Guild Bank Missing Items Bug -- Aug/Sept 2024

Soooo . . . wait, they moved this ENTIRE thread back into bug reports? I shouldn’t say BACK as it was never IN Bug Reports but in General to begin with. But the ORIGINAL thread (of which I consider THIS to be a continuation) was in the Bug Reports forum. Looks like it happened yesterday?

Is it so it gets less visibility or what? Or am I just being overly cynical?

This would be new, as I honestly never received any help here, when I did post about a bug. But we will see, the sub still lasts for some time, so I can always check if they finally started to help us.

Moving the general post to the bug forum can be both a way to hide the issue or allow people that are coming back or as it also got reported it happened in classic slightly? Regardless, this has got to be the longest bug chain of responses I’ve seen then, and like most bugs will be put here and never resolved.

I know on my hunter; the auto shot keeps disappearing when you have a load screen and I been reporting on that for 2-3 weeks and the original thread is over a month old in the bug forum. So, for me, it’s a way to hide a concerning post then address the issues.

Sorry Blizzard, but I am marking this expansion bug ridden and not a good purchase.

Yes, they want their catastrophe and embarrassment to disappear. Moving it out of the General forum will massively reduce eyes on it. The timing is key: since Blizzard Direct will undoubtably bring a lot of people back to the forums, and General probably gets the most traffic, they needed this “stain” to go elsewhere.

Now we are at 50 thousand views, September through November, and not a single Blizzard post to this forum other than the OP, despite thousands of questions players have asked about the guild bank missing items.

IF they didn’t completely lose our data with no back-ups (I mean, if they did, that’s REALLY troubling in a game where EVERYTHING is data . . .) they certainly seem to be doing a LOT to keep this out of people’s eyes. Maybe the people who move posts into this thread (and then move this whole thread) get paid WAAAY less than people who might have done manual restorations for us over time? I’m sure that’s the case but still taking the time to restore our stuff would have garnered a much more good-will from loyal customers - much more worth the time than shuffling posts around.

I mean, it’s apparently too low of a number for them to worry about, and yet too big to put effort into trying to get us our stuff back? I know it wouldn’t be quick or easy (and would require a bit of research) but if done over time, I’d think it would be doable.

And no, I’m not delusional enough to think they will give our stuff back at this point. I just won’t forget and won’t let this die.

Looks like we are again left to speculate because there is no communication as to why we were moved here. I’m not saying they owe us an explanation every time they do something, just that we’ve been waiting for WEEKS for something to happen, now something has happened and we don’t know what’s going on.

I don’t think they’re trying to bury it, because they did pin it. Maybe we’ve been moved because returning players are discovering holes in their guild banks and tickets are sending them to the bug forums?

I would agree that the number of effected could be low enough that they looked and said “X” number were affected, we feel like “X” number will leave due to it (really leave not pretend leave) and with the FOMO mount, we made up for that loss of revenue (plus lots more) so we are good.

There may be others out there who have been gone so long they don’t even realize stuff is missing or just shrug and move on.

The restore (if they have backups) is very possible but it for sure takes quite a bit of time/manpower and skills - something they are not willing to put into a resolution. The entire process of getting data base is based on backups.

If they don’t have backups - that is total incompetence and lack of integrity.
If their backups are corrupted - then they were not testing these, see #1
If they don’t know how to do the actual work, see #1

This seems to be the scenario behind Blizzard’s behavior? I do have to laugh at comments Brad Chan makes in the Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct video, “if something is broken, fix it; if something is wrong, make it right,” obviously that is not a motto many other Blizz employees take seriously or even care about…THANK-YOU Heather Longdale for showing us what really matters at Blizz!

I was wondering where this thread went. Interesting that it’s moved here.

Anyway: data loss sucks. I don’t expect to see further action from Blizz on this, they’ve made their priorities clear. That being said, data loss at this scale shouldn’t be forgotten or brushed off because “oh well, didn’t happen to me.” I guess this bug just goes on the list of talking points about quality & reliability of the product in question.

I feel even more disheartened now. I had SO many of the required items for today’s Secret quest. Now I have to go and farm this stuff all over again :-1:

Was watching one of my fav WOW streamers just now. People started talking about stuff they lost cause of the Guild Bank missing items bug. It is AMAZING what was lost and how Blizzard just glossed over it.

The OP doesn’t count as an apology. If you think it does, good for you; I think it’s not even within the realm of slightly being an apology.

Never received not one piece of item back. Not one in-game mail. I did not lose a few items, it was years of hoarding. Just an oops our bad, sorry, now buy this mount or some remakes/remasters of old content.

Maybe, maybe not.  I only ever visited GD because of the data loss issue, whereas I’ve spent a fair amount of time in Bug Report even before this glitch-ridden expansion.  :woman_shrugging:

I googled “Who is in charge of World of Warcraft”

I got:

Chris Metzen
The executive creative director for the Warcraft franchise. Metzen has been involved with the franchise since its inception, working on the original World of Warcraft and several of the Warcraft games.

Holly Longdale
The executive producer for World of Warcraft. Longdale oversees the development of the franchise, including the current expansion, Dragonflight, and Wrath of the Lich King Classic.

Ion Hazzikostas
The game director for World of Warcraft. Hazzikostas is leading the development of the game’s new expansion, The War Within. ]

OK… great,

Cool. Great. Awesome. Do ANY of these people even KNOW about the guild bank missing items?

I don’t think they do. I don’t think Blizzard wants them to know.

Is Blizzard still working on this at all?

I reported a bug a day or two after the issue occurred and was told it was being worked on, but still haven’t seen anything mailed to my GM character. 20 years of hoarding reagents from every trade profession are gone… 2 tabs completely gone, and the other tabs mostly gone. My guild bank was 7 tabs and had maybe 4 or 5 slots unused at the most. Many of my tailoring reagents, cloth and bolts, were full stacks.

How is it Blizzard feels it is at all acceptable to say sorry, nothing more we can do?
How is it Blizzard cannot restore the items? That makes no sense, you make the game…
That says to everyone you have no actual control over your own game and have no backups and don’t also don’t care about players time or money.
It used to be policy that player items were of highest importance. Is that not the case anymore?
How many players were affected by this bug? How about some transparency? Is it just not enough that you figure you can sweep it under the rug?

The communications, or should I say lack thereof on this bug have been completely abysmal. No updates for months, and then poorly worded and frankly very worrying updates. Are Holly, Ion or Chris aware of this issue? Maybe someone needs to let them know that affected players are not happy. Am surprised I haven’t seen virtually any mention of this by the Youtuber/Twitch communities…did they get their stuff back? Maybe we could get a real apology from someone in charge, instead of a community manager doing their best to share the very limited information they no doubt received.

Years back, Blizzard would sincerely apologize for issues and offer some form of peace offering such as game time, if the servers went down for any significant duration. Well I think nearly every WoW player and MMORPG player losing almost 20 years of hard fought items or reagents and then receiving virtually no explanation and no resolution is magnitudes worse. Most would feel this is inexcusable and should have been treated with the highest importance and sensitivity as well as some significant gesture offered! Losing time to servers being down when paying a subscription should be compensated… but losing all of the items people have spent literally hundreds or thousands of hours gathering and sorting, to receive nothing, is completely unfathomable and unconscionable…

You said in your WoW direct presentation if stuff is broken then you should fix that stuff… but that’s apparently a complete lie… cause by your own admission… you can’t fix it.

Do better Blizzard…improve your communications and give us our items back! Or do the ethical and responsible thing and compensate us for our time and effort lost…

How many players were affected… how many items were lost?
When will these recovered items supposedly be sent to GMs? Has it begun?
When will we receive an update to say everything has been sent?
When will the issue be closed?
When will we receive some form of proper apology?
When will we receive compensation for items lost?
What is still being done…if anything?

A seriously annoyed WoW Veteran…

Total /played = 1073days… 11hrs… and questioning whether to continue my subscription.

I have been waiting also - a full bank alt guild is still empty - 6 tabs. Fully loaded since 2009. Treasures… I have not received a single item back. I opened a ticket as well, and followed their directions - nothing.

I don’t think they’re doing anything about it. Just waiting for us to accept it.

Hehe ya, feels like ghosting and that is much worse than knowing the truth.

The waters of general discussion are swimming with trolls and apologists. Maybe not as much as the CS forums but its still pretty bad. Honestly they seem to believe the devs already restored most everything and that we’re just lying about things to try and cheat the system into riches or something.
