Anduin had a story to back him up. Over serveral expansions. Talanji was thrown in for 5 minutes and literally just exists to point out Rastakhan losing his ways. I am sure there is a trope somewhere to explain this blatantly abuse of an established lore character.

But yeah i agree. The theme of a band of unlikely misfits fighting together for survival is a pretty fun one to have.
And you can have pretty much any race or story going and have it work since its more open ended.

Not at all. Literally the entire Orc race fits into a single town. That say all you need to know about Orc lore. Thrall has run his race into the ground on purpose.
