Guild Wars 2

No endgame.

And I have to disagree as hard as I can about the combat system.

Ick.

gw2 is one of my most played games…but it isn’t perfect. i have found that people either really love it or they really hate it. most people i have tried to get to play gw2 are in the latter crowd.

it has no trinity or vertical progression which is a huge turn off for many players.

that said, i love gw2, no other mmo out there does open world content better. i am really looking forward to the expansion for sure…to bad it’s a year away though. ugh.

If that’s the case I’ll have to check it out again.

I meant that the story had probably been further fractured since I had played it. I play a game first and foremost for the story and world. I don’t expect top tier writing from an mmo but I want a decent story. I liked the story, I loved how varied the world is, but when I got back from a job and had missed out on the major plot points leading into heart of thorns my desire to play disappeared.

If they’ve added it back in, I’m down to give it another go.

The story is all there and I’ve been loving it personally.
You’ll need to own the expansions of course, but you can pick up the story and continue whenever you like.

GW2: Out of transmog motes? Better buy some more from the cash shop.

If only they weren’t dirt easy to get naturally in the game.
You don’t need to buy anything in this game at all lol

Not to mention that once you’ve crafted (yup, they’re not drops) your end-game set, you can walk away from the game for 2yrs and still be able to jump right back in with the same gear.

It’s hugely alt friendly - If you do World vs World (server vs server, large scale PvP), Tomes of Knowledge drop like lollies. Each tome gives you one whole level. You can grind 60 tomes in a reset day easily - so no buying level boosts.

Fractals are amazing. Blizzard ripped off GW2’s Fractal system and renamed it Mythic Keystones. However, fractals tend to be much more challenging and more punishing.

There’s no such thing as the ‘Holy Trinity’ (Healer, Tank, DPS) in the game; however, you can full spec into those. I’ve seen a complete cloth wearer (Chronomancer) tank a raid before. Every class has several self-healing abilities to choose from.

Gem Store = Fashion Wars. It’s 98% cosmetics. The rest are harvesting tools and toys.

The supportive PvE (all PvP communities in any MMO are full of salty dogs) community is impressive. People will go out of their way to help you do a quest or resurrect you if you’ve fallen. - Everyone can resurrect someone by giving them a nice body rub.

Dynamic levelling would have to be GW2’s best feature. There’s the main story to follow, which are called ‘living stories’, and they have chapters to keep the lore going. But standard levelling isn’t your typical ‘Run to X’ ‘Kill 10 of XYZ’ ‘Return to Z for reward and xp’, nope. GW2 has dynamic levelling. You run through zones, unlocking waypoints, points of intere… They reward you with large chunks of XP just for uncovering the map. And participating in events, I.e. Protect that cart from point a to point b - here’s a large chunk of XP. And you’ll find 15+ people doing the same event, which leads to decent social interactions.

All in all, GW2 craps all over WoW.

There’s more endgame in GW2 than there is in WoW.

Raids, Fractals, WvW, sPvP rankings/Arenas, concentrating on maxing out your guild hall (I’ve seen some damn impressive ones that have created their own Mario Kart like tracks), JPs, Map Completion etc. Or tag up and help newbs navigate the zone and take down world bosses.

Jumping puzzles if you want your skill ups (which levels are useless without) are the primary issue I have with the game. The band-aid was to cash boost everything (which still won’t get you into any of the cool subclasses), but then once I had the roller-beetle I felt like I’d run out of things to do.

And let’s not forget “just die in that instance and wait 15 minutes for your AI team mates to clear it because it’s easier than trying to do it with all armor broken.”

This sounds like Trump promoting his own MMO.

The Sylvari and Asura are such good races.

Well, that’s why you group up with someone; I’m assuming you’re talking about a PoF living story scenario. Living Stories aren’t meant to be easy.

GW2 is my go-to game to be honest. If it wasn’t for my friends preferring WoW and the raids/dungeons I’d have switched over entirely to it years ago.

Truth be told, even without the Scrying Pool, there’s an NPC in Lion’s Arch who can give you a briefing on who your new party is and what roles they played, and from there you can jump into Living World S2 and beyond and that alone is worth it in my opinion.

I played through heart of thorns. Wasn’t much though, maybe 3-4 months before I finally stopped.

Ah well there’s plenty of story content for you to jump into now then. Living World S3, Path of Fire, LWS4 and the Icebrood Saga.

And obviously Canta coming next year in Februrary.

Gave it a shot a while back. Good combat but I can’t say it’s for me.

i followed around a commander/zerg in wvw and earned more than i will ever need in less than a week. there is also other ways to get them like map completions as well. like farming gold, buying gems with it, and then using them to buy whatever you need in the cash shop. this game isn’t like black desert where you have to buy stuff from the shop to be competitive: it’s all purely optional/cosmetic based.
