You’re right on your history lesson and observations. As for HC version and how long it stays “Fresh” mostly I am talking about the economy of it, and how long it takes before its poisoned by RMT that will unfortunately turn up because its a big biz.
The life cycle of HC fresh may actually last longer because death is perma, and that will make people play a lot smarter, and the filter of death eliminates bad moves and risky behaviors… Similar to RL.
Only time well tell for certain what happens.
As for Mr. Jordan and his design philosophy of Vanilla, I think he nailed it. The problem crept in when they buffed gear beyond original design. These classes were never designed for +Healing stat, +Attack power Stat, or +Spell damage and Healing. Once you realize that you can see why things are such a mess not long after you hit level cap. South of Level cap the game actually plays really well on all classes.
The complaints by Zugz and derps is kinda moot, there really is no such thing as a hybrid tax, the real problem is the gear got too powerful. Break the power of the gear and suddenly the game is really good for all classes… Also Hunter vs say Mage or rogue as mentioned; this is a risk vs reward thing. If you’re alive you’re doing damage, if you’re dead you don’t do squat. You see it all the time in a lot of raids, dead melee / pure DPS but not typically dead hunters so his methodology is solid as usual.
Because it invalidates your run. I don’t know how you can’t understand this in a game that’s competitive.

How does it invalidate your run if you or the addon cant tell they cheated?
If the addon CAN tell they cheated then dont group with them, problem solved
But again, if it was implemented by blizzard like ironman there wont be cheating
Addon is crap, that’s why we have official hardcore now.
no it doesn’t, you are allowing yourself to believe this.
What do you get for completing HC? what tangible reward are you vying for besides personal achievement and minimal bragging rights?
WoW as a PVE centric game, is not inherently a competition, nor is HC currently. There is no need to be concerned with others who are bad actors or cheating the system.

Why would someone who didn’t want to follow the SSF rules actually even bother with it once we have an official server, but then bother to cheat? Just so they can have the additional hassle of turning on and off an add-on, for the sole purpose of being able to say they leveled as SSF? I have and it’s not really a huge achievement.
As for playing with cheaters, well if someone wants to cheat themselves why would I care? The only time I would probably even come into contact with them if I chose to follow the SSF rules (which I will not) would be in a dungeon run. Like everyone else I will be over leveled to the point of the instance being easy with little to no risk. So if someone cheated it will have little to no impact on me.
That said, if you wanted Blizzard to put in some limitations for people to twink, say limiting what level gear/enchants can go on, that would seem like a reasonable thing as grey weapons with the spellpower or healing enchants are kind of silly, however I expect with the average death being around 17, extreme effort to twink characters will be pretty minimal.

It might be nice to see the devs institute level requirements for using certain consumes / enchants.
For example…Crusader is basically a lvl 60 enchant.
I forget what level the mobs are that drop the enchant…but I know where they spawn etc and have farmed said enchant multiple times at 60.
You could prob farm it pre-60…but I never have.
Let’s say you put a level cap of between 49-55 in order to use a weapon that is imbued with the Crusader enchant…and that if you don’t meet the req…you can’t use an otherwise useable item that has the higher level req enchant.
Would it be perfect in prohibiting people from using an enchant to twink well outside what they’d normally have access to? No…but at least you won’t see behavior like people rolling around with crusader on a lvl 15-35 char trivializing content.
+15 Agi to 1 handers is another one.
It’s really an end game enchant that you get from reputation with furlogs…I doubt it’s designed to be used outside of end game, but it’s another potential twink enchant.
They could put level reqs on potions enchants and items - but ultimately I don’t think they will and I’ll tell you why.
There is a strong push against removing things / elements of game play that could be construed as fun.
I don’t personally see them as being conducive to what would be fun for me…BUT…the dev team is definitely leery about making changes that are too restrictive or could be portrayed as ‘anti-fun’.

Blizzard undoubtedly knows this as well.
It would explain why they went with the ruleset they did. Some people waiting for fresh have unsubbed.
Those players be like
Just go play on a SC server then, Kaybearz. Why does it matter to you why us HC/SSF want a server of our own?
If Ironman/SSF is not on the ruleset as well as death==delete, then it’s not really hardcore. It’s just softcore trying to pretend it’s hardcore.

If people are unable to follow rules they claim they want then I don’t think making dedicated servers to said ruleset is the best idea for blizzard.
Then go forth and be more hardcore than the others! Continue self-imposing rules the already self imposed rules and be the most hardcore!

I’d have 0 problem with them putting in some type of special title for people who do SSF.
As far as I’m concerned, the game should also mail you Doritos and Mt.Dew in-game though mail after you complete SSF grind to 60 with a note that says:
“YOUR TRIBUTE AWAITS CHAMPION”
