The Orcs didn’t actually have the power to open additional portals elsewhere until after they secured several relics from Azeroth. So its unlikely that Ner’zhul would have been able to open up new portals other than the Dark Portal itself, and with that gateway sealed… well, no dice. He gets no relics, so he doesn’t get to open a ton of portals on Draenor.
Which means Draenor actually doesn’t get torn to pieces and turn into Outland!
Okay, but that’s not how the portal works outside of the movie and the movie sadly is not canon lore. It’s an alternate universe.
It sucks because I really, really like the Stormwind City of the Warcraft movie and the size of the Orcs compared to humans, but… non-canon is non-canon.
The Dark Portal was destroy on Azeroth side. If simply putting a bunch of rocks to bury it would stop it I would have expected Khadgar to do so. The Dark Portal is more like an energy gateway that you couldnt simply block by burying. Either the rocks would end up in the Nether(think like a blackhole) or the orcs would pass though said rocks.
Trials in real life only occur to nations of Earth. You really think if an Alien invasion happened where creatures we’ve never seen before suddenly appeared through portals, did unspeakable things to humanity, pushed us to the brink of extinction then were stranded here we’d give them any rights at all? Get real.
I don’t believe in being civil to the uncivilized, don’t try and ‘gotcha’ me.
Not only is that headcanon, that’s headcanon you expect the Humans in game to believe. For all anyone knows the Orcs can just return to Azeroth a couple years later, with an army twice as big and knowing exactly what not to do to win this time.
I legit don’t understand how braindead some people can be.
“Ah yes, the solution to these green,7 foot, muscle-bound, murderous, genocidal, blood thirsty monsters who come from another planet out of nowhere is to just send them back through the portal they came. Surely we can keep winning a purely defensive war if they keep coming back”
I believe the portal was shut down, not destroyed. Yes, earlier material states that the portal was completely destroyed and a rift remaining in its place, but I believe that was declared non-canon, as when WoW launched the portal was still standing and there were no records of it being rebuilt or being reformed magically.
I could be wrong of course, but if the portal was completely destroyed and that’s still canon then it creates a major inconsistency, as the portal should not exist in WoW and should not have been able to be used to send us to Outland in TBC or Draenor during WoD.
So I think that might be something the writers have to clarify at some point in the future, maybe.
From what material I’ve read that details WoW lore, Ner’zhul ordered the Orcs to invade Azeroth a second time and recover relics that he needed to open more portals to ‘unspoiled worlds’. These relics included the Book of Medivh, the Jeweled Scepter of Sargeras and the Eye of Dalaran. In order to reopen the portal in the first place, Ner’zhul used the Skull of Gul’dan.
Without those relics, he wouldn’t have been able to conjure all those portals. They were all a vital part of why Draenor was destroyed and turned into Outland.
Hum, if said creatures are sentient individuals you can actually communicate with, which is the case with the Orcs, I’d say yes we should, of course ? Especially if you have the same values as a Light worshipper ? ESPECIALLY if you spend your time bragging about how righteous you are ?
I mean, fair enough, that’d definitely be a very Alliance thing to do. Just wish your faction was always that honest.
Well yeah, I totally get that. Which is why I said I understand the internment. I consider it wrong, but it’s an understandable wrong, all things considered. The humans did not know what to do with the surviving Orcs. It came down to a choice between putting them in camps and executing them. Out of those two, internment is the lesser evil.
I just don’t agree (and never will agree) with the slavery.
I think it was Antonidas or Terenas who considered the camps temporary measures, and hoped to wean the orcs off the demon blood to a point where they might be coexisted with. It’s unfortunate that the only AU we got to explore this possibility skipped straight to “Sober King” Blackmoore mustering them into another evil horde anyway.
Personally I think having empathy towards people who are feeling guilty about what they’ve done is fine. That doesn’t make what they did okay. It doesn’t wash away the stain, but, if someone is genuinely sorry, then I’d like to see that rather than see the alternative which is them just bringing it up as a matter of fact or not feeling shame or guilt at all for their actions.
Spoiler:
In the case of Duroz Scalebane, I think it’s good to see him be remorseful and guilty over what he and his clan did to the Red Dragonflight. He’s been punishing himself over it for decades, as he should, because what he and his clan did was horrible. To feel guilt and remorse is a natural part of life. He doesn’t ask for forgiveness, he doesn’t ask for his crimes to be forgotten, because he knows they can’t be.
No, I unironically want Alexstrasza to wage war against the Orcs, dominate them and then breed them for her army. Blizzard CLEARLY chose Alexstrasza as their poster girl to replace Sylvanas (who is one one of my favorite characters). If they so please to advertise this game with yet another attractive Elf queen, then by God, make it an elf queen who is not just a fence sitter with a halo over her head. An elf queen who holds grudges. If they so please to use Sylvanas memes for Alexstrasza, then give her what made Sylvanas an interesting character. Is that too much to ask? Am I unreasonable? NO. I want an interesting story. And I don’t like Orcs.
