Dungeons and Raids are not new. They have existed in the game for a long time.
Every WoW expansion has always added something new, besides just “new dungeons, raids and rep factions”.
TBC - Flying, 10 man Dungeons, Arena’s, New Battleground EOTS - New Race Blood Elves and Eredar - Paladins and Shamans no cross faction playable
WOTLK - Wintergrasp WORLD PvP event - LFG Finder - Achievements - Heroic Raid Challenge Modes - New Class - Death Knight new arena modes new battlegrounds - Strand of the Ancients (deleted in BFA because it sucked because of the External Actor Dilemma)
Cataclysm sucked but they added worgen and goblins, completed revamped classic zones, rated battlegrounds, archaeology, flying mounts in azeroth zones
Pandaria also sucked and they added monk class, panda race, battle pets, challenge modes for dungeons, two new battlegrounds and a new arena
Now WoD is where we start to see the real shift towards maintenance mode - but we still got garrisons, character model updates, heirlooms, class specific perks, and Ashran BG
Legion tapers off - We got demon hunter, legendaries, artifact weapons, new honor leveling system, allied races
BFA we got… well we got… brutosaur mount, and then we didn’t… the heart of azeroth was just a carryover from legion
Shadowlands got Torghast, Covenants and Vault
With Dragonflight we got, Dragon Riding and playable Arrakoa Lizard 1 spec class
How does Dragonflight seem small? It has the same zones, same amount of dungeons, talent tree rework (that other expansions haven’t had in a while). Dragon riding, new crafting systems, new class/race, and some new models. I don’t really see how you can argue that it looks smaller than other new expansions. It looks about the same. Like or hate the changes is up to you, but I think it is factually inaccurate to say it is smaller than other expansions. That would be left to tell if they have less raid tiers over the course or something than other expansions.
Also wow is really far from maintenance mode. Say what you will about the number of players etc, it is still a long way from not being profitable to release new content. The only part of wow that is kind of maintenance mode deal is classic and other variations of the classic release (which they still work on, kind of).
This one is adding vertical content, dragon riding, a new race/class combo in a new format, more cross faction, new talent system and revamped profession system, along with account wide stuff.
As with every other expansion. Don’t forget a level cap increase! If that’s what you consider new content.
They stole ideas from addons that have existed for nearly 2 decades and decided to directly copy a lot of that into the ui itself, finally. Definitely not going to add anything new to the game, besides not having to update as many mods after every patch.
I forgot this one, this is actually a good one. I will admit that. But I need to see it first. It’s probably just going to be another way for boosters to monopolize casuals.
Nothing new. It’s typical expansion maintenance. I didn’t include it with any other expansion as a feature either.
Whoa. Now this is game breaking. I wonder how many interns that took.
Renown was added in Shadowlands and Rep was here in Classic.
This is another big one. I like this one. But this is a QOL update, not a “new feature”. We have been asking for this since Vanilla.
So it existed in WoD?
So it’s like a recolor of a mount or transmog, for a pvp system. They are just, bringing it back, again… Doesn’t feel new for some reason.
Every expansion before it. Didn’t list it on those expansions either except tbc, because shaman/paladin was HUGE.
5 zones, with each zone being a covenant zone for the respective dragon flights. I imagine you won’t be exploring every single zone fully unless you roll 5 characters and choose a different dragonflight each time. Just like covenants. (Ion already told Asmongold yesterday that the number one thing they are bringing from SL to DF is Covenants)
Plus, every expansion adds new zones. I didn’t list that as a feature for any expansion because by default that is an automatic expectation from any game, is to have new content to experience. I mean, really?
Oh… There it is. The level cap. You forgot to mention that there will be new innkeepers and a new type of food and drink to buy from the vendors as well. Should we include that as a new feature as well?
Maintenance mode version of all previous iterations.
1 race that can only be 1 class. That one class, can only be that one race. You can never be a Drakthyr of any other class besides evoker and you can never be any other race as an evoker besides a Drakthyr.
Yep lol. Just like every other expansion. But don’t forget, this expansion has less dungeons and raids than ANY other expansion will at release. only 4 new dungeons and 4 OLD dungeons will be added at launch.
This is in direct correlation to the difference between the expansions in Everquest 2 when Sony Online Entertainment owned it, versus the watered down, low budget, money grab expansions that Daybreak games put out, once SOE sold off the Everquest franchise, dissolved SOE Studios, and exited themselves from the entire PC Gaming industry.
Let’s chill for a second. Just because this expansion is devote of cool content outside of 4 M+ dungeons and a raid doesn’t mean the new class can’t be fun.
You will be able to progress all 4 “covenants” (if you can even call them that) at the same time via one Renown bar.
How do you know?
the prepatch already adds a new dungeon.
the expansion itself adds 8 new dungeons. (playable in normal and Heroic. maybe even M0)
Then there will be 8 “revamped” old dungeon. (playable in M0 and M+ over 2 seasons)
And how do you know about raids?
There will be one at the start just like every other expansion.
BC was kinda the exception
As far as the start of the expansion goes.
We have yet to get a confirmation if there will be other classes later in the content patches.
The new version of Uldaman is one of the 8… more realistically 4, since we’re only getting 4 “relevant” dungeons". Worst case scenario even the leveling dungeons and the M+ dungeons are the same and we literally never see the other dungeons other than taking a peek inside for dungeon weeklies/callings.
Blizzard said they MAY make changes… and given the types of changes they’ve made previously, that probably just means scooting mobs around slightly or completely removing mechanics, rather than making encounters more interesting based on modern kits.
