Well it’s not rocket surgery, and it’s already been mentioned. The buff should be able to be removable.
Probably take about 2 minutes to fix it if they cared.

Seems more like brain science, if I’m honest. ![]()
Check out my “Why Should the Alliance have Faction Pride” for a lot of suggestions.
And yes, I’ve been playing since 2005.
It’s been swinging to the horde side for the past five years. That should be enough, right?
Just had this problem with an epic today. where someone dropped a feast of fishes on wintergrasp. I tried to message him but it said he was ineligible to be whispered. this seems to be a real problem. maybe there is like a horde sabotage guild or something kinda like how people snipe streamers
You should post it to the bug reporting, dev’s don’t check this.
I listed it in Bug Reports before putting it here.
This is a thing!
Horde is sabotageing bgs over merc mode.
I have been noticing this behavior for while now, but didn’t care much about it cause it was a eventual occurrence.
But it has not only increased the occurrence rate, but the audacity too.
One thing is 1 horde player eventually botting over faster time queues, another thing is a full fledged horde troll (meaning both a trolling player and a literal horde troll priest today) using the fish trick (and NO, you CAN’T click it off!).
You can only get the buff off by dying, a very long and slow death, and the hateful troll stuck around healing players so they could not die, thus preventing about a dozen players from being able to fight for as long as he/she remained in that BG, Wintergrasp, Alliance as defendant inside the keep.
I’m not trying to blame the mercs on Ally’s losses alone, Alliance might be losing BGs because ally is simply bad, tho I don’t really believe that, i’ve been playing on and off since vanilla, win/lose rates were always around 50% overall, maybe 40/60 on any given season, time of the day or specific BGs…
But merc sabotage is real, and is making it worse for the alliance regardless of how bad or good alliance is.
If the player base doesn’t want merc mode removed. I’d strongly suggest to tweak it, so that horde mercs as alliance would only form teams with other horde mercs.
That way, the incentive to troll as a merc is taken away, given that one would only be able to troll their fellow horde players. And horde would keep the benefit of having shorter queue timers.
And while the fish buff is gone after you die, nothing can stop the merc from grabbing a flag and then just running around waiting for the horde to bring the flag
Hence why I strongly suggest that merc mode is changed in a way that mercs would come as teams instead of lone players, never mingling alliance and horde players in the same team
Not everything’s a giant conspiracy, it’s just a bug and jerkballs being jerkballs with it.
I’m in a Twin Peaks BG right now where a horde from Silverleaf held the flag in the horde base and then died, giving them the cap.
What a coincidence. It ended 0-3 with one blatant flag hold for the horde.
I reported the guy but nothing will happen.
I’m not even a little bit shocked. When merc mode was first announced way back when a lot of us pointed out the potential for abuse.
Now that players are bored, and don’t fear any consequences it will get worse.
I would like to properly welcome you to the forums. I hope you enjoy your stay.
^^
The lulls between patches used to be attacking cities and auction houses to troll. Now you can just merc solo w/o getting a group together or traveling and troll the same players. I don’t have an actual scientific tally but it seems close to 50% of the randoms I’ve been in have had merc trolls.
There are no consequences for this behavior. Austyn was even bragging about how he’s doing nothing wrong with extremely colorful language.
THIS is the problem. Horde are allowed to troll or even sabotage Alliance BGs without any repercussions.
I can imagine for the most part mercs will initially “try”. Once the BG even slightly goes sideways the trolling ensues which makes a win even more difficult.
I don’t know of a way to rectify said trolling since merc mode is here to stay but I’d like to hear some ideas.
This Austyn guy was the one using the fish trick, and healing the players to prevent them from dying and get rid of the buff
Yes I think most of the alliance that play BGs knows this person. Days on end of fish feasts w/o any repercussions.
I just checked him out on Raider io, he’s kinda…
Let’s say poopy.
I’d organize AFK-vote-outs on him whenever you see him. Should be pretty easy if he’s as recognized as you say.
Can’t afk him out till the bg starts. The damage is already done though as lots of alliance players are fish. It’s kinda funny I’ll admit but it’s getting old.
