Because it defies logic and reason? That’s not how societies work. Splinter groups who don’t follow their king are splinter groups. Again, they don’t own the capital, they don’t control any of the high elven territories, they have no pretender to high elven rule. They aren’t high elves.

Uhm, they are the original high elves, how could they possible be appropriating the name? It’s the name they’ve had all along. They chose not to rename themselves to blood elves, just as they chose not to suck mana from living creatures in order to survive. They chose to remain with their allies in the humans, and in the case of quel’danil the wildhammer dwarves. Blood elves came second, not first, so high elves haven’t taken anything from them.

the alliance had to compel the high elves through ancient blood oath to join. the high elves, the group you persist in claiming are emblematic of the alliance, were the very last to join and the very first to depart as once the threat had passed they sought any pretext they could to return to their isolationism. admittedly gilneas followed them soon after, but in recent years gilneas has returned to the alliance. the high elves went all the way, over to the other side

Yes, that’s the point. The Holy Roman Empire wasn’t roman just because they used the name. A people are defined by their culture and history, not by a name. Saying the blood elves aren’t high elves because they changed their name is nonsensical. Likewise, a few elves who didn’t go through with the name change doesn’t make them any less/more of a high elf than a blood elf. It simply makes them traitors to their people, or at the very least mercenaries.

Yes, Chris say “blood elves are our high elves”, and then proceeds to say how blood elves evolved from high elves.

There you have it, the moment the blood elves and high elves turned into two different things. He does not goes into it, but we know there’s still high elves that didn’t take that path, didn’t rename themselves and remained in the Alliance , and thus are not covered in that speech. It’s amazing that you refuse to see the obvious.

High elves and blood elves are not the same thing. They share an origin, but their paths diverged ten years (in-lore time) ago.

Even Ion acknowledged it in his famous “blood elves are pretty much high elves”:

“Basicly, blood elves kind of are high elves. [they have] different eye color, different backstory , [in terms of] you know, their different relationship to magic , but that’s it”

There you have it, Ion saying high elves have a different culture. Ion’s entire comparison between blood elves and high elves is about appearance. “If you want to be fair skinned, tall, majestice elf”. If that’s the problem, transform them, damn it! But retain what makes them different, which is the backstory that he himself acknowledges.

Instead, Blizzard transformed blood elves into void elves. But we didn’t ask for blood elves, we asked for high elves. And void elves fundamentaly contradict that very same “different backstory” and “relationship to magic” that makes high elves unique.

I’m still moderately salty that they got rid of the concept that arcane magic is dangerous and corrupting in the newer lore. It was much more interesting than FEL BAD ARCANE GUD.

You’re reading too much into what he said. Ion also said, if you want to play a high elf, roll a blood elf. They’ve said that it wouldn’t make sense to have a high elven race because they have no capital, no unified group, and are essentially a splinter cell of peeved blood elves. They are essentially individuals driven by separate stories, which makes them great NPCs.

Ultimately they aren’t going to go in the game. Blizzard already made a decision to give you a compromise, and it’s your issue if you don’t want to play a void elf.

Personally I’m not. It was weird and out of place when you considered the good forces of Dalaran and the previous Guardians of Trisfal. I’ve always saw it has a neutral force that anyone could claim.

Who cares if someone posts “Looksie here Ion said Blood Elves = High Elves” or “look at what Metzen said confirming Blood Elves are High Elves”.

You pro-helfers should know the truth by now, should know what’s being misrepresented. If we’re doing this to ensure that newcomers don’t get the wrong idea I’m fairly sure the OP itself which is the first thing they’ll most likely see will clear things up long before post # 1047 points out the discrepancies in post # 593.

It’s not worth it, and it’s hard to keep seeing the thread slowly devolve back into that.

their political views differ. thats it. we have no evidence regarding differences in philosophy beyond pro high elf community head canoning them as nobler, or loyaler, or ‘positive-adjective here’-er. a different political viewpoint is not enough to differentiate a brand new race(as depicted in this threads concept art) which shouldn’t even be a point of debate, it’s simply self evident given blood elves and alliance high elves are the exact same people

About 30 years ago, my elf had blue eyes, after what happened in warcraft 3 has green eyes, but, I’m still the same person when I was high elf. The only thing I change is that now the horde are our allies.

It is assumed that all blood elves were (and are) high elves. None of the current characters was born as a blood elf, but rather a survivor.
