LOL no.
There isn’t. Dungeons in that game are awful. Combat is awful. It’s just one big gogogogo free-for-all.
And “jumping puzzles.”
Just…no.

You could literally but the newest expansion and get the other for free.
Nobody got the expansions for free, we bought them.
I could never fully get into GW2.
That said, I really love its world quest and combat systems. Character actions always felt responsive, and quests that temporarily changed the landscape of zones made them actually feel impactful.

Spoken like someone who has not actually played the game.
Poor balance.
Few competitive contents.
Uninspiring story.
Low player base, high players leaving the game.
Financial problems.
The story is great.
What is poor about the balance specifically and is it something you would see in wow as well and any other mmo?
As for player base, no there isn’t a high amount of players leaving. It’s been steady and slowly climbing since it went ftp years ago.
Here’s the thing people don’t get about mmos, you don’t need a massive population for the game to be good. GW2 SWTOR, ESO, FFXIV prior to shadowbringers, all have mediumish population and have been found more than fine. Smaller population means more significant interactions between players, closer knit communities and reputations of players actually mattering.
Financial problems? Sorry but do you have their books to support this point?
The gear progression now is get legendary everything, then never have to worry about gear again. Legendaries allow you to change everything about the stats in a dropdown, so you don’t even need other sets for different builds. To get fully decked out, you’re looking at a very long endeavor.
The big draw for that game is the LW story, and the huge, open events. Being able to do huge group events, which are all pretty fun, while never worrying about being a burden, or being kept out is awesome. The fact that rewards are tied to participation is pretty smart too.

Love the meta events, always something going on.
The mount system in GW2 is one of the best in the MMO genre in my opinion.
Rather than just do what other MMOs have done, which is to have mounts serve as a way to get from point A to point B, the folks at ArenaNet went above and beyond to make each of the mounts have a purpose and their own unique style of movement. The mounts that are available in the game are:
Those were the mounts available with the Path of Fire expansion. But they didn’t just stop there, they added more with various patches.
And with the next expansion we know of at least two mounts that are being added.
Important note, all of these mounts are earned in-game. You do not purchase them, although there are many skins which change the visual appearance of the mounts (some drastically) and every single mount can have parts of it dyed to give it a unique look even if you’re using the default skin.
This sounds awesome! So unique and first time you can dye ur mounts?
One question tho are the mounts only usable in certain zones like the new expansions or can you use them anywhere?
The problem with GW2 is that it was built on a terrible engine. I’ve been a die hard GW fan since the day GW1 was released so I’m definitely not a hater.
I used to play guild wars for a while and then it became world of bagcraft. You can spend all day just sorting your bags…
Never really could get into it. Tried to. Nothing stuck out to me.
Yeah, and they have strike missions now, which are closer to public raids. Their biggest issue is goals are player created. You have to be an achievement hunter in order to get most rewards.
SPvP is how all MMORPGS should be doing organized PvP.
Only thing you take in there with you is your skill. Put up or shutup, none of this gear helps me be better nonsense.

that’s how every MMO should be, player driven goals.
Nah. It’s a nice niche, but MMOs like this would die out if the games were just like “ok, do what you want. We aren’t giving any direction.” There is a reason GW2 isn’t the top dog. There needs to be things drawing players to do them. I love the dungeons in GW2, but there is no reason for most people to do them, since all rewards are obtained in other modes, so they’re dead.
That game is a feast/famine when it comes to player activity. When people have very obvious goals, like the new LW story, there are far more people active than when the content is old. There’s a reason theme parks are more popular than sandbox MMOs.

Such a backwards way of thinking imo.
There’s no need to chase being the top dog, literally none. Make the product players want, they play or they don’t. That constant chase to be the base is why so many games fell and where WoW lost its way. Staying true to the core identity of your game is so much more important than trying to be the best. SWTOR is a GREAT example of this. Game still has a decent playerbase. Sure it isn’t the largest in size, but in content it’s fantastic and people playing it have a blast. You don’t see complaints about what the game is going on in the game like you do WoW. Which leads me to the most important thing in general for games, especially MMOs.
You’ll find that MMO players who are the happiest in whatever MMO it is they are playing are able to be happy because they accept the game for what it is and not what they want it to be. They’re not getting angry for a game not having ABC, they’re enjoying the game because it offers DEF.
People are still running dungeons, so we may have different definitions of dead which is fine.
As for player activity, I’m not sure when you last played, but the game has been incredibly active for the last couple of years and has been steadily growing for the last six months or so.
It doesn’t need to have millions of people playing the game, it doesn’t really need streamers playing or content creators talking about.
MMOs as a genre grew by word of mouth. We would go to our friends and be like “hey, have you played EQ, you should totally check it out!” and that’s how it really should be and what it is for games like SWTOR, GW2, ESO and FFXIV pre Shadorbringers.
Popularity =/= quality. This is something anyone working in any type of industry realizes. People flock to what is easiest and most accessible, it’s human nature. It’s why League triumphed over DOTA and how WoW triumphed over everything else when it launched. It was accessible to everyone, there were no barriers to entry. The quality, if we are truly being honest, wasn’t the greatest. Solid 7.5 for sure. WoW mostly riding on the success of the WC IP and its overall accessibility.
Yeah but the new expansion is releasing in FEB 2022 …
Story is great?? ok there’s no point to discuss, we just have too different opinion.
Played it for 2 weeks, got bored and uninstalled it. That was 9 years ago
NEVER AGAIN

We don’t have to agree lol.
This is not an either or thing.
I love the story, you don’t, simple as that lol.
