Holiday Mounts should be a guranteed drop

There are some people who can’t find value in anything unless it comes at the expense of others. Sadly, WoW is the MMO for them, not for everyone.

At this risk of sounding horribly condescending…this is one of those “you think you do but you don’t” situations (except for real). I lump this into the same group as all the people who want significantly higher gear drop rates and the ability to choose vault items. You would have a lot of fun for a couple weeks and then you would be bored to tears.

A huge problem I have with the modern iteration of Diablo 3 is that gear falls from the sky because drop rates are insanely high. Without exaggeration, in a couple of weeks you can pretty much get a set of perfect gear. It’s fun for a couple weeks and then I’m bored to tears because having collected everything is the most boring state to be in an RPG. That being said, insanely low drop rates don’t feel great either, but there should at least be some things in the game with low drop rates because it cheapens their value by making them commonplace.

I wonder if it’s a type of insecurity. Like what are they lacking if they want people to look on them in jealousy?

I could honestly see if it’s like a hard to get mount. Something you really have to earn. But people don’t do anything for this but login on alts and spam the dungeon. People don’t even have to be in the right spec to complete it.

Wrong I just happen to want the pink rocket because it looks silly and fun and is something I would use otherwise I wouldn’t bother farming it

I don’t understand the bored to tears once you get gear. Why get gear if you don’t play with the gear? The whole purpose of getting it is to play the game with it. So why would anyone quit once something drops. Go play the game!

Why not put Holiday mounts and other low drop rate mounts on the Black Market AH year long? They can still have their low drop rates but then people have the chance to get one off the Black Market.

It’s the same reason that once people get a full set of 252 gear now…they are often compelled to make an alt…because it’s the process of gaining strength that is the most fun, not having achieved it.

No one but the 1% who have hit the gold cap on multiple characters can afford things on the BMAH

Because you might as well say at that point that it doesn’t exist. Ask all those still waiting on the Brutosaur.

The most desirable is increase the drop rate to something reasonable. They could even add more rare stuff to holidays. So people have more to farm for. But don’t make it so difficult that people don’t see it drop in 10 years. Especially for something only around for two weeks out of the year.

Well then it’s all on them why they are bored, not Blizzard. And not people that want to see a holiday mount drop sometime in their lifetime.

Because that’s also terrible design that encourages token sales, instead of encouraging gameplay during the holiday itself.

I don’t believe in a 100% droprate. I believe in a low droprate (not a .03% chance) with either the mount being switched out every year or every other year and the old one put on a vendor for a boatload of currency… or giving the option of a low droprate and being able to buy it with an insane amount of currency.

It IS on blizzard because the core gameplay loop of an MMO rpg (for a huge number of people) is the process of improving their character and/or collecting things. Imagine how much worse the game would be if all the content was identical except everyone immediately started with every piece of gear and collectible in the game.

No it’s on players if they race through content and then ask what’s next. There’s never been an increase in drop rates that make everything drop right away. There have been better drop rates. But people race to level, get to endgame, get all the gear and ask what’s next. That is on them. Stop consuming as fast as it’s released and you won’t be bored.

Maybe you should understand the difference between something that gives you player power versus a cosmetic mount before delving into the condescending schtick.

but people are asking for things to be guaranteed drops…in many contexts…like that doom-whatever mount…it became a gauranteed drop because people whined about it. I’m just saying there’s a line where if the drop rates get too high then it’s on blizzard for making it too easy to blow through all the content.

No someone asked for a holiday mount to be guaranteed. You are the only one that brought up gear as some slippery slope, when that’s never happened.

The holiday mount will likely not be guaranteed anyway. What will likely happen is it’s drop rate will be increased to the rate of other holiday mounts. They should be adding more to the holiday mounts instead of making what’s left so rare that hardly anyone gets it.

to some there isn’t any difference. there are many players in which collecting mounts and cosmetics is the ONLY reason they continue playing…and for them…making transmogs and mounts guaranteed drop would mean running out of things to do very quickly. the principle remains the same whether it’s cosmetic or player power item.

Nah, I can afford things on the Black Market and I am no where near that.

That is the most desirable to you but not to everyone. I don’t have the mount I would rather see the drop rates remain unchanged. People can always farm gold while waiting for the next holiday. People may find gold farming to be easier to manage than waiting on good RNG.

I am a collector but also would play this game no matter what. Because I do a lot of stuff in the game. I’m not just raid logging.

We have now reached the point of the thread where people are making the slippery slope argument of if you make holiday mounts a guaranteed drop then all gear will be guaranteed.
