Help: Stop Account Deletion Process

On 12-29-2022, I was trying to submit a ticket regarding the Primal Bear Cub pet, and it never processed. As I was checking my support ticket history, I discovered there are currently 2 account deletion requests that were initiated for my account 1 month ago, and 2 weeks ago, they appear in the Active Tickets and the status for both is “Processing”. I did not initiate these requests called, “Remove my Battle.net Account and game data”. I put in an automated request to cancel the deletions and was unsuccessful. I put in a support ticket to cancel both account deletion requests. The in-game support tool says a 19-day response time. I added the Blizzard Mobile Authenticator to my account to prevent unauthorized access. I’m afraid by the time I get a response back my account will be gone, and the process could be irreversible. Please, someone from Blizzard give me a response and fix this. I want confirmation that both those account deletion requests are cancelled. Thanks.

I’m going to assume you used the system that only works if there’s a deletion currently being processed. If so, and it said that it was successful, then you should be good on that front.

I would be much more worried that someone was able to get into your account without your knowledge and initiate this process. The Support article also mentions that the request has to be made within 5 days of the deletion start. So it sounds like you got lucky with this one.

It’s good that you added an authenticator, but if the other person has enough info to delete the account, they can likely have the authenticator removed too.

Personally, I would suggest creating a new email account to use with your battle.net and nothing else. Make sure you use a service like g-mail (or something similar) that allows you to add an authenticator to your email too.

Here’s hoping that you don’t run into any further issues.

I put Microsoft Authenticator Face ID required for my e-mail to secure it.

Last night I made multiple attempts to submit the automated “Cancel a request to delete my Battle.net Account” and it did not work. This morning I tried again to submit the automated “Cancel a request to delete my Battle.net Account” and was successful on one attempt which briefly showed up in my support ticket history.

When I checked my tickets this afternoon, the automated ticket I submitted this morning to “Cancel a request to delete my Battle.net Account” was no longer displayed in the ticket history or archive. There’s no longer a record that I submitted an automated reversal of the deletion requests. The 2 deletion requests are still being processed.

I read over the New Forum Guide - Syntax and Features posted by Siyanati on 18 November that is pinned in the General Discussion. My Trust Level is Basic User so I am unable to post the screenshot links to show you my ticket history from last night, this morning, and how it appears this afternoon.

Here is a summary of the ticket timelines:

US89334777 This was the support ticket I submitted on 12-30-2022 at 8 AM using the automated tool under the category “Cancel a request to delete my Battle.net Account”. This support ticket was deleted for unknown reasons and does not appear in the history or archive.

US89327882 is the support ticket I submitted on 12-29-2022 around 9 PM to cancel the 2 account deletion requests after they were discovered. I request stoppage of ticket #'s US89005310 and US88217595. The category I submitted this under is “Account, App, & Shop, Not listed here”. The in-game tooltip says there’s a 19-day wait time for a response.

US89005310 is the ticket # from 2 weeks ago. This is the fraudulent request to “Remove my Battle.net Account and game data”. I am trying to stop this ticket from processing.

US88217595 is the ticket # from 1 month ago. This is the fraudulent request to “Remove my Battle.net Account and game data”. I am trying to stop this ticket from processing.

From what I can see, Lathrop, the issue was escalated. You should have received a response or should soon enough.

I really hope you’re investigating how someone has enough info and access to your account information to be able to submit and cancel tickets. Scan your computer of any malware.

I highly encourage you to make a new email account used solely for Blizzard. Change all of your passwords, and set up an Authenticator if you don’t already have one.

In the past, I’ve seen issues like this arise from a disgruntled ex-partner, spouse, or friend that had access at some point.

Hi Vrakthris,

Thanks for giving me an update. It’s 12:30 AM Central Time as I’m writing this reply. I have not received an update thru the online support ticket #US89327882 submitted on 12-29-2022. I haven’t seen any movement on the issue thus far, but I am thankful you told me there’s something going on behind the scenes. As a precaution until this is resolved, I moved all the gold and non-Soul Bound important mats into the Guild Banks and promoted my wife to Guild Leader.

Hi Cyntaria,

My personal data was compromised earlier this year and my identity was stolen. I’m still feeling the residual effects and getting things cleaned up. I’ve taken numerous steps to prevent this from happening in the future.

It sounds like you’re taking all of the necessary steps. Good luck to you and I hope you get this cleared up soon.

Thanks, I hope this gets resolved as well. It’s a stressful situation. My receding gray hairline went back another inch the last couple days. I’m recovering from Stage 4 cancer, chemo and radiation. Playing WoW improves my quality of life.

I have the same issue

Please don’t necro threads. This one is a year dead. Anything older than a week or two is considered a necro and isn’t kosher.

What issue is it that you have? Has the process been started? Has it been completed? Is it for a WoW account? Your entire Battle.net account? More information can only help us to help you.

The same thing is happening to me as of last night. I have an Authenticator, nobody but me was logged in and I checked the status of my ticket about not being able to post in the forums (which seems to have spontaneously resolved) and there was a separate ticket to delete my Battle.net account and game data. I have a theory as to what is happening but I’m afraid of sharing it here.

Does anyone know how to report a GM for misconduct? I’m having issues but I have all the screenshots saved of what was said.

I reviewed some of your tickets, Estali, so I understand what your theory may be, but I can say that it would be impossible. Not just unlikely or improbably, but the request can only come from the user logged into the site.

The ticket record saves everything that was said. If you wish to provide feedback on your interactions, you would need to fill out the survey that is available when your ticket is marked as resolved.

I am glad to hear that the issue preventing you from posting seems to have stopped. We’ve seen a few similar reports and so far we’re not sure what is causing it. It seems to resolve on it’s own after a while, but we still are forwarding those reports as best as we can so our web team can look into it.

I wish the GM I was fated to speak to shared that information with me instead of trolling me every exchange following the first one.

This guy was more interested in picking fights with me than coming to any resolution. He didn’t make any suggestions about perhaps reporting a bug or sharing what you have shared. All he was interested in was fighting with me.

And I certainly did not put in a request myself the timeline is oddly specific but thanks for your input.

He claimed that he was top-of-the-line when I asked to report him for his disrespectful communication, and I don’t believe he’s top of the totem pole as he described. Someone without the ability to keep the communication professional and direct shouldn’t have that kind of authority.

Just for clarification, the request was put in at 5:35 UTC on the 31st, which is 10:35 pm central. That team would have been out of the office at that time by 90+ minutes.

They basically would be, when it comes to your Forum Appeal, Estali. There really isn’t anyone else you could speak with to file a complaint. It is why I recommended using the Survey. Their supervisor would be able to review any associated interactions based on that survey.

I am filling out the survey right now and he told me he had no supervisor.

I don’t understand how someone is allowed to continue prodding a customer rather than sticking to the goal at hand, serving me one liners about how I was the one keeping the thread open and yeah I was because it wasn’t resolved yet, and he wasn’t helping me resolve it, or suggesting to report a bug or to tell me that it was a known issue. He didn’t say any of those things and it’s his job to do that because it’s not my job to know these things. I don’t pay money to get harassed by employees and that’s exactly what happened.

And I never once went to any part of the website to request my account be deleted like he is still insinuating after I closed the ticket. He must love having the last word in.

You may have misunderstood, Estali, but once you have tried all the troubleshooting there would be nothing that anyone could do accept exactly what he did, which was forward the information to our web team for investigation. No Game Master or Moderator would be able to fix an active bug for you. So the only option they have would be to tell you that and then close the ticket.

Which looking at these responses, appears he did.

That isn’t entirely true though. He provided possible troubleshooting steps in a couple of your replies. He also said in multiple replies that he forwarded the information to be looked into. He couldn’t have said it was a bug or a known issue.

It might not seem like a big deal, but calling something a Bug or Known Issue makes it official, which isn’t his call, nor is it my call or any other Game Master you might get. Only the folks on the web or QA teams can determine it is a Bug.

Was it reportedly working as intended? No, but until there is official word, it is simply an issue sent for or under investigation.

No, it doesn’t appear that he did. He clearly stated that it could not be initiated by a Game Master, that it could only be initiated by the user. That isn’t insinuating you made the request, but clarifying that it couldn’t be anyone on our end and only could be someone who had access to the account.

Your other ticket was also replied to and the other Game Master provided even more clarification. I’ll post that here:

When it comes to account deletion, because it is a permanent and irreversible process, this is not something that Game Masters have access to. Only you are able to delete your account, and only after going through a specific process. With the way the system works, if you happen to land on the starting page for account deletion for any reason, it will create a holding ticket of sorts. However, nothing will happen unless you continue the process.

Looking at your account, I can safely say that it is not scheduled for deletion. This is also why you’re getting an error when trying to cancel; there’s just nothing there to cancel.

Finally, the last word will almost always be the rep replying to the ticket. Outside of some very specific situations, all tickets must be answered. That is what he has been doing. Replying to you each and every time you reopened your ticket. There isn’t really anything else he could do.

I meant open a ticket to resolve the issue he refused to help me resolve. He did not show any interest in bringing the ticket to a close. He was writing back nasty one liners that kept angering me instead of offering any support. It had spontaneously resolved conveniently after finding the request to delete my battle net account and game data.

And if you read everything you would’ve seen that I did everything he told me to do and I told him as much. And he shouldn’t have been given me one liners to keep the conversation going on and on and on unnecessarily except for making me angry.
I could tell he was enjoying that. Unprofessional. I bet that he loved getting the last word in and you guys can just shut these forum threads down whenever you want to only pointing out points which confirmation bias dictates, rather than having an actual conversation which is impossible with Blizzard anymore. Of course you’re gonna protect them.

I’ll print out a picture of my browser history to show that I was never on the account deletion page until after seeing in my open tickets that there was a request put in and it wasn’t me and I already protected my account with the Authenticator. How bizarre.
