Minimizing a catastrophic data loss as “it’s just pixels, it’s a stupid thing to be upset over” is only a small step removed from “only stupid people are upset about data loss/you are stupid for caring about the data lost”. Blizzard mishandled data that we’ve paid for, and isn’t telling us anything about the loss itself, whether it’s truly fixed to not happen again, and hasn’t said whether or not they’re done restoring what they felt like. Why even did you follow this thread from General, it’s not a bug you care about? Only pixels. Let us whine in peace.
There’s no point feeding the trolls. They have nothing of value to offer, they won’t acknowledge or address any valid points you make, they’ll just keep saying the issue is fixed get over it. Every comment they make is disingenuous and intended to be thinly veiled insults. Better to just ignore them and move on.
It’s interesting this thread exists. My personal bank was impacted hard and nothing to date has been returned. I am not sure how this issue had been “resolved” when 7 tabs of items are still missing with nothing ever appearing in my mailbox. Not just profession items, but items that you can no longer obtain in game any more. I have been putting tickets in for weeks, only to be told I can’t be helped. I am really hoping there is some kind of resolution that can be met.
Hi Zzyzxx. Welcome to “The Maw.” It’s kind of become a community of others suffering the “bug” and also suffering the “resolution.”
I’m very sorry that this happened to you.
I never said anyone was stupid. This is also not very catastrophic, if it was you would have seen a much bigger response from Blizzard.
Last day of my sub. I’ve been around enough to know that bugs in this game show up again and again, and almost every time they tweak an existing system something goes wrong. I saw someone recently posting after a race change they lost a reputation, and man I know I’d heard that before. There were issues with that since it was added.
I personally have had to rebuy Guild Pages/Heralds multiple times because they disappear. Players are losing the shirts off their backs. They can’t access old content. And you can be sure there will be more problems when they make more reputations account wide and change the personal banks.
Items in game are part of day to day gameplay. Each one represents time spent and many are useful in ongoing gameplay. Constantly wondering if something is going to disappear makes the entire experience of playing stressful and maddening. I want more than just items back.
I want some evidence that they are testing better, working to improve data integrity & backup systems and working on the underlying issues. I want to know that when things disappear (and they will) I won’t have to fight to get it restored, and that includes reputations and other data. We shouldn’t have to fight them to get them to do the right thing. I want public acknowledgement of this fiasco by someone in the company in the press and on social media.
Goodbye
We won’t see evidence because they no longer care. It has become maximizing profit and at any means necessary. The fact they think this is a sweep under the rug scenario proves it. I just wonder how many people are “patiently waiting” as we were told to do and don’t realize yet that blizz is done with the restoration process.
This is likely intentional to keep people on the hook paying sub fees. Probably why there has been no “we’re done doing restorations” post, to keep those people subbed and hoping.
I think most people who haven’t been hanging out in The Maw for awhile, and haven’t seen any information or video regarding this bug. When we see new people come to this thread (or are dumped here by Blizzard) they very much sound like we did in the beginning, wondering if the restoration is complete, when they will be notified, still wondering why nothing has been done about the tickets they’ve submitted, hoping that they will get their stuff back, etc. They are us (back in August or September or whenever we realized this had happened). Confused and angry but still hopeful, and maybe with some faith left that, Blizzard will eventually “do the right thing.”
Sarabande, confused yes. Angry, maybe, I mean they are just pixels. But hopeful is the word I am hanging onto. Years ago, a friend of mine got wiped out so completely, they did a roll back on her account, restoring her to full. But, I want to point out the sentence you used of “dumped here by Blizzard”. The GMs are telling us support is looking into this… Support is pushing out blue posts. So where do we turn? We used to be able to call Blizz, have someone look at our account in real time and speak with us. As for the Maw… if that’s where they tell me to go, then I will go. But, it’s all just code… they need only look at it and come up with a plan that doesn’t point the finger at someone else.
I will eventually be ok. The hard part is items that were in there that no longer exist in the world for me to recover on my own.
In my back and forth ticket responses, I asked how players are supposed to get their items back if they unsub. You can’t log in to characters over 20 and you can’t use the mailbox. Their response was that you’d have to stay subbed. When I asked how long I was supposed to remain subbed to get my items back that they lost, they didn’t answer my question and instead kept insisting the only way to check my mail was to sub. But if they won’t give an ETA on restorations (or announce they’re finished with them and nothing more is coming), they’re outright telling people to remain subbed and keep paying them, encouraging this false hope, with no plans to restore things. Disingenuous behavior tbh.
I hope you are right. I very much would like to not only get my stuff back but get my faith back in the game that I’ve played for about 18 years, and the company I used to trust with our data.
Let’s just say, the first report that I saw in the Bug reports (there was another thread that started all this) was in mid-August. They answered in late September after not a single word in the U.S. forums about this issue. People put in tickets and got different answers. There are at the very least, hundreds (probably thousands) who were affected by this.
Many of us here discovered the bug because we had our own storage guilds with vaults. Which means that with one or two people in the guild, you can clearly see when things that NO ONE TOOK OUT have disappeared. We have been somewhat able to track what we lost. They did a “partial restoration” on Sept. 20th? Whatever was the date of the FIRST (Blue) post on this thread, and as far as I know, people have not gotten anything back since. Wait, I may have heard that one person got some stuff back but not sure. And in my most affected guild, out of 7 tabs (each of which were betw. 100% to roughly about 75% full) I got 98 Large Brilliant Shards back. That’s it. And two other banks who had stuff missing each got a few partial-stacks of items back.
I also run an active guild, which has things go missing also. Not sure how much . . . somewhere betw. 40 to 60% I’d say (harder to track in an active guild where other people might be taking stuff out - especially since my BANK LOGS have NOT worked properly for about 8 or 9 months) and I will say I got NOTHING back for that. I check my mail everyday since I send myself stuff back and forth anyway.
You will see similar stories up and down this thread. A player took the time to make a series of videos regarding her own experience with this bug. I suggest watching the short one by Kurnmogh - it’s only less than 5 min. long, in her series on “The Great Blizzard Bank Heist.”
As for “dumping” people - when this thread was in the General Forums (they recently moved it into the Bug Report forums) they’d take posts from customer service or bug reports and move them INTO this very thread. Not sure if they are doing it now, but they certainly did.
Minimize however you like, but entire guild banks gone is a “tragic event”, and the nonresponse from Blizzard over their error is a “utter failure”.
They’re just trolls being contrarian tbh, just ignore them. I was talking to some people irl recently (one of them is a 60y/o lady who has never played a game in her LIFE) and even she was shocked. She didn’t believe they would just respond with an “oh sorry whoops” post and then do nothing about it other than a few meager (and insulting) “restorations”. Even she has more empathy about it, and she has absolutely no reason to care about some “meaningless pixels”
Looks like there may be more issues:
Today I just decided to check the bank and I find most of these pets are now ‘This was never available to players’ When I tried to move one to my bags - it just vanished.
I started this book last night. Fascinating stuff, couldn’t put it down for a few hours.
In Cymre Jone’s YouTube video “Day 13: Pirate Gastronomy Part 2 (+ 9th Crate)”, at about 0:55, she says, “Ordinarily I would have checked the guild bank to see what materials I had in there, but seeing most of us lost a lot of things that were in there I’m going to check the prices in the auction house.” https://youtu.be/EMMUKdrQuSQ?si=RiM60ByJmJrJOxgi
Not sure what’s more wild at this point, this whole thing transpiring or that someone has blatantly been allowed to concern troll the thread and people in it for the past two months.
I’ve expanded my ignore list so much just from this thread alone than in all the many years across the various iterations of these forums combined. It’s insane.
