I’m a big believer in positive rather than negative representation. Showing a world without pointless hate does a lot more good than showing one where the hate gets ridiculed or defeated. It’s more comfortable by far for the people using it as an escapist fantasy, it avoids attracting crowds who want to identify with the haters, and it does a better job at influencing the overall culture positively.
Writing real-world bigotry into a big zany cartoon universe like Warcraft would be pointless at best and in actuality hella offensive toward no good purpose.
Lots of people in this thread are expressing concern over insults from both sides, so I’d just like to take a minute to set the record straight and say that if you’re homophobic, I hate you and you can go jump in a river.
I remember one extremely garbage RPer espoused this viewpoint so hard that he basically became a meme for it. It remains the single dumbest justification for any Blood Elf RPer to act like a trash person to non-cishet people.
I wanted Liadrin/Yrel to be a thing, but then Blizzard had to hit Yrel with the LOLVILLAIN bat
I mean they kind of are? The animations, the tone and the actions they take are more of a couple desperate to find each other with the whole “Yeah the General is betraying us at the same time the Zanchuli council is betraying us.” angle feeling more like an excuse for the whole expedition.
No joke I’m still waiting to see what actual diversity options in character creation costs us in the long run.
Another tier / season of “everyone wears the same armor if you’re in the same armor class. We’ll retint it I guess.” maybe. Maybe an underwhelming in-game “cutscene” instead of a cinematic.
