I have music turned off for BGM…some songs have been good but most of it is bland and boring.
It seems like it’s more hit and miss lately. Before I’d say I liked just about every single zones music. I think it’s because we’re in a zone that really has nothing to do with old WoW. The music in SL just feels like generic fantasy music to me because it can’t be matched with anything I’m seeing in game.
When I’m in a Night Elf ruin in game the music matches that, you wonder what that ruin may have looked like before the fall of the Night Elves. imo.
I think WoW’s music is still great and even better. It is a different style from the bygone days, but not in a bad way. Every expansion has songs I enjoy and a handful of favorites I add to my playlist. In game music is always on.
If I had to choose I definitely prefer today’s stuff, the more active dynamic music from like Cataclysm onwards. There’s more strength to it and I like that. I don’t know about describing it as magical or nostalgic, but it’s just good music. A number of the newer songs in recent expansions are completely epic to me. Blizz has never failed in that department.
It’s totally ok to not feel it though! Music is such a subjective thing you’re going to different opinions on everyone you ask. Try not to mark it against the game, we just all have our own tastes.
Nothing will be a reminder of your first fun experiences as that music you heard at that time.
Same goes for other senses.
For example, when I do the very rare visit back to where I grew up there is a smell I cannot identify but because it’s there and I enjoyed my upbringing it brings back fond memories. Even though everything from then is nearly dead and gone, so much has changed I could hardly related, that smell and the related memories and emotions remain.
That will never go away for me; but also irreplaceable.
They have made a lot old tracks into generic area tracks. Which isn’t bad but you get a lot unique stuff. I have no doubt that the Revendreth music will be used in any royal/vampire/old feeling kingdom from now on.
There’s a few good tracks in Shadowlands. Have to say Revendreth and CN are lacking
Is it honeysuckle? If country music has taught me anything it’s that it’s honeysuckle.
Naw bro, everytime I go to Pandaria I enjoy every second of the music; their erhuist is frelling amazing.
Current music is fine. I love the male choir in Boralus. Nazmir is eerie, especially Bwonsamdi’s theme at his necropolis, staring down into the abyss. Zuldazar and especially the Battle of Dazaralor raid felt tribal and urgent, and I can still jam out to Eternal Palace.
As for the music of old, it was fine too, but I just do not get the massive *ardon so many people have for Grizzly Hills. Apparently the strings that soar over everything there come from something called a “nyckelharpa” which again is fine, but it’s just not my personal favorite motif in WoW music the way it seems to be for so many. I can’t attribute it to anything more than nostalgia really.
Also their next door neighbors. Azuremyst is still my favorite zone music in the game.
Sounds like you have nostalgia for the music when you first started playing? I can relate because I loved the music when I first started in BC and was like 15 or 16 years old
Ngl tho I really liked BFA’s music a lot
Oh I dunno, Maw of souls, legion Kara revamp, any of the Zandalar zones of BFA, and CN, especially CN, are all pretty baller
Anduins theme and Nightsong are freaking amazing tracks.
As much as I dispised BFA, Boralus music kicks butt.
Suramar, Argus, Tiragarde… Yeah sorry OP, WoW music still good.
The few areas I cannot flaw WoW in its current state is music and artwork.
Sure I wish they had more art teams for cosmetics, but what they do with the limited teams they do… absolutely stellar
I agree, WoW still makes great music.
I am just saying that I don’t seem to have the magical feeling with the music anymore. Old and new.
I really don’t get the love for Maldraxxus. It’s like if you took Plaguelands, but removed all the creeping dread, forlorn sadness, and sense of danger to leave only bleak grossness.
WoW music all kinda blends together for me. But it’s good for atmosphere so there’s that.
I never found it that amazing to begin with, honestly.
Maybe a couple tracks here and there stand out, but we don’t even have proper boss music. It’s just all… background music.
Final Fantasy’s music actually feels more dynamic, and their boss soundtracks are actually amazing.
I wish it was honeysuckle. It is more “mechanical” in nature - almost like the first time I smelled cola mixed with gas to make our delicious Coke products at a bar. Unnatural in nature but a smell I’ll never forget.
When Russell Brower left the game lost a music legend. He left some very big shoes to fill and although I think the game has still been above par music-wise, his absence is certainly felt.
