Great News!!
This specific claim is actually untrue. Art assets such as models and animations are kept in a database, to use one you simply have to point the code at the correct database and location.
To use both, you now have clients trying to receive assets from 2 different locations to display what is happening in game. This means adding in a toggle function, which is additional work from having it pull from one location.
The reason why the toggle doesnât work in modern wow is because the old models donât work with the new animations, because the new animations use a different skeleton then the old models.
Woulda swore this thread was about character slotsâŠ
Here.
Here.
The bit youâre not accounting for is rig interactions. Having to develop them to work together.
And, praytell, where do I say Iâm an expert?
Stating facts does not imply I am a grand-wizard of game development.
Iâm sorry, is WoW P2P?
No? You mean there is a server that we are all connecting to, independently? One which processes all of the information and sends appropriate data back to the client?
You stated what you think are facts, as if they were facts. Implying you knew what you were talking about, while revealing you did now.
If this is the line of reasoning you use, then you should evaluate your own claims with the same tinted lenses.
As Iâm a software developer who has done work with Unity 3D modelling, I think Iâve got a decent grasp of the level of effort.
Shhhhh hey! do not spend next blue post with graphics
Great, and Iâve painted on canvas before, I think I have a decent grasp of the level of effort involved.
Except I couldnât tell you how to produce a Van Gogh.
Again though, Iâm not arguing the difficulty of producing the models. Simply your statement that it would be far too much effort to have the ability to use 2 different model sets.
Again, the difficulty is not in producing the models themselves. Thatâs a fixed cost because the new models/rigs exist, and the old models/rigs have to be reintegrated either way.
The extra cost that you have no idea about is the rig interactions of having one client using the Modern Rig vs another client using the Classic Rig.
It is my understanding that the client is communicating with the server, not client to client. Itâs likely my lack of understanding (as I have never claimed to be an expert) but If you could provide an explanation as to why the client would have to deal with modern vs classic?
The exact positions of things like weapons and arms on one character waving them around on one rig, would be in a different position when viewed on the other character. Depending on how their rig components transfer information, a swordâs position when in the hand on one rig, may appear to be floating a few inches above the other version of the rigâs hand, if the swordâs position is independently transmitted.
Given Blizzardâs complete lack of direct contact interactions (handshakes etc), they may have less work, but thereâs still work that needs to be done to make it not look absurd.
well, this is good info, however, A beta release date would be nice, or how classic alpha ended (today? yesterday) would have been better. I think the main reason we are not getting info is that classic will be doing better than BFA
That is awesome to hear, was assuming the PVP one would be there but wasnât expecting to have another full set of 50character slots for the account since it was tied to the retail sub last we heard.
You actually expect blizzard to monitor people using b.net chat to work as spies for the opposite faction? How would they even do that? Seems invasive and there is no way they have to man power to support that. People are going to do it occasionally and thereâs not much to be done about it.
And if they were actually worried about something being done about it they could use more covert options like a good old phone call and have their âspyâ be a rogue/druid stealthing around. Accusing players of collusion and getting blizzard to care? GL
Fine but if you guys arenât using a crapload of realms like you are on live, I expect the 10 characters per realm limit to be lifted. At least for RP realms.
50 char, wow that is way to any for a person to have. Do you think the player will actually play all those chars, no they will not. Hell, I donât even have more than 10 char on 2 realm and still canât play them all. Donât know why they are allowing this to begin with. Oh wait, because I donât play WoW 16hrs a day 7 days a week like most of you guys do.
Or gasp they could just restrict you from messaging a player on bnet that is the opposite faction. Kinda like they do in hearthstone if youâre friends with your opponent on the ladder you cannot message them.
