’d mobs to complete your quest. On Live, tagging is not an issue.

On Live, I choose whichever dungeon I want to do and I can go there right away in few minutes. On Classic, I cant. I need someone who has KEYS. I need to yell on IF and SW to form my group. And if I am in the middle of the dungeon someone left, I have to port out to IF and SW again to get replacement and run back to the dungeon.

On Live, dungeons are casual friendly. Casual means I have less playing time. I want dungeons doable on a short time. I can do Mythic+10 in 40 minutes. In Classic, dungeon completion is over an hour. And mobs has short respawn timer. When you have some wipes and you wiped again on the last boss, when you go back to the entrance, you could see trash mobs respawns. You have to clear them again.

And when you are done in Classic, what’s next? Request for TBC Classic, WoTLK Classic. And after 15 years, request for BFA classic? LOL.

As soon as Classic drops, retail is dead to me. If I stop playing Classic, I will finally cancel my sub.

I’ll probably jump into retail on occasion, if they release something I want to check out, but the vast majority of my play time will be focused on Classic.

I’ll still play live as well, but not nearly as much as classic. Reason being is because of guild and still excited about the upcoming content of the game. I figure since 8.2 will be out in June/July, you can go through that content and be done with it for full focus on classic. I’ll still hop 2 days a week for raiding, but will be playing classic for the most part.

Classic, Battle for Azeroth… guess what? It’s all “live” and “retail.”

I will continue to play retail WoW. Just not BfA.

I stopped in Wrath. So, yeah I’ll be full time classic. I’m dropping the other games I play currently as well, because really they are just burning time till classic gets here.

Why would I be done when I can keep on PvPing?
