HC PvP Server PLEASE

It won’t matter, a few Rogues 7 levels ahead of the people walking into the Barrens will just destroy everyone.

There won’t be higher level characters, the first handful of Rogues and maybe Druids will ensure of that and eventually everyones going to quit because ganking sucks. Open world pvp is unbalanced and whoever gets the drop will win, not to mention that server balance is going to be a sh*tshow.

Outside of a handful of griefers, no critical mass of users actually wants HC PVP servers, which is why blizzard isn’t wasting their time making and testing a custom ruleset for a tiny fragment of the population.

100%, me and my friends would be leveling rogues at launch for the sole purpose to get ahead of the curve and sit there and gank the crap out of people. And 90% of the server would have the same thought. I’m sure it would be tons of fun for the 10% without stealth.

what are the complaints about the hardcore system? I have only heard positive feedback about it.

this is a cool idea, but the meta would be so bad on this type of server. everyone would play rogues and everyone would be ganking contested zones. There would be no real pvp.

A few things. First, what I’m not understanding is how is this different from what Horde could do? Second, surely these people will log off or miss someone eventually who can level up and kill them while they apparently stay in the Barrens forever griefing lowbies all day and night. Even if the server has a rogue/druid meta, people will be able to escape and level, then come back and counter gank.

This is a very far fetched scenario. First off, when the server is fresh most people will try and race to level cap to avoid being ganked by higher level players. It’s only after this that the most heinous ganking would happen and by then there would already be a relatively high number of people in higher level zones so they wouldn’t be locked down like you describe.

It’s likely that no stealth classes would have a shot in the beginning due to their leveling speed. Druids and rogues aren’t super slow granted, but the hunters, locks, and mages will be higher level and everyone can be ganked while low HP fighting mobs, even stealth classes. Seeing how it all plays out is precisely the exciting part. Just because you have a negative prediction doesn’t mean it would happen that way.

I said Barrens as an example, horde would be waiting in redridge or loch modan to do the same. Or would until the server turned into a 99% one faction one.

Non HC pvp fresh servers were unmitigated gank fests, this would be an absolute sh*tshow. Plus world pvp is whoever gets the drop, it is not strategy. It would be a stealth meta and it would be empty within the first months except for the handful of trolls.

If you don’t think there would be nolifers ganking people 24/7, you must not have played wow before. The ones racing would be ones doing the gatekeeping.

Everyone knows this, Blizzard knows this, that is why it isn’t ever happening.

I mean I would play with a group to grief for sure, but after a character 20+ died it would be too annoying to continue.

The meta would be leveling in a group, maybe with friends. What does not seem bad to me

You have mak’gora for pvp fanatics. I hope these world pvp pros aren’t cowards who can’t fight fair and square but the best at ambushing people in disadvantages.
These world pvp pros are cringe af.

The meta would be getting slaughtered by groups of rogues the second you walk into contested territory.

Thats all it would end up being is people ganking low levels cause they dont want to chance losing their own toon fighting an equal battle. If the history of wow has shown us anything is that people avoid fair pvp, whether it be server balance or wpvp in general.

A HC pvp server would be the fastest fresh server to die of any fresh server that has been or will be released.

I really hope they do make this server, I’m a huge fan of “I told you so.”

It’s a niche within a niche… too few would actually stay with it.

You would basically have to make PVP deaths “free”, same penalty as the regular game. A death = delete PVP game doesn’t fit how Classic was designed.

Keep in mind that Horde has a massive advantage here as it is totally possible to get into the mid 40s before entering a contested zone.

If I’m not mistaken Alliance kicked out of the cradle earlier and run out of grinding options in home territory sooner, not to mention most of the instances in the 20-45 range being in Horde territory. Alliance has Deadmines and Stockades, where Horde has Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns, Razorfen Keep, Shadowfang Keep, Scarlet Monastery, Razorfen Downs without leaving home territory.

So not only would it be extremely risky for Alliance to do instances in these level ranges in a PVP death = delete ruleset, the Horde would not have any PVP barrier to just getting really geared at every level range up until Zul’Farak and come into the contested zones at higher levels with more gear.

As a Warrior player, that is also the only way I could see myself even attempting HC PVP because Warriors are at a huge disadvantage in 1v1 PVP at low levels and the only hope you would really have is to have your 31 point talent, Berserker Stance, Intercept, Berserker Rage and of course be super geared.

There is definitely precedent for hardcore pvp in games alongside no pvp or no hardcore, diablo was this and it was an RPG and it took FOREVER to gear yourself out etc etc it isn’t a 1 to 1 but it IS a hardcore RPG with PVP. And no I’m not talking about the recent ones. The idea of hardcore is entirely about the challenge of survival and all the ways you can die while trying to level up. It makes you CARE about your actions. It is designed for you to restart over and over and over. It makes the replayability of the game off the charts, it eliminates stagnation. PVP is about increasing the dynamic interaction and response in the open world. It is not a flaw in the design that you can have an incredibly unfair experience where you have no chance of survival. Training wheels are off, guided tours are gone, it is more than just a themepark MMO its a sandbox. Battlegrounds and duels are not the same, I don’t like Nascar either you know exactly what is going to happen everything is predictable. That isn’t to detract from the skill of an even match, that is amazing and in the open world WHEN that happens it is a far superior and exciting experience. That is why so many people I know like PVP it’s more dynamic enjoyable and unpredictable. If you want to be a rogue and stealth around and try to gank people leveling do it! You are not immune to death, and it isn’t always 100% certain that if you jump someone they will die this isn’t tag there are numerous counters to fights. Open world PVP is just PVP you add in players and players can do anything why not just try it damn it sounds like fire to me.

My man… you are trying to compare Diablo to World of Warcraft, you got genres mixed up and they’re just too different for your comparison to work. Diablo 2 is also arguably Blizzard’s easiest game… leveling is not hard, there is no end-game and the entire process of grinding for gear requires no one but yourself and again isn’t difficult. PVP was never enforced when you could go private and up the difficulty to 8-players if you wanted.

Again I disagree with you. Diablo 2 is an aRPG WoW is an mmoRPG the key part of this being that they are both role playing games. A role playing game with progression and unlocking mechanics as a reward for how much time you put into the game. In Diablo 2 you can play hardcore, if you die the character is done. In World of Warcraft you can play hardcore if you die the character is done… If you want to join a PVP session in Diablo 2 you can select to join a PVP session, in World of Warcraft if you want to join a pvp session you can join a pvp server… You state that it is as easy as heck to level up in Diablo 2, but it actually takes longer to level to max in D2 than in WoW.

Please see Diablo 2 max level information below

Most estimate Well over 100 hours some even much higher.
So I think it would be safe to say that the range of time it takes to get to level 99 is somewhere very close to 120 hours…that’s about 5 days right?

that’s close enough to call it a draw? But if you want to split hairs, it looks like it’s actually easier to level in classic wow than it is in Diablo 2.

Now as to whether or not there is end game content is simply your perspective. There is a ton more information if you are interested in how much time can be invested into Diablo 2 without breaking through the end game possibilities, but that’s also not the point. You say that it isn’t difficult, but there are chances for drops in Diablo 2 and chances for drops in World of Warcraft, without referencing more sources most people tended to agree that raiding in world of warcraft classic is very easy, getting rare rune word drops in Diablo 2 can also be very easy.

The point isn’t that they are exactly the same it is that PVP and Hardcore one life gameplay has been done before in an RPG that has hundreds of hours invested, and it can be done while NOT forcing everyone to play PVP, but allowing those that want to to actually PVP as the game was designed without curtailing or removing features from the game. There was no difference whatsoever when it came to PVP whether or not you were on a hardcore character except that you could not do PVP with someone that was not part of your playstyle.

You also failed to address any of my other points and reiterated what I stated when I made the comparison, I said it isn’t a 1 to 1 these are not the same game it isn’t exact but it is an example of something that has worked in the past and can work again and its even a blizzard game!

Your argument that Diablo 2 was easier to level in is actually false and I didn’t even know that it was until I researched it as I’m assuming you can understand now as well. Everything you stated only reinforced that it could work if your conditions for letting pvp and hardcore happen are that not everyone has to pvp if they don’t want to, and that the time investment was GOOD for the risk in Diablo.

Again, TLDR it was easier to level in WOW than in Diablo. PVP for hardcore characters worked and didn’t force players that wanted a PVE experience to do it. PVP for hardcore characters existed within the full scope of the game without artificial instancing like a BG or simply a Duel.

A PVP server has been offered for every version of world of warcraft that has ever existed and it is the only reason many players play the game myself included. Faction wars are the stuff of legends. I love the idea of hardcore, and I would love to be able to enjoy PVP on a PVP server with that experience in mind, so would many others. All many of us are asking is that you give it a chance and let us enjoy the experience fully.

Disagree all you want bud.

If somehow this idiotic idea comes to fruition, I’ll be here for the “I told you so” when the server dies faster than a Mayfly.

At least try to justify your thought process other than repeating something you can’t possibly predict.

It’s a niche within a niche… what do I need to justify? It’s a dumb idea, long form leveling with PVP and one life?

Why is it a dumb idea. I actually want to hear your thoughts on this I want to understand the opposition to this idea from someone that clearly doesn’t think the same way that I do. Long form leveling with 1 life and PVP existed in an insanely popular game that took even longer to level up in than this game would, and you are only stating that you don’t like the idea you wouldn’t enjoy the gameplay that doesn’t make it stupid it just makes it something you don’t have to do. You can play on the PVE server with everyone else and enjoy the full game, why tear down the opportunity for PVP enjoyers to do the same?

There is nothing to expand on, I kept it simple as to why it’s dumb and if you haven’t picked up what I’m putting down, I don’t know what to tell you big dawg.

Long grindy leveling + one life + pvp = an almost non-existent player-base.

This isn’t Diablo or POE.
