I am not playing HC at this time. I do understand there are differing rulesets that people have used to play in that format. The folks on Bloodsail Buccaneers (for the most part) appear to be using the rules popularized by a certain streamer that is being referred to as “Road to Ragnaros”. This ruleset is the one that has the death appeals and single dungeon runs. There are others including the group getting off the ground on Atiesh that do not use that ruleset and are trying to make play a bit more group-friendly.
The thread:
If you are interested in something different, I’d check them out.
To answer your question as a person from the outside looking in, some of the folks playing on Bloodsail are a bit too sensitive and insular about their play. I’ve played on BsB since the day it opened and if I want to roleplay I’ll thank others not to call me “rp f_____” or tell me to get off their server if I’m not HC or be abusive if I am using public channels to attempt to trade or answer questions or offer to group. That’s not all HC players for sure and I’m betting it’s not all HC players that agree with taking advantage of pathing glitches or what have you. The appeals do seem silly to me but those are the rules that they want to follow. It does seem inconsistent with what my idea of “hardcore” should be but that’s why I’m not playing with those rules. It sounds like you have been playing HC with those rules
but please correct me if I am mistaken.
Ultimately, it is the individual that is seeking validation. If someone else feels that what they are doing to get to the goal is fine and does not “tarnish” their achievement in anyway then I guess I feel that it’s okay for them to play pretend they way they wish. Because you’ve stated you like the HC idea (I do as well - it’s an interesting variant to the game) maybe consider a different community if the one on BsB isn’t working out for you. The folks heading to Atiesh sound awesome to me. Good luck to you, Experimentr. I know I didn’t really answer your question but I do feel the answer will vary by individual.
