It’s pretty fun. Some of my guildmates hop to it when they get bored of WoW for a bit. I do like their mount system, it’s creative. The coming expansion certainly piqued my interest again, it looks good. Might have to check it out.
Never played GW2, but GW1 was my first “MMORPG” 16 years ago. That Pre-Searing Ascalon is still a magical place, thanks to Jeremy Soule.
GW2 was always a lot of fun. Those jumping puzzles though takes a slow deep breath
What? You mean you don’t like hauling a bomb through Gryphonrook Run to blow up the chest at the end, even though one hit causes the bomb to explode and you have to start all over again? XD
So was Maguuma Jungle, Crystal Desert, Cantha and the Realm of Torment!
Everywhere else lacked the Wonder in the above Regions!
Elona was generic, Kryta was generic, the Shiverpeaks were generic, the Ring of Fire Islands were generic and Eye of the North was generic!
Depends. I found that dual weild sword with the Cantha spirit and running with Charr spirit as off spec with ranged made for a TON of fun both in small scale PvP, WvW, and even other content.
Ranger as a 2h Sword and Bow is huge fun in WvW and goofing around, in general.
The flexibility each class had is amazing in most settings.
And the mastery system is just fantastic as well.
And mount? Best mount system in the MMO genre! Imagine needing specific mounts for specific instances (until you get your Griffon and/or Dragon).
And as all mounts (minus the dragon and griffon)are easily obtainable without some disgustingly onerous grind, you’re fine without the Griffon until you get your Dragon which the story will naturally lead you to anyway.
There are a couple of issues with the story telling I’ve had though. Specifically, when you go from being a talented and skilled adventurer to being THE COMMANDER after Claw Island and when they just kind of sweep the consequences of Aurene dying under the rug and remove any of those consequences from the story in five minutes.
Other than that though, it’s definitely my second (and in some cases, first) choice of game. If only I could be a Gnome and not Asura, I would leave WoW in a heart beat?
And as a side note, remember Blizzard’s excuse for not implenting the Dance Studio? That they would have to re-work the skeletons and whatnot?
GW2, through masteries, can award your characters things like new emotes AND dances. Which leads me to ask, why can’t Blizzard do that if Anet-a much smaller studio with a much smaller budget-can?
looks at current events in Blizzard
Oh, I guess Billy got drunk again and angrily groped the new intern after nerd raging at some random 10 year old in CoD.
I think back on how much liked the game. I loved my necromancer with his frost/vulnerability build where I could almost single handedly keep up 25 stacks myself with quick shroud phases. His mog was awesome, you could really have some fun with the sylvari themed/racial armor.
And then they removed scarlet briars assault on lions arch when I was out of state for work and all the introductions with your new guild. I stopped for a while after that, played some heart of thorns, but never got back into it because I felt I was missing a bunch of the story. I’m sure it’s only gotten worse since then.
Sylvari best race.
its not the games fault if your connecting with a poor isp
I just picked up GW2 a few days ago and so far it’s been really fun just casually playing and doing PvP. I’ve mostly been doing PvP as scaled up on equal footing with everyone else from level 3… which was pretty weird considering how I’m used to the horrible imbalance in WoW. It’s nice to know that a loss on my part is due to needing to increase skill, not someone having god knows how many ilvls higher than me.
I have not tried out any PvE yet but I’m going to give that a shot this weekend
They’ve actually started adding a lot of that content back into the game. The Eye of the North has been repurposed (won’t go into why because of story reasons) and the scrying pool is now allowing players to revisit Living World S1 content.
They even brought back the Twisted Marrionette as a permanent boss. You can’t fight her in the open world like you could before, but there are public and private instances of her fight which you can take part in.
I actually play gw2 pretty frequently and, like any game, it does have it’s issues BUT it is a lot of fun to play. Some of the reasons I have experienced people dissing gw2 (some justifiable, some misunderstandings):
-“There is no end game” : Unlike most mmos, gw2 doesn’t have a linear questing system. The closest you come to this is your main story quest, which unlocks periodically as you level and does send you around the map on a quest. Once you hit max level though, there is often a feeling of “now what” because the game does a bad job of leading you to the content. There are a lot of people that think there isn’t anything to do once you hit max level, but the reality is there is a TON of stuff to do, they just do a bad job of guiding players to the content. There are a number of videos out there from content creators that help direct new players to the end game content of their choosing.
-High skill floor, low skill ceiling : This is one of the bigger ones for wow players specifically, since the reverse is true for wow. Getting into gw2 is difficult, but once you get the hang of things, even the challenging content is a lot easier than the challenging content in wow. That being said, they just did their first live stream about the upcoming expansions new features, and adding challenge modes to strikes (basically mini small man raids) is finally coming to the game. Beyond that, challenge mode raiding and fractals (fractals = m+ with 100 tiers of difficulty) have been around for a while, but pugging raids isn’t as easy as wow makes it.
-“Pay to win”/cash shop : The mere existence of a cash shop always makes people assume a game is pay to win. Realistically though, the cash shop is predominantly just cosmetics and QOL items. An argument can be made that gen 1 legendary weapons being purchasable on the trading post can be considered pay to win, but honestly you don’t need legendary weapons to do most of what you want to do in the game. It isn’t until you get to high end content where those are beneficial, and even then they are more a convenience over ascended weapons (which can be earned for free through in-game achievements). Really they are just flashier weapons. All that being said, you can convert in game gold to gems to buy whatever you want.
-The free to play content isn’t great : The best parts about gw2, in my opinion, are all things locked behind purchasing the expansions. Elite specs, the Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire maps, mounts, etc. While the free version of the game is a great way to get a sense of the world and combat (the combat, by the way, is the best combat of any game out there, imo), it doesn’t give you even a glimpse at what the game truly has to offer as far as gameplay is concerned.
-“WvW is dead” : WvW or World vs World is a massive server vs server battlefield complete with siege and everything. Depending on when you play and what server you are on, wvw can seem dead at times, but there is usually always at least 1 commander tag (think raid leader) on the map you can join for some fun. The most active times for wvw are usually around server reset in the evening, and that’s when wvw is pumping (and insanely fun).
I’m sure there are more things that keep people from the game but at this point I am just fangirling over it, but yes I definitely suggest checking it out. Aside from the game actually being fun to play (yes, even open world), the players generally are a lot more mature and friendly as well which goes a long way towards the enjoyment factor for me.
Games gotten better actuallly
MMORPGs need to die.
Bring back Single Player CRPGs please.
I wanted a KOTOR 3, instead I got SWTOR.
I mean that’s pretty much what you find in every mmo though. The base games are always meh and the good stuff comes via expansions.
Which has an amazing story, cool world, and since it went ftp and a lot of the naysayers left, a pretty close knit community.
Still, always online requirement to play. And I hate that.
It’s 2021, the internet is fairly standard throughout the developed world.
Mounts are the main reason I never got into the game but now since they have mounts I might get into it again in ffxiv doesn’t work out. The real question is can you mount everywhere
But I hate how its become a requirement for all video games. And I hate how in the case of PC gaming, always online drm is starting to become more prevalent, even in non-mmo games or multiplayer games.
Can we just have games be offline for once?
And yeah the internet is fairly standard but what happens when the ISP goes down temporarily. I have plenty of times my ISP stopped working right and I could not connect to the internet
I mean, that sounds like you need a better ISP.
You can also play a lot of SP games offline, only some have online requirements.
We’ve gone digital in a lot of areas and a lot of that reqs access to the net for patching and updates.
Really a lost cause you got going there tbh.
