so blood elves are labelled as a core race by blizzard. they are an intrinsic, core part of the horde in a way the alliance high elves are not. the alliance high elves are a minor faction of NPCs
the blood elves are a playable horde race. when pros say âcore raceâ is meaningless, what they really mean is that it cannot be defined in the way you want to be defined. they seemingly want to create distance between the playable blood elves and the horde, to define them as NOT being a core part of the horde identity despite twelve years of membership (which is longer than they were active members of the Alliance you know) whilst at the same time trying to argue that a non playable NPC faction of alliance high elves is a core alliance race that needs to be made playable because they are a core alliance race

You might even call them an âallied raceâ.
âCore Raceâ is just the terminology used on the character creation screen. Itâs the button to take you back from the allied races. Thatâs all it is. No one is arguing that the blood elves wouldnât be a part of the horde.

blood elves are a core horde race because they are playable and the lore shows the vast majority of their race is horde. alliance high elves are not a core alliance race because they are not playable and the lore shows only a tiny remnant of them remain

yes, it would. as soon as there were playable alliance high elves, they would instantly have the capacity to define what being a high elf is at the expense of the blood elves. it is a perogative conferred by virtue of being playable. blood elves are high elves, they conform to the standard fantasy trope in almost every way except your point of complaint, their allegiance to the horde rather than the alliance. blood elves have the right to define what it is to be the high elf of the warcraft universe because that is what they are. in fact, since the end of TBC, they have been brought closer to that fantasy ideal rather than moved further away
the silver covenant are free to continue calling themselves high elves, but what a high elf is defined by the entire thalassian people. the silver covenant represents a dying, fading past with no future beyond a lot of half elves if we are to take elisande at her word. that past is a part of the blood elf heritage, and is something they carry with them. alliance players do not have the right to redefine that past in the present

High elves have been an Alliance core race since Warcraft 2. Lore shows there are thousands of High elves and just a bunch of void elves, but still guess who got to be a playable race?

they left the alliance completely at the conclusion of wc3
FOUR whole High Elves were added during the course of BFA out of the thousands of new alliance NPCs added

TBH Iâd be pretty pissed if High Elves got war paint when itâs a Blood Elf thing as well. Going on 7 expansions of existence in this game without it.
