Here is the LFG Addon in action! Much worse than you thought

And the same could be said in the reverse. If they allow this lfg addon how much more will they allow? A tool that fully mimics the group finder in retail? How far away from what Classic is supposed to represent is acceptable. And even that is up for debate because what Classic is supposed to represent is somewhat subjective other than a vague description provided by Blizzard.

Stop worrying.

Oh I don’t know, because thousands of devs have written addons since 2004 and you look silly?

You just said you aren’t worried about the add-on because the creator “promised” to change it. Sorry that doesn’t fill me with confidence.

K but what is this addon really doing? its allowing casual players to experience content that they may not be willing to see otherwise. Most hardcore players are going to have their specific group of people they play with, just like in retail. I see very little harm from this addon. For you people screaming “ITS A GAME BREAKING ADDON”, i just dont see it. Its an addon made for convenience and that convenience is targeted at people that are casual players.

I fear that the addon will split the community… or make the chat look like robot communication… but hey… its only fear and feeling not hard fact.

Then write your own.

How different would it be than a macro or Enter-Shift-Up?

This is an addon that takes away a social action. Considering Classic is being brought back on the premise of rebuilding a lost community, this kind of goes against that grain.
it would appear the anti-socials who pushed for retail to become a solo game want in on Classic.

The thing is, most of us joined guilds and made friends by the time we hit 40, sure, guilds come and go, but we used GUILDS to form groups and get stuff done, not an LFR channel OR addon. This is a fact. If you think pugging Scholo or Strath was a thing, you are horribly mistaken.

This addon enables a ninja looters to exploit players on a large scale toward raid gearing. If you think otherwise, you are sorely mistaken. I’m 100% against the use of this addon and I’m certainly hoping Blizzard feels the same way I do.

Neither does this one…

I was in one of the biggest guilds on Whisperwind, one of the most popular servers in the game, and sometimes you just can’t find a tank or someone with a key to UBRS. It happens.

You don’t need to be a hardcore raider to do 90% of the dungeons in vanilla. In fact, you don’t even need to be hardcore to do the raids. Many guilds are just for fun and aren’t as serious about having the perfect raid.

And in Vanilla casual players were forced to interact with the community to complete content they couldn’t solo. I’m not saying this addon to some degree doesn’t fulfill that requirement, it’s just the way it goes about doing it. It isn’t going to build meaningful relationships between players but will feel more how the Group finder in retail feels. I don’t think it’s game breaking unless everyone starts using it and as a result no longer uses chat channels to advertise groups but stay strictly within the addon for groups. Not unlike how group finder works in retail and how the lfg channel is a cesspool of political talk and trolling. And if the majority of players are using this as a means to form groups but avoiding the chat channels and strictly using addon to addon for groups, if you don’t have it you’ll have to get it or be at a severe disadvantage.

Let’s not scrape the bottom of the barrel add-ons and compare them to LFG mechanic. It’s apples and oranges.

Banning this one would be a good sign that other potentially gamebreaking add ons won’t make their way in the game.

So yeah, a slippery slope indeed.

I see what your saying and I can agre to a certain extent. However, this addon is not a requirement to download, nor do you have to use it. The “anti-socials” arent the problem. Truth is a lot of people that played classic hardcore 15 years ago don’t have that kind of time anymore. Im sure they’d love to experience the game, the raids, and other nonsense classic offered but alot changes in 15 years. I don’t have time for all that anymore. So for the casual crowd I dont see an issue. Its not an anti social issue… its a time issue. If i have 2 hours to play a game I’d like to spend as much of it as I could playing the game and not looking for group. This addon works great for that. This wont effect an real hardcore crowd. They are going to have they’re friends and guildies to do whatever they want to do… just like in classic

Casual players do fine in vanilla. In fact vanilla was more casual friendly because we didn’t have a glut of exclusion tools or achievements

you think dbm is a “bottom of the barrel addon”? dbm tells you what to do, when to do it, and how to do it on every raid encounter…

gonna post this in here too for you LFG add on defenders

i’ll time stamp for you to make it quicker
4:51 - auto invite
5:28 - a definite retail feature that slots you in a role despite being able to tank lower dungeons as different specs that can ruin actual vanilla aspects.
6:56 - People with the add on can make a group with out using the chat feature in vanilla at all.

It’s not a simple chat feature and supports automation which is something the author of the add on didn’t fully explain. I’m very tolerant towards people with Naive and optimistic attitudes. I’m not insulting you people who are in defense of this add on, but this is something that shouldn’t be allowed plain and simple. Stop defending it.

which totally eliminates the need to actually think or strategize.
