Heirloom Changes Discussion

they should put a gold drop rate buff on the heirlooms to get back the thousands of gold we pay for them just for the xp boost, that was the only reason people bought them and now they just want to remove it.

The blue post states that these set bonuses are a work in progress, I doubt Blizzard is watching the GD forum, but they can possibly change in the future with feedback.

They can’t even give us 4 good set bonuses, they will never come up with any more.

Voice of reason;

They can’t give stats unless they disable them for PVP. Same goes for movement speed.

Also, bonus gold would be abused unless they take away the option to turn off XP.

These are safe options that they dont have to worry about being exploited.

edit: I agree that these are not the most interesting buffs, but it makes sense.

Every expansion has required a new investment.

Blizz is convinced this punishes new players by having heirlooms. And yet collective punishment of veteran players with heirloom nerfs isn’t the answer either.

We are not anti new players to WoW. But Blizz has to start caring more about their veteran players after what happened with BFA.

I am probably in the minority thinking that the burst of damage on level up is cool. I actually think its kinda fun and funny - the image in my head is taking on a pack of wolves, killing one, dinging and wiping out the rest of the wolves, potentially triggering another ding.

but the rest of these are kinda hot garbage.

What if instead, on each slot, there’s a unique equip. for example:

  • Head: your loot range is increased by (CharacterLevel) yards
  • Cloak slot OnUse: teleports you to (Hearthstone Location). Does not share a cooldown with your hearthstone. Inactive after level 50.
  • Shoulder Equip: Increase your main stat by up to 6%, based on character level. The effect lessens as you approach max level
  • Mainhand: Increase your versatility by up to 6%, based on character level. (for 1h classes, this would be a 2-pc set bonus with the OH).The effect lessens as you approach max level
  • Rings: the proprosed 4-pc burst. Wearing two rings stacks the effect, much like corruption.
  • Trinkets: increase health by up to 6%, based on character level. The effect lessens as you approach max level

True, but you still got the value from that investment during that expansion.

Increased movement speed, especially on classes like Paladins, would be absolutely fantastic - and not break the game overly much.

The set bonus idea is fine, but the actual bonuses themselves leave a lot to be desired. The only one I kinda like is the out of combat regeneration one, though it entirely depends on the % increase from normal. I don’t really care much for the rested exp ones since, from what we see on beta, you can literally do 1-50 in a single day. So those two bonuses wouldn’t mean anything for a lot of people.

Like I said in my previous post…how would any of that be balanced in PVP?

I spent hundreds of thousands of gold on all the heirloom. I still don’t have 50 max level character so I was not done with them, These changes are useless. And are not with 50g let alone hundreds of thousands. I would like a refund.

The fourth set bonus reminds me of the level up in D3 far too much. Doesn’t belong in wow imo

If they introduce these heirlooms into Classic WoW they’d be pretty good, Op even. However this is retail. These bonus are pretty much fluff. The only one worth anything is the stat bonus which I’m sure it will be nerfed like the baseline stats were.

Bonus Xp will probably be eaten quickly even with the 60% reduction in use. As well as it incentives not playing a character.

With every class having a heal and many of them have an incredibly easy way to regain their resource the out of combat regeneration is right up there with vanilla troll racial regeneration.

And the stat buff for 2min? Why not just buff the items back to they were and maybe a slightly more? The buff feels gimmicky.

Disable set bonuses in PVP?

Agreed.

Leave diablo design in diablo. Doesn’t belong in WoW. :100:

While I enjoy the idea of heirlooms offering set bonuses instead of XP bonuses, these bonuses are underwhelming and really do not fit the spirit of Heirlooms.

The entire point of heirlooms was to make leveling faster and easier for those that had done it numerous times before and were willing to invest a pretty significant amount of gold or other resources to gain fast, convenient leveling bonuses.

Here is some specific feedback on the proposed set bonuses:

  • 2 Set: Rested XP consumption rate - Most people create a character and then level that character until it is done - they don’t leave that character sitting in an inn for a month to actually gain rested xp.
  • 3 Set: OOC regeneration - almost every single class in modern WoW has very little to no downtime while leveling, and food/water are always there to increase OOC regeneration. This serves absolutely no purpose in modern WoW.
  • 4 Set: Burst of Knowledge - the only suggested thing that actually fits the investment heirlooms represents - but it seems a bit too short to actually enjoy if you say - level up as you are completing a quest or finishing a dungeon (where the majority of level ups take place) as you won’t be immediately near enemies to take advantage of the initial explosion or the extension, and will effectively lose a massive portion of the bonuses as you pick up new quests (or leave and rejoin a new dungeon) and get yourself back to enemies.
  • 6 Set: As explained for the 2 Set - rested xp consumption is not very useful - further, having the 6 set be a duplicate of the 2 set is boring and does not match the investment it takes to have a full set of fully upgraded heirlooms.

Suggested Replacements:

  • 2 set - Rested XP consumption reduced by 50%.
  • 3 set - 10% OOC Movement speed.
  • 4 set - Burst of Knowledge - make the initial time period 5 minutes, and up to 10 minutes of extension.
  • 6 set - Flight Master’s Whistle available at all levels (or 10% movement speed increase - IC or OOC)

These suggestions are a much better fit for the spirit of heirlooms.

  • The rested XP consumption is still there for players that do leave alts in an inn for a while before leveling them.
  • The OOC movement speed just helps you get from place to place a bit faster, but does not allow you to abuse in combat mechanics or mob skips.
  • Burst of Knowledge now gives the player time to enjoy the buff if they level from quest turn in or dungeon completion (presumably the most usual ways someone “dings” due to the large XP bump they provide)
  • Flight Master’s Whistle - just a quick way for players to get around, and is a much better fit for the spirit of modern WoW.

In both Legion and BFA, the Flight Master’s Whistle was awarded after you took the time to run enough quests to reach a certain reputation with each faction and made it easier to get to the different world quests while still utilizing FPs and the gold sink they represent. Players that own a 6 set of heirlooms have likely completed the quest lines for the 1-120 leveling experience (soon to be 1-50) multiple times and having the same functionality at lower levels is both justified based on “current” content standards, and is a much better fit for the investment cost to obtain a 1-120 fully upgraded heirloom set (soon to be 1-50).

Again, I love the idea of set bonuses, but I hope you will reconsider the bonuses so they better fit the spirit of heirlooms.

While I actually think the 4 piece is pretty cool, especially if it does enough damage to 1 shot anything your currently fighting and trying to get that buff 100% uptime will give some spice to leveling. Though I think that buff should be something huge. Like 20% to crit, haste, mastery, vers, and move speed. That way your driven to not waste the buff turning in quests.

But my suggestions for the bonuses are…
2 piece: gives -50% rested exp consumption rate.
4 piece: increases exp rewarded from exploring by 500% and increases exp from rares and treasures by 100%
6: while out of combat, your considered rested and you generate rested exp from this source of rested much faster.(what do you guys think? 200% 500% 1000%?)

Instead of getting a flat buff to exp for everything. This encourages people to get out and play while passively giving you rested exp that lasts longer. It also encourages you to explore the world. Getting meaningful exp from just revealing all of your map while also making leveling from treasure and rare hunting more viable. I personally like the idea of trying to level from 1 to 50 without ever killing a mob. . Just from exploring and treasure hunting. Sort of like a pacifist challange.

These changes are not even close to making up for the lost XP bonus. Either refund us or make them super OP like they were pre nerf where we can 1-2 shot everything again. These current changes are unacceptable.

Imagine removing the XP bonuses because THEY say you level too fast only to then put XP bonuses back as rested xp bonus with the only change being time gating the crap out of it. Bravo

What about the fishing tournament ring that took forever to get? Is it now worthless.

There better be an option to refund all the gold we spent if this goes through seeing as these are not what we paid for when we made the purchases etc.
