The Detox addon is powered by a machine learning AI model that provides live chat filtering capabilities so a user wouldn’t even receive the toxic message in the first place. It’s almost like Blizzard can learn a thing or two by improving their game by incorporating popular addons like Detox to help enforce an individual player’s safe space instead of basically ruining the social aspects of their game like getting banned for even trying to make an “edgy” joke that someone might perceive as toxic. The game is already very empty when it comes to communication in public chat, just wait until the effects of this new social contract become enforced. This games social aspect for communication will feel dead, especially for new players.

There is no report option for “did not help me”. There won’t be.

they will make it up in other report options.

gameplay sabotage
they can use this to try to ban players

I quoted the enforceable part of the social contract for you. The term “sabotage” is not in there.

so the new report feature form the ptr is a lie?

Well, at least we know what community council member the idea originally was to help Blizzard incorporate a new social contract in the game.

I’m just not sure the new social contract is going to do anything if Blizzard’s way of handling reports stays the same. From my own experience… unless someone is mass reported, nothing really happens. And their report system is auto across all of their games?
Want someone to get banned? Mass report. It’s an auto ban and they might look into it later.

While, yeah, I think the social contract is a good thing… and may cause people to be like “wow i need to behave or else” there needs to be a better system for handling reports, harassment, etc.

dont nitpick a part of the post to prove your point. The point was that nothing is going to change from now and then so this contract is pointless besides some pr points that they could earn by just uping enforcement and doing better as a company (like doing better for their employees)

all this does is cause a pointless headache for the start of 9.2.5 and will be forgotten about again till they need more pr points.

The social contract in WoW is an oxymoron. We have talking people who approve of cannibalism.

I see the OP is asking for impossibilities.

I have not watched his video nor have I played the PTR. I have only read the WoWhead article that others linked here.

No you don’t. It did not come from any of the CC folks. I have never recommended a social contract, or a push message about rules. Good try blaming someone though …

That said, I am a fan of it if they actually enforce the rules consistently for once. I also a fan of making sure folks know what those rules are - much like posting speed limits.

you should not have said this. in before the “well you might want to get knowledgable about the new report feature” posts.

to be fair I did not know about it either

The thing with Square is they are a Japanese company and a lot of our political trends just don’t apply with them. What I expect is asymmetrical enforcement like we see in this forum extended to in game, particularly when you take in context the little toy they had to distance themselves from. I’ll send you a picture over discord of something that got me temp banned a couple weeks ago and let you decide if this is a reasonable prediction or not.

That would be the adult thing to do.

Newsflash: the world isn’t safe. You’ll never make it safe. All your efforts only do one thing, and that is to make people weak and incapable of navigating a world that is dangerous and scary.

Your ilk are the problem with the world, NOT the solution.

Nah, I’m going to continue to make a stink about the rules and the tyrannical people who insist we need them to make us safe.

You offer nothing of value and should feel bad about it.

Lying sucks so I don’t do it. I would rather be honest that I had not seen that video. If there is something I missed then I am happy to review new information. In this case, I have watched the video up to the point he talks about a new report interface.

“Gameplay Sabotage” has specific categories:

  • AFK/Non- participation
  • Intentionally feeding
  • Blocking Team Progress

This appears aimed at BGs, raids, and dungeons where we could report people for being AFK, pulling a boss over and over, etc.

players are not mad about the terms of service thing
its what some players will abuse like assisting players

answering a question they have most of the time we was told to use wow head my self included was told to look it up. it was a lot better to look it up then having someone remember how and where.

this is the part some players will get ban happy in

Very interesting post. I think there are some good insights here. Though not specifically what I had in mind, it points to the idea that “game design matters” and that game design does influence behavior, attitude, and emotional experience.

As many here have missed the point, I want to underscore that I don’t think signing the contract or even enforcing rules against verbal slights are the main issue. Rather, my OP was an attempt to indicate none of that really matters if they don’t address their core game design ideas contributing to toxicity.

We can all debate what those core design ideas are, as you have done here, but we have to acknowledge Blizz has a large role to play here, admit it, and show us how they are going to improve things.

I’m saying all of this as a returning player of many, many years and to my welcome surprise thoroughly enjoying Shadowlands right now.

This is not a “hate on Blizzard” thread, but rather a “hey, if you want us to do better, then you need to acknowledge your role in all of that and do better as well. Let’s begin together!”

I think this sore of contrition and improvement would go a long way.

Exactly, when has putting this type of power in the players hands ever not been abused. :joy:
