Alleriaâs circumstance was 100% completely different from ours and how she became entangled with the void. Trying to use that as a comparison is silly.
Seriously, I have a lowbie one I play with a friend since she abandoned the guild we had before (and did she have to choose a whole new server if she wanted to go ally?) And I want more void options. But I have a feeling there wonât be much so you donât end up with void elves having massively more options than other races.
We actually donât know what hair style and hair color options weâre getting. The teaser only showed a few things. Weâll know more when the content actually hits alpha. Thereâs very likely more coming than what was shown in the teaser. The announcement even says:
This is just a sneak peek at some of the many customization options coming
And especially if the Quelâdorei are joining the ranks. They would be in all but name a Quelâdorei still, following Alleria, and arguably have a more accepting culture now viewing the void as an ally.
Adding less voidy stuff to void elves doesnât remove the void stuff they have. You can still be as void as you want, how others want to customize their characters has no effect on you.
And this devoid of actual story context, in which case Void Elves remain all about the Void so far, so this is really not an issue.
Yeah. But I think theyâve decided to go with customization options rather than duplicating races?
Iâd prefer they got Paladins personally. Kind of important.
But Void Elves arenât High Elves. Theyâre Blood Elves.
But look at the other races put out by customization.
Wildhammer Dwarves arenât Bronzebeards.
Forest Trolls, Ice Trolls, etc. etc. Arenât Darkspear.
So itâs not just a High Elf problem.
Alleriaâs circumstances were completely different from Umbricâs original squad. The same very likely does not hold true for those Sinâdorei and Quelâdorei coming to Telogrus to study the void. Itâs far more likely they are learning the way Alleria did from Locus Walker. The NPCâs even gather around him indicating as much.
As far as you know. You canât actually suggest that the one time event the void elves were originally created in is always how it it will ever be. That makes zero sense, when itâs been shown that NPCs from the Sinâdorei and Quelâdorei are joining the Renâdorei. Ergo, the circumstances are once again completely different.
Why are people not equating the new Night Warrior night elf customization to this. That was supposedly a one time event that never really happens, and yet anyone can look like the night warrior now. By your logic, there shouldnât be level one night warriorâs running around Teldrassil, but there are!
My point is, not everything happens in the exact set of experiences we have been shown in game.
We see HEs in the rift already. We know current VEs are former BEs. And the remaining thing most wanted is story behind the customization, why canât these customizations be SC or some various HE groups under the banner of the Renâdorei. It would be lore story to officially and explicitly show these are the HEs youâve always wanted when you customize your VE to use these options.
Iâm not saying adding less voidy stuff is wrong, what iâm saying is wrong, is now that people have been given an inch theyâre taking that inch and stretching it like a fruit roll up.
Asking for void elf paladins or changing the story of the void elves so they can âbetter immerse themselvesâ as a high elf is absolutely bonkers.
Like, High elves were never even paladins until they became blood elves and enslaved a Naaru.
All iâm saying is, stop trying to hijack my race.
I think it would be a real concern that they wonât want to have the void elves have an excessively large amount of options compared to other ARs (or cores if they tried to satisfy both looks) so I think there may well be competition for what gets in.
I want MORE voidy stuff, give us more voidish cosmetics. Right now all we can have is tentacle hair and purple skin when we could get so much more voidy stuff. Void runes, physical appearance changes ect ect.
The fact that it seems Void Elves are getting such a broad array of options leads me to believe that the rest of the âfirst fourâ will get similar treatment for Shadowlands launch. Especially since the allied races we got in BfA proper had quite a bit more options than the âfirst fourâ and were of a higher quality IMO.
Blizzard may be giving the âfirst fourâ some extra attention precisely because of how shortchanged their were compared to the ones unlocked in BfA.
Paladins even being associated with the void is bonkers. Go walk into the cathedral as a renâdorei and youâll get your response just from the NPCS.
We donât know that for sure. We just saw a preview. There could be a bunch of new options of non-voidy hair and normal hair colors such as Blonde and Red.
Imagine a class that does everything a Paladin can do⌠but isnât called a Paladin⌠and sources its power from the Void rather than the Light.
Letâs call it a Void Knight.
Mechanically under the hood it is a Paladin, same exact spells but with different names and icons and visually those spells are the blue/black color of other void spells weâve seen in game and they do shadow damage instead of holy.
Would such an option be acceptable for Void Elves to have?
Itâs also a lot easier to reproduce. The ritual that changed the void elves is one way to that power. Alleriaâs path is another. High elf wayfarers are learning there.
Now we can see that second generation of void elves.
Indeed, so I do hope that all these new customizations get some lore nods; it doesnât have to be a dedicated questline, it can be either flavor text or mentioning it on questlines.
It can be as easy as alluding it to it during the Pre Patch Event with the NPCâs we see. Like, we are on the argent tournament grounds, and we see the Silver Covenant there with both High Elves and Void Elves. During quest text one mentions they have joined forces. Pretty much thatâs all we need as set up for now.
Same for pretty much other customization options, maybe it just has to be about adding some NPCâs on the main cities with flavor text.
I mean there are a lot of Void Elves that would love to be Void Knights, so you canât just say is âHE peopleâ asking of it. Iâm a HE folk and I am not asking for it. We are fine without paladins.
Whatever path the Void Elves follow as a race now, is up to Blizzard. No, adding normal skin tones doesnât take away from that, and talking about thalassian unity on the alliance is a matter that concerns both VE and HE.
Void Elves have so little lore that as much as anything new can feel like diluting the concept, itâs as much just adding complexity to it. Yet still, the VE leader looks more like a High Elf, VEâs are as much defined by their connection to the void as they are to their thalassian heritage.
So what lore path do you think Void Elves should follow? Become even more void? isolate themselves? rejoin with the rest of the thalassian exiles?
Perhaps, but thatâs more dependent into what overall aesthetic blizzard wants for VEâs moving forward and less about feedback. Doubt they will completely backtrack VE for HEâs when they have been historically indolent to the HE issue.
It all depends on where they go from here. This is sort of opening them up to have two opposing aesthetics in one race. So itâs one thing if they go all out with ARs and roll multiple races into them (although for a few that seems unlikely compared to the core race, why put new Tauren races, or Draenei ones into HMT or LFD when they can go on the core and work for more characters?) Then it wouldnât be out of the ordinary to have customizations for basically two races in one AR. But if they donât do too much with the other ARs it could end up with not much for either, or one type getting the lionâs share. Or just a simple âMost players went with the non void look, so weâll prioritize that.â
They arenât going to do a complete over haul of a classâs cosmetics just for one race. Blizzard has voiced their frustrations with doing that with how annoying green fire is when they create new lock abilities and updates to the spell models.
Iâll give you that it is a cool idea, it just isnât something I think blizzard would do.
