I was gone for about 6 months, fomo brought me back. Leveled my DH up from 50 to 60 and beat the MT in fewer attempts than it took me in Legion.
For those struggling with healing I highly recommend Demonic Appetite, and to use Immolation Aura before you get surrounded by his Comet Storm so that when you double jump + Fel Rush out, you’ll shatter some of the Razor Ice with your Unbound Chaos talent and generate a large number of Soul Fragments to heal yourself off of. Some of the ones that didn’t break will be low enough that a Blade Dance or Eye Beam will finish them off for some extra fragments.
I used the Ravenous Seed trinket from fight boss of Emerald Nightmare. And you use Unbound chaos? I’ve been respeccing into Glaive Tempest for them
Yeah watch my video, should a few posts above in this thread, I simply stun them, Immo, Fel Rush, then Eye Beam. Whatever’s left I just Chaos Strike down. I don’t use Seed trinket, I did in earlier attempts but wasn’t anything short of helping. I just swapped to the Cyclotronic Blast, helped dish out an extra… what 22kk on the big dude?
Fascinating. When I looked at the damage it seemed even a 500% Fel rush did significantly less damage than GT.
Also do you know if that red card for the trinket is easy to acquire? I never played my DH in BFA so uncertain whether it’s going to be a difficult item to acquire
Edit: Just saw it requires Revered with Rustbolt. Yeah…not farming that rep on an alt LOL
The Cyclotronic Blast? its at a vendor i think once your … revered? You just buy it from the rustbolt vendor
As for Unbound Chaos, its better to Use UBC because you can control where that damage is going. Glaive Tempest you just drop it, and unless the adds are stunned? Aint gonna do much
This is wild. I’m literally coming to terms that I’m unable to do this challenge on Havoc because I lack the gear. Had a flawless run and ran out of room with him having 37% left. Got 4 add spawns and two metas in p2 and couldn’t kill. I’m floored they have made gear a factor in this. Absolutely gutted. I want to cry - I’ve put almost 10 hours into this damn challenge and have it down but can’t get the numbers to kill him. And I’m so broke from this being a dormant alt and repair bills that I can’t even afford more attempts soon. ugh
If you played your DH a fair bit in Legion, you may have a bunch of nethershards saved up. If you do, there’s a vendor next to the mage tower that will let you purchase dauntless gear with the shards. You can fish for sockets and/or target a gear slot you want to change. Added bonus is that it reduces your repair bill by a lot.
It’s a low-effort way to get a few pieces of tw gear that may help your efforts. I’m still stuck in p2 myself. The dps check is rough, but I don’t main DH and am probably not playing optimally.
Sounds like the exact problem I was having. If you read my earlier post about prioritizing stats on gear, that’s what turned the fight around for me.
Prioritize Haste and Versatility on EVERYTHING. Gem for Agi. Enchant for haste if you can.
What a game changer that was when I redid my gear for stat priorities. The adds in P2 were no longer an issue and I had to really be careful of going too far away when they spawned.
It was still a close fight but I was really seeing results.
I actually took your advice on this and I think all but two pieces are haste/Vers. My Mage tower stats were like 21% crit, 21% haste and 9% vers and 29% mastery. I use the Vers trinket from Antorus too so I know my vers constantly goes to about 17% throughout the fight. I don’t really have an issue with survivability anymore P1 since I kind of know when it’s going to be a failed run because he did something wonky, I’m debating trying to find a full crit/haste build for p2 if the nethershards gear is kind to me
You are a God damn godsend! I looked for videos on this strat and nothing produced. I kept failing P2 with like 20% left. Another DH watched me stream and said I did everything perfectly but for some reason was not producing the numbers. In my desperation I decided to try your strat of tanking him in mid. Killed him once I finally got that positioning correct. Thank you for this comment! I was literally at my wits end and ready to forfeit my 12 hours of work into this challenge.
For everyone else: crusader enchants makes P1 a joke. P2, if you don’t have the gear, USE THIS STRAT! I acquired the Seed trinket from first boss in Emerald Nightmare. Used all CDs on boss off cooldown until trinket had about 10sec left. Kept them on side, used trinket so adds would be forced to run through it. Slowed when they showed, started damage, stunned them in trinket pool, and finished with some minor CDs. When pools were closer to boss towards end I’d save eye beam so the beam hit boss too. This def saved the attempts since I won at end with no room left and darkness down. I would not have survived another 2 second so those eye beams into adds/boss made it work.
This fight is madness for a DH. I just did this not too long ago on my arms warrior and it was more of a matter of squeezing every last drop of dps. This however is nothing like it was back in the day. Yes the fight was crazy with the 1st phase being random in movement, (mostly due to the spazy nature of the DH player I am mind you) But we had much more leech back in the ye old days, the mirror image part didn’t nuke you in 2 ticks you could take your time somewhat on that phase by jumping image to image, recover some seconds of cd’s. And that’s not even mentioning that his frost bolts did not hit as hard back in the day, and now take you down in like 5-4 hits, opposed to 7-6.
I made it to phase 2 four times in about 40 attempts, and it was those blasted shadow adds that got me every time, they have too much health. And I could never take all 3 down before they made it to the pools.
This fight is far too much. I am hoping for a small nerf to either the frost bolt or shadows in phase 2. Because this fight does not need to be this hard to complete.
As for those who have managed to get the flying spell book. Grats. But I will never look at that mount with honor, but mere pity, for the time you spent on madding content and more sanity lost then a shadow priest who took a stroll in Ny’alotha without his Wrathion blanket.

I’m at this level of despair right now.
This version of the Xylem fight isn’t remotely close to what I remember in Legion MT. I’m hard-pinned at 89% in Phase 1 due to the overwhelming damage done by Frost Bolts.
This is disgusting.
It’s uncanny at how much the double Crusader enchant aids in this fight…
I went from frozen at 89% one instant, enchanted, and now I’m already pushing below 70% and pushing into Arcane Phase.
The passive healing from Crusader spotlights the horrific effect of squashing our self-healing. I’m beyond words.
I’m dying to the ice comet. Seems when it comes I try to double jump so I don’t hit the top. But by that time most of my hp is gone and a single frost bolt finishes me
Are you fel rushing when you double jump? Also, try to keep Xylem close to the middle iris so that when he teleports, he’s still in range of your interrupt, stun, or cage once you get out of the comet storm.
For survivability, night fae covenant set bonus is nice, fae guardian heals a lot and can proc a couple guardians at a time. Equip the set before zoning in and then when inside swap equipment set to normal mage tower gear.
Use Chaos Nova before you jump out of the Razor Ice and it will spawn tons of Soul Fragments.
The Chaos Nova trick is definitely part of the encounter. If you time your Chaos Nova cooldown for that part of the fight, you can re-engage at full health. It’s one of the few things that’ll keep you alive in that transition period.
If Chaos Nova isn’t up, I’ve also combined Immolation Aura and Glaive Tempest for mixed results. You’ll want to pop either/both before the ice storm though.
update. Crusader on two heirloom weapons makes phase 1 easy. Though will not stop the mirror phase from being at a random distance and hard to close the gap before the slow kicks in. Dying mostly to that. I have now more consistently reached phase 2 however those blasted adds will not die fast enough. either I’m bad at void placement or I don’t run far enough, and their health still seems a bit overturned. The lowest I got em was 38%. now I am just trying to figure out how to pull out of the darkest void of existence that extra 38% dps, while nukeing them adds before a wave 4 shows up and I run out of room. Even switching to better talents, though made a little difference, still is not enough.
This fight needs some adjustment or I need the secret to gearing at Time walking levels.
