To be honest I wonder if this is a big part of why I don’t actually have that big of an issue with the expansion’s story.
Faction pride is meaningless to me. I find it frustrating and pointless. Sure, I might make a few characters who feel immense loyalty to their faction IC, but OOC it seems silly to invest yourself strongly in the accomplishments of one faction.
Having pride in either faction, ultimately, will lead to disappointment. For different reasons perhaps… but it’ll be disappointing all the same.
Its odd that so many alliance players are commenting. The Horde is and does what bliz decide them to be and do, instead of letting the community define it self. Most of the horde player base still view the Horde as honorable, especially those who rp. Its a disconnection between the player base and Blizz. Blizz decided Garrosh would be dishonorable, that Syl would chose now to show her colors and undermine her own strategy by burning down the tree. This expansion could have been better if it was designed to cater to how we identify ourselves as Horde players, instead of the writers defining our community for us. This is why Horde morale is low, someone changed our mascot to a crap sandwich in efforts to be dramatic. And we have to eat it.
To be fair, don’t assume they’re only Alliance. I’d wager at LEAST 50% of us play both factions to some extent. Our forum avatar doesn’t make this clear, but I suspect it’s happening.
That’s an observation and not an assumption. I am looking at alliance character’s responding. In either case, a Horde player that identifies as or masks their post as alliance are really not the intended target of this post.
My problem with this line of reasoning is that there’s still a sizeable minority of Horde players (or perhaps a majority?) who are totally down with everything bad the Horde has ever done, especially the “dishonorable” stuff.
Which is an interesting look into American morality, but man, this thread would grow to a thousand posts if we talked about that.
I do not believe that is so, according to in game discussing, forum discussion, and other popular media outlets or streams the vast majority of Horde care and disagree with the depiction of the Horde. No one wants their team to be humiliated, we can take losing but not being painted the losers by bias writing. We have access to too much technology to not work out a more effective way to bridge player interests with content design…in game polling is one option
Deciding the game’s features through online polling sounds like a nightmare. There’s a difference between listening and taking into consideration, and handing someone who is barely literate the reins and saying “Does Sylvanas get redeemed? Make the call, Carl.”
Alright then, so I figure that I can give a decent position on this thread since.
I wont lie, the initial reveal for BFA left me in a bit of an ‘eeeeh’ mindset, but I figured Blizzard could make something of it. IRL expenses were more pressing at the time so my sub ran out and I didn’t have spare money to fix this.
The Horde burning of Darnassus, however, legitimately killed me interest in returning to the game as a horde main however. Sure, it’s a neat scene, but it was Blizzard once more blatantly throwing the Horde under the bus to pander to Alliance players as they did with Garrosh in MoP. To add to it, Blizzard only looked like they were going to continue sweeping any shady things the Alliance did under a rug and put forward no consequences as to pander to the Alliance players and throw horde players under the bus to do so. To add to it, all of Jaina’s questionable deeds and the fact she threw a temper tantrum in Legion, refused to help and got no reprisal for it irked me to no end because the message I got was “Actions have consequences, unless your Alliance, then things like mass enslavement are perfectly excusably and any reprisal is entirely unjustified because we know it hurts the average Alliance players feelings.”
Frankly, the only reason I am playing again was because a friend got my BfA so I could play with him. Unless the recent raid ends up resulting in the Alliance taking a massive shafting from now justifiably angry Zandalari who raze Kul Tiras as a proper reprisal, I wont be keen on this story which, in no uncertain terms, is hyper pro-alliance swill that is driving players from the game in large numbers and apparently right into Runescape.
Hey, as rude as it sounds that is essentially what she did in a nutshell. Yes, I’m aware the horde blew up your city under Garrosh. But see that? That invading army of demons is going to blow up the world regardless of if your favorite color is red or blue.
While this was my thought at first too, they did since show her having left to fight the Legion on her own. So she didn’t sit out the war that decided the fate of the universe so she could pout. She was helping, just lone wolf style.
It’s so weird how Jaina leaving the Kirin Tor because her whole city was wiped out by a bunch of the same people who were cool with it until Garrosh turned around and started oppressing THEM is a “tempter tantrum”, but Saurfang literally pouting like a baby for six months of an expansion is supposed to be a dramatic prelude to him saving the Horde…
At least Jaina kept fighting the Legion off-screen.
I stand by my case in this. As far as I care, Jaina being shoehorned in to help in patches with BfA is still Blizzard pandering to Alliance, and again Alliance players dancing around the fact because it’s convenient for them only makes the faulty claims of the person who made this thread more valid. I see Alliance players increasingly unable to understand both sides of the argument and Blizzard bending over backwards to pander to them and in turn driving players off.
Wow, Genocide has been going on for ages then since Alliance has essentially been exempt from consequences of any action since MoP. I can play this troll game two blue.
Yeah, this genocide thing isn’t such a big deal if you think about it. Really, didn’t everybody who got genocided kinda deserve it, if you squint real hard? What’s really a problem is Jaina being onscreen. I am personally oppressed by her having any story focus.
