Harassment

Oh make no mistake I am but I don’t think there are many reps left to be angry at in the first place when it comes to Blizz.

People that direct their anger at the reps (essentially Blizzard’s front end) are mostly wrong.

It’s like getting angry at a McDonald’s cashier that the prices on the menu changed.
I tend to have a bleeding heart for CS reps, because I’ve been one of them for 14 years and am still ongoing even if it is in a higher capacity role now.

Yes it is. It’s like getting angry at the nearest person stocking a shelf at Walmart when you can’t find your preferred color of hair dye.

Karen level stuff.

My disappointment lies at the development and corporate level. I even agree at this point that our local mods on the forums do their best and have been more lenient than normal lately.

Yeah, 100%.
To top that off as well, if you try to defend the developers or the CS team or whoever it is you’ll get called a Blizzard shill/accused of working for Blizzard.
I refuse to believe the development team has any kind of meaningful pull in the company in terms of what they’re told to do/are allowed to do. It’s the execs and the shareholders that dictate everything, and those lower on the totem pole are just left to figure out how to puzzle together the expectations of those execs/shareholders from the 3 different incomplete boxes of puzzle pieces they’re given to work with.

The garrison can be a great place to RP, too

Not really unless they started interfering with my play. I would be extremely boring to follow though since I toon hop a lot.

If they’re gonna follow me around, the least they can do is amuse my three hyperactive Draenei spawn.

It’s not housing, but that’s what I sort of use the inn and Mage tower for until we get actual houses.

Back in the day, I would get a response that lightened the mood, and at least made me feel better even when there was nothing they could do. Now I get the same 3 canned responses, that already include all of the steps I explained having tried, and on the 3rd one, they just resolve the ticket. There is a difference between cynicism and realism. Sadly, the world got soft about 10 years ago, and now everything is offensive.

Often the case. Fwiw you don’t strike me as a shill and while I’m certain my post history would draw up that word being used against people I try to avoid it now and think the majority of us are just nerds that love the game in our own ways.

Some of us are too critical, some of us are too forgiving, but we all have our weird reasons for those approaches and I don’t think either should be discounted.

100% Garrisons are instanced and depending on the Tier and layout may even have a tavern, or at the very least, a long table in the town hall with a fireplace.

What does taking offense have to do with anything? That just seems like grumpy old guy rambling to me…
The only reason templates exist is to keep a professional appearance and try to keep CS reps from writing checks the company can’t cash.
I’m not excusing the companies lack of empathy, but you’re lighting a fire under the wrong butt here.

The CS is a blizz employee and has to follow rules. Fact. However, they still have latitude for empathy. If Blizzard’s CS group no longer allows for empathy, then they are failing where they once succeeded. Do I blame Ed for not being more creative? Yeah. Instead of suggesting the current way sucks and needs to change, Ed just keeps collecting his check and clicking the appropriate canned response. Blizz may have made the change, but a good employee will at least put a pinch of neutral empathy into a canned reply. But this is neither here, nor there. But if it makes you feel better:

"Dear Tony J., Blizzard CS Director,

You might want to consider changing the limitations of your current model and allow your staff to have freedom to empathize, and put some life and character back into a once glorious customer service experience. It feels like no one cares, and since you run that whole department, maybe you can do something about it."

Better?

Blizzard most certainly takes harassment seriously. They have a whole write up on it to help folks who feel they are being harassed. There are quite a few tools at the disposal of players to mitigate it on their end, and to report it to Blizzard.

As others have said, put them on Ignore and never reply. If they circumvent Ignore, take note of that - name, server, chat channel, time stamp, nature of communication. Report for Ongoing Harassment via ticket.

To be clear though - this is NOT considered harassment. This is an open world MMO. Other players have every right to stand wherever they want, whenever they want. Silently standing there violates no rules.

They can not verbally harass you, they can’t bring a mob and disrupt your RP event. Those things would actually be against the rules.

Standing there though is not against the game rules. It is like the annoying sibling going “I AM NOT TOUCHING YOU!!” Except in this case the player is not speaking or communicating at all. Super annoying, but not considered harassment given they have the right to be there too.

You do not get to decide who can be in which areas of the game, and when. If you don’t like someone standing there, you need to move the event to an area that you control such as instanced content. Others have had some great suggestions for that.

If you would like a Blue opinion on the subject, use the pencil edit button on your first post. From the edit drop down menu change the forum from General Discussion to Customer Support. I am sure Vrak or someone can clarify for you just what “harassment” is and if standing there is punishable.

Speaking out in companies can cause and does lead to retaliation even if it doesn’t end up with a termination.

Once again… the standard pat answer: “Don’t ask for change, don’t rock the boat. Accept the status quo.”

And you wonder why people think this about you…

I don’t expect you to understand, you’re well into your late adult life and you’ve got nothing to lose because you have job security.

Now days “job security” is being a yes man to the company Gallywixes.

Those Dreadlords are sneaky.

I have job security cause I busted my backside building my company in 2004 and have made it my goal to continually grow. Before that, I worked for big names, and each of them took opinions. Never did anything with them, but they took opinions. It is not my job to sympathize with a company I have willingly supported for 19 years and spent more than $50k for self entertainment. But, it’s not a lot to ask to get quality customer service from any company. You said you were in food service. How many folks would come back willingly if you have a canned response to their concerns at the table? Anyway, we’re just gonna keep the status quo, and I am going to find another topic to chat in. Aside from folks opinions on this, their CS sucks, so I’ll just have to live with it.

OP: I am sorry we derailed your topic and I hope you take the “Instanced” options mention to have your RP. No one should have to tolerate harassment, or be ignored by the company who allows it.
