I’m fine with half elves lorewise, as long as it’s made clear that they can’t have children. But as for a playable race, I think elves are done in WoW tbh. I would have preferred they make new core race elves but I think that’s not going to happen after Nightborne and Void Elves.
I love half elf threads. I always tell people, give me one elf and I’ll give you 2 half elves.

I’m fairly certain the options for elves are still out there, whether it be half-elves, san’layn or any other form of elf that there still may be out there. I don’t see why half-elves can’t reproduce, or at least wow’s half-elves, especially in the non canon lore it states it does. But, to each their own really 
. It really is just something I think would be kind of cool to see, but also am wanting to see the other races that don’t necessarily pertain to elves now.
Glad someone else feels the same way I do involving that one.

i cant believe the pro playable alliance high elf exiles community showed up here. its like showing up in a vulpera or sanlayn thread and hijacking it into another of their high elf fanfiction debates. and they wonder why their thread is constantly getting locked
half elves are a legit AR request. they are not already playable. it is not a request to make a core factions race neutral. please stop, its not helping your cause
back to half elves. personally i think they are too similar to high/blood elves and maybe even tread on human tropes as well and lorewise there are only a few. the only cool thing they would bring are alliance elf paladins. we are at peak elf choices imo

I mean, I don’t think no one states it has to be half-elf instead of half-human… In fact I don’t there’s a rule like that at all . It’s just something people have used to describe the halfbred race in any form of mmo or movie or show. I’m not some rule maker in the way of names .
It assumes they are half human and so half elf, is to dictate what makes up the other half. This of course depends on the speaker, as a high elf would surely state half human.

For the “Draenei variant”, I would like to add the Eredar, for the Horde! Let’s just say, like how the Valk’yr became…unemployed, when Arthas was ousted, that some of the Eredar, with the defeat of the Burning Legion, were also left unemployed!

I don’t think Half-Elf with Human rig is going to work. Elves are essentially ideal humans, using Human model, they’ll just become humans.
And storywise, if it is to explore the discrimination angle, how can you condemn the High Elves in the Alliance not liking their children with the humans, while in the Horde there just isn’t a single Half-Elf?
I voted Half-Elf in one of the polls because I believe they could pull it off，but can they really if ‘Human rig with long ears’ is throwing about? Can we examin what people want, why Night Elf didn’t work, and will Void Elf work?
There’s been how many years since WarCraft 3? and with memory fading, people are reverting to the collective unconsciousness, namely LOTR. Human, Dwarf, Elf，it’s an iron triangle. I’m not saying WarCraft lore is inferior to LOTR，it’s simply not with the same lasting power. And there are ill concepted lore, like good mages are supposed to use ice magic, yet liches use ice based magic too.
So why is the race combo classic？Human, strong/rough; Dwarf, short/more rough; Elf, thin/elegant. And they are friends, It’s like in a school class, not everyone can be pretty, but they do like their pretty, or secretly envy them. ‘I don’t want to be pretty, I’m special.’ That’s what the none-Belf horde players say to themselves, I imagine. That’s also what the Humans and Dwarves probably want to say to themselves. That’s right, pretty boys/girls make them special!
Why didn’t Night Elf work? Because they’re too different, they’re not from the same school even. Female Night Elves tower female Humans by half a body! The Night Elf culture is too exotic, too low——not even called city dweller; and too high——emeral dream, another dimension etc. deep stuff. Their location doesn’t help either, how many human/dwarf players level in Theramore, let alone northern Kalimdor?
So Night Elf missed the mark，is Void Elf going to hit it? I ask you, Can you imagine in your school class, yourself and your buddies: human/dwarf/void elf？If you ask me，too exotic.
When I see a High Elf in game, I feel the need to help them, they’re the underdogs comparing to the Blood Elf, and helping the weaker party is what we do, because we love conflict, just like that. And they’re the pretty face I wish could be in the Alliance.
They’re mannequins，they’re built to the like of the players. No shame in liking the model, and it’s unreasonable to call out people for it. But is that it? Is it the only standard of beauty, the masterpiece that can not be rivalled, and the best the game can offer?
If you know for sure you can’t do better, then why do it? When they eventually do it, I hope they aim for the best. Not the second best，or third.
I know it’s just RP but I am so glad to be an Elf, I like would never give it to a hume.
