What Blizz problem is, is that they try to re-invent the wheel on EVERY xpac. We lost everything from BFA (yes some loss was a good loss), but nonetheless, things are taken away that we worked for, or grinding for. Now we have shiny new stuff we will get, but will be gone on the next xpac.
They need to find a system and stick with it long term. We want toon progression. Not progression, then level squish.
I don’t know about this because while I didn’t play Legion–it seems to me they’re basically running expansions that are Legion clones with slight alterations.
When Blizz stopped reporting subscribers it allowed them to be unaccountable to themselves and quality was destined to decline.
It’s like Subway saying “We don’t care how many sandwiches we sell anymore, just how long our customers spend chewing them.” That’s not a recipe for success.
Character development and commitment to character are ruined by borrowed power systems. Not only Azerite, Anima, Flight, and Artifacts but the Horrific Visions and Torghast systems as well. I think I understand what they are trying to do, give the satisfying steady dopamine drip you get in the early stages of developing a new character, but on a more regular basis. The downside is that it highlights how temporary and meaningless your time invested and the grind actually is. Who wants to run a 2 hour raid for a chance at trivial +7 boots for the 4th week when Torghast drops 100% damage buffs like candy. Then without the borrowed power you feel like an empty shell of a character that you’ve spent years on.
We’ve all been here for over a decade, we all know that there is a gated time sink in the genre and it’s part of the reason we play. But this expansion it is palpable and honestly feels insulting. This is the second break I’ve taken since BC and I have 0 on the friends list.
Gamers are much more fickle than they have ever been…probably due to the 24 hour news cycle and all of the social media we are bathed in. People have the attention span of a gnat these days and jump around from thought to thought, game to game. When new content is released, they will be back…only to jump away again as the draught sets in.
All of this being said, Blizzard needs to up its content development game. For a game that charges a box price and monthly subscription and has a cash shop, there is no excuse for the slow pace of their development. Their reputation is not what it used to be. They used to get away with “it’s ready when it’s ready” but those days are gone after BFA, the initial Diablo debacle, their growing reputation for paying/treating their employees badly, etc. Surely they can develop content at a faster rate than this? I know the developers are amazing people and some of the most talented in the industry, it’s just the “suits” that have destroyed the company/game like they destroy everything on earth.
I agree and disagree at the same time.
Yes it’s impressive of those making the mods and can seem strange as to why the larger company doesn’t implement it.
However at the end of the day Blizzard basically has this idea of how they want the game to play, and some of these things which might seem cool to us just simply aren’t a goal of Blizzard’s.
Sure they could voice over every questline and dialogue option, but that basically means they have to do it for the everything both past, present, and future as it sets a standard.
It’s similar to how pokemon and animal crossing choose to do their dialect.
So sure they could do those things, but it costs time and resources, and as far as Blizzard is concerned it is probably like adding a microwave to a bicycle. Sure you could do it, sure some people might want it, but is it what they are going for? Probably not.
I’ve made a similar post in another thread but right now for me Shadowlands just feels so exhausting. Do some Torghast to get some soul ash for your next legendary or to upgrade your current one, fly and ride around for minutes to reach a single world quest, while trying to navigate the hellhole that is Revendreth or Bastion, which are also both filled with enemies who will dismount you, making the anti-daze-mount equipment nearly a requirement. After that you can jump into the Maw where you either walk around…or you spend even more hours in Torghast to unlock a mount for the Maw.
Everything in Shadowlands just feels like a drawn out slog…and it’s simply not fun to do. I look at my characters, see the potential long slog…and exit the game again.
that’s how a forum works.
people generally don’t sit and watch a thread and respond after every reply.
…and half of the posters would have had a sleep cycle during the duration of this thread.
and others would have forgotten which alts they posted with, and simply forgotten to return.
that won’t happen.
the people claiming they’re so terribly unhappy, aren’t unhappy about one thing.
most of them go out of their way to complain about how things have been declining since x amount of years ago, or since x expansion.
it’s just straight up drama.
nobody is holding these people hostage.
they never go anywhere, because the game is nowhere near as bad as they’re making out.
the forum has been like this since… forever.
people love drama.
I’m referring to people who a month or two ago were complaining aren’t posting anymore, at all. So people do leave. They just want to trash talk the game because their unhappy and air their grievances before they go. It’s a catharsis for them and makes them feel better they’ve “hurt” something that has caused them unhappiness.
Some yes, but not all. For some it’s one specific thing that finally made them say enough is enough. Now that one particular thing isn’t the end all that made them quit, just the final thing. And sure it’s drama, they’re angry and that’s how they chose to express their frustration. And this is an opinion but things have been declining. Not enough to make myself and many others swear off WoW for good, but I was subbed for less than half of BfA and some of that time I was subbed was devoted to Classic.
I completely agree with you on this. I’m fine with people voicing their opinions about how upset or frustrated they are by some of the decisions in WoW. But if you’re going to threaten to quit, then stand by it. Nothing speaks to Blizzard more than messing with their money. If people who yell to the heavens how awful WoW was actually quit (again, some actually do), Blizz might actually take notice and address some of those grievances they have. Or at the very least they could move on to other games and find some enjoyment that WoW no longer provides.
It is, the game should be more community focused with players striving to group up to complete quests. Rushing ruins the games and skips so much other expansions. Especially now.
It’s not half the player base, most players are done with this season and move on till the next one, which won’t be out till June, happen every expansion.
Youre right but when you first started (at least for me) playing the game from beginning to end was the best thing. Grouping up for quests that actually needed other players to help with. Old content should never become obsolete. It was the dumbing down of the systems and mechanics that makes it quicker and easier. The only fun is a few M+ Dungeons and Raiding. The M+ dungeons are only slightly fun if you have people who know what they are doing. And if you have a higher level key with a pug group, you may just pull out your hair if they just try to rush cause thats how other dungeons have conditioned them.
Rush to the end, cause thats what the key timer is about. This game is heading towards phone game territory real fast! I’ve actually played some RAID SHADOW LEGENDS and its basically becoming that.
You’re right. It’s 41% of the playerbase and people quit a game when there is no more content they’re happy with. The overall population of WoW has been dwindling and most of the returning players always return like you mention.
People who even ENTER into a Heroic Raid or do a key above a +5 are in the minority. Tiny minority actually.
First, I got to say I’m glad to see you are still here and posting (from the old forum carry over). However, that simply isn’t true. I quit in legion and came back at the end of BFA. I was told that things were different and all that stuff. The end of BFA was fun for me. I got to experience the new stuff and not be gated behind drawn out content. I can’t say how BFA was in the beginning but I did have fun for the last 4 months or so of it. I’m once again in the position to not renew my sub. I have one month left and I don’t see any changes that I would like so I’ll probably be gone until Blizz starts to care again. The game is not in a good spot and is simply not rewarding any more.
