Guild bank missing items - what happened?

From a thought in another thread, here is a bit of speculation that may or may not be involved…

My main guild bank which has been affected has characters in it that are in my four “favorite” spots in my warband screen.

My bank alt character, whose guild bank does NOT appear to have been affected… is not, and never has been, one of my four favorites.

Possible connection?

" However, this bug in particular is shocking and inexcusable. The fact that Blizzard didn’t take immediate action to at least stop it happening and provide some detailed and sympathetic feedback ASAP suggests that something is extremely wrong with the way that CS and bug reports feed to developers (did it take days to be investigated at first? It should have taken hours), and something is equally extremely wrong with Blizzard’s communication to players."

I can add my name to the list of people that are having more items disappearing since initial discovery. Just went through a screenshot of when this thread started and checked today and i’m missing 2-3 stack of items per tab (awakened earth, rousing air and order, bruisweed, kingsblood, resonant crystal, another ornate weapon to name a few).

I do appreciate seeing Vrakthris’ comment in the other thread. I’m so tempted to fill some of my remix characters with bags and start storing all my items left, but i fear that’s going to complicate any type of item restoration, if they end up being able to restore what we had from around aug 14th.

To respond to Arandi (that I just saw you post while i was writing this  ), my 3 banks are in single character guilds and these characters do not show up in my 4 “favorite” spots. They are slot 5-6-7 and been in that order since the character login screen changed.

Edit: I said previously that one of my guildbanks has barely been touched. Just checked it now and it’s starting to severely leak. 10+ items per tab.

I just started screen shooting tabs as well a day ago, and similar experience, stack of primal fires disappeared, 250k gold gone.

Given that one blue response indicated that developers first stopped the problem from happening further, it would be interesting to know if anyone has (definitely and verifiably) seen it continue to happen in the past day or two?

yes, it’s been said many times. yesterday after the maintenance, another round of theft occurred. i had about 25 slots cleared after the maintenance… those 25 slots that had something just minutes before the maintenance. after the maintenance my gbank was 100% empty

Absolutely. I would like to add that people also don’t like feeling forgotten.

That’s useful information, and doesn’t seem to jibe with Blizzard’s remarks.

As of yesterday, our guild bank was half empty, missing a lot of things. Transmogs, pets, mounts. A lot of things we used for giveaways during holiday events.

I used a Remix character and pulled everything that was still there to store on that character for safe keeping. As I was pulling things, I was watching more disappear as I closed and opened the bank.

i have Altoholic and TSM. Altoholic alone keeps inventory of all items in bags, bank, guild, etc… but it does not record the name of pets in the guild bank (it does in other storages). instead, for the gbank, it only records ‘caged pet’. since my OCD keeps all identical pets next to each other, i can use TSM data (identifies each pet and count in guild bank) to re-map the exact items that were in my gbank.
i backup the WTF folder every night so i can check when items were there and when they went missing
i was able to identify each item that is ‘missing’ and which day it went ‘missing’

Yea, I haven’t been checking everyday. But for what I lost extra, I’m not fully sure when that happened. I think when this thread started and i saw the issue, i dont think i was super smart and screenshotted everything at that point, but i did have several. But today I did go through all 3 to have proper screenshots and will be checking from time to time to actually see whats going on with my items.

My third guildbank had all my gems, ore, engineer mats, leather and hide and initially, that one seemed to be nearly intact, whatever I lost was very small in comparison to my other 2. But when I was making updated screenshots, there’s around 10 items missing nearly every tab. I have a 4th guildbank that I haven’t been mentioning, but that one only holds pet cages and on my end (since I believe i’ve seen people say they lost pet cages), they have been intact and seem to still be intact (there were many holes originally since i was mid sorting during the warbank - moving things around stuff.

That guildbank is not really different from my others. 1 person in the guild, not transferred off original server, character just chilling in my alliance garrison. Though I doubt character location would impact anything. (other bank chars in stormwind (2) or in org(1)).

People mention that it could be related to warbanks, which, honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised (only for the fact of them being made a thing and last week was enabling the crossfaction side of guildbanks (though that’s something that doesn’t really affect me as a 1 person guild)). But warbanks seem to be okay now, I personally haven’t had any issues with items disappearing it in, but i have 4 tabs unlocked (2 are used to move things around and to store prepatch drops that i was dispatching to my new remix chars). I don’t know if placing things in the warbank could strangely overwrite things stored in a guild bank even if they are supposed to be completely different entities.

I do understand how complicated and massive this is. Warbanks and warband on its own affect the core definition of what account bound is and having a common space for all your characters, be it faction or realm. And I think it’s impressive and a welcome addition to the game, as I’m not an altoholic but i do touch many characters. But it affects things that were deeply rooted into the game (like achievements since wrath) and systems that were character specific (like reputation/renown). I honestly expected chaos, but not item deletion chaos

This really is the main issue with the minimalist updates.

Agreed, Guild banks are history in my opinion. I will never put anything of value in one again. Ever.

If they can just flip the proverbial switch and everything is back…fine, I didn’t need the items that badly during that period. But if hypothetically something happened to make the items lost, SIGNIFICANT compensation is going to be necessary. It would have to be a lot too, because a lot of people had significant value in the guild banks. Not always just gold value too, sometimes sentimental value which can’t be replaced. If that were to happen, I’m not sure instant gold cap on multiple characters would even be enough.

Hopefully it doesn’t come to that at all, they should have records of what we have, but still.

I don’t have the Warbank activated, but my guild bank was affected. Also, all guild members are mine and my husband’s alts on the same realm.

Oh well, it was a good theory. Someone said their bank wasn’t affected and they didn’t have the warbank activated.

Thanks for providing this input about not having warbank activated. Does you husband by chance have his activated? I am returning after a 9 month break have not activated warband or warbank and going to avoid touching the guild banks until this is sorted out and just mail items between all my toons. It’s very disappointing to say the least.

So to recap today: a “Blue” said the underlying issue with the disappearances was addressed and fixed. From multiple responses in the last hour AFTER the latest server shutdown, the underlying cause STILL isn’t fixed. Additionally, we have no ETA on when or if our items will be replaced. With the majority of players utilizing personal guild banks and TWiW EA starting tomorrow, this issue will spill over into TWiW. I was “fortunate” that I lost all 7 tabs all at once. I was able to pull the small amount of gold out of my guild bank before it too disappeared.

I was also lucky in the fact that when the guild bank first started having monetary issues (as in not being able to withdraw any gold on alts), i took my almost 3m gold out of my guild bank and only left about 10k for gear repairs. That was literally 10 days b4 all these disappearances. I had put it into my Warband bank, but withdrew the entire amount literally the day BEFORE patch. I had a bad feeling. I am so glad i trusted my instincts. I can only imagine not only losing over 3m in items, but almost 3m in actual currency…

No, he hasn’t played for over a year. So it’s really just me using the gbank. I don’t even use it with my alts (not anytime in the last few years), but they are guild members.

I am feeling as if this is at a minimum the end of guild banks, guilds will still exist but bankless, I hope items can be restored into warbanks so we can spend 20 million gold on tabs. Maybe this is blizz’s way of cleaning up twenty years worth of accumulated bytes that were not being used.
