Hot Take: Ban Doomsayers

Like… I understand what you’re saying, and I am inclined to agree with you in some capacity about it, but I also think what you’re advocating for isn’t dissimilar to what you and so many others are pushing back against OP for.

And I don’t think anyone is in the wrong to call that out, even if it doesn’t lead to a contributory discussion. Maybe that’s negativity begetting more negativity, but at the same time, the responsibility is on OP to guide discussion and initiate it.

If they aren’t doing that, then we shouldn’t be surprised that their posts are reciprocated in a similar way.

Yeah, the forums are full of a kinds of quirky characters lol.

I’m just annoyed there’s always a bunch of low lvl trolls in the weeds at any given point in time.

Nothing new, really. But a whole Battle.net account forum thing would help me see “who’s real” etc.

Same problem with Reddit and newly-made accounts trolling, same exact thing over there.

Maybe to avoid weird confrontations from overly argumentative people? I’ve hidden my profile in the European forums because people who got the feeling they were losing the argument used the metrics that where shown there to throw out the silliest attacks. Like “Oh now x and y come to your aid in this discussion! Of course! Must be your friends you’ve organized via Discord, because your profile says they’ve already given you 90 likes!”.
Sometimes it’s just out of privacy reasons because the profile shows when you were last online.

I don’t think it makes any difference what kind of character is used or what name. A level 10 character will basically have the same opinion as the linked battle.net-account.

In all fairness, trolling isn’t the only reason people set their profiles to private (not that it really prevents much stalking tbh).

Whenever i buy a product or sign up to a service/website, the very first thing i do is do a deep dive into the settings to disable all of the info sharing, account linking, advertising/data type settings, because they’re usually set up in the most horrible configuration possible.

Not saying that forum privacy is in the same ballpark, it’s just that cutting back on automatic sharing settings is my default mode lol

Well, having re-read the convo is as follows:

The level 10 said the first amendment doesn’t apply here because you brought up freedom of speech. The level 10 is correct in saying so.

Nerifina said “no one is trying to invoke the first amendment”, which was incorrect. Because you had done. The level 10 correctly identified this.

Nerifina then said the level 10 troll think they’re more clever than they are, even though all they really did was make a simple, concise, and accurate statement.

Because the level 10 accused Nerifina of lacking a fundamental reading comprehension because, in context, it would appear they do, you accused the level 10 of trolling.

Am I missing something here? Because from what I’ve read, the level 10 is entirely correct on all counts.

It was dumb of me to bring that up here, sure, because these are private forums not beholden to the American law of freedom of speech.

That being said, I will say whatever I want here, even if it gets me in trouble.

I’m not saying for anyone else to do the same, it’s just me.

I’ve been suspended for speaking my mind here and that won’t change.

The WoW forums are a microcosm.

Most WoW conversation happens outside of these forums, because you gotta be subscribed to even be here.

She didn’t add anything to the conversation at large (about doomsaying) and just went on to target me about “freedom of speech” which I know doesn’t apply here because it’s a private business.

TLDR - She’s really adamant about being correct lol.

Congratulations, you win… nothing.

And btw, I still think they are a troll. Just look at how they talk.

Ignoring them is doing myself a favor.

Please enlighten us

There is nothing wrong with arguing against censorship.

That’s a larger task than I’d be willing to do today for free.

Freedom of speech has nothing to do with censorship on a video game forum.

Like I said, it would be a mountain of a task to teach you.

So, you got nothing then. I understand what you are here to do.

I think it is funny you are calling people out for not understanding a topic, but you can’t even give a basic explanation, because it is too much work,

I knew from the first post. Already gave them too much attention, it’s done now.

Being correct about one small thing is their life goal lol.

There is a troll present here.

I’m sorry to say you’ve misidentified the troll and thrown the wrong person off the Among Us ship.

They also made a simple comment. The fact you’ve wildly overblown its importance is your fault, not theirs.

This forum is full of some of the most annoying people I have ever encountered online. Blizzard games attract a lot of people that only just play Blizzard games, so they tend to not have a lot of experience when it comes to gaming outside the Blizzard line-up.

The terminally-online are very mentally-unwell.

If trolling the WoW forums is a form of entertainment, I pity what else is going on lol.

I mean, you’re arguing with some here that have over 20k posts, think about that for a second.

Nah, you’re just not reading all their posts at this point and willingly sliding what they said under the rug lol.

Generalizations were made.

So disagreeing with you through simple and accurate facts is ‘targeting’ you? I think that’s a bit of a stretch and I feel like there’s no need to get so upset about it.

I guess nobody wanted to ‘win’, it was a normal point of discussion. Discussions are not a round in a video game, you don’t lose because you get corrected by someone.

I think you should reconsider your own behaviour before you accuse others of trolling. There’s no need to let it escalate like this.

What’s wrong with that? Is that a jealousy-thing I’m not quite understanding right now?

Yep the game is perfect! Blizzard is a perfect company that has not, cannot, will not ever make a single mistake! Every version of World of Warcraft is completely flawless so don’t you dare suggest otherwise. Straight to the gulag if you think that there should be any changes to this perfect game.

The forums are the single worst ambassador for the game which is a part of why they are so niche. Nobody wants to be told the game sucks and nobody wants to be told to git gud either.

That’s basically all that’s on offer here.

There are limited options:

Treat the forums as entertainment.

Avoid the forums.

Or cry about the forums impotently.

On display here is the last of the options.

I don’t view the forums that way. Sure, there’s a lot of trolling, and I’m even witnessing some of that now, but such a cynical attitude at that degree seems more like projection than anything.

If you have such a defeatist attitude about the forums, maybe don’t get on the forums?

Whenever I’m here, I’m sometimes reminded as to why I took a break in the first place, lol.

It’s like, just being here makes you take psychic damage over time.

The things people will say to you, just because they can.

I worry about the sanity of those that are here most.

Even the moderators couldn’t really handle it, which is why it’s mostly automated now. Remember Tseric?
