Lol… but need/greed lets you roll for both main spec and off spec at the same time for multiple drops. And by the last boss you pick need without much consequence at the end of the run.
I’ll probably get no loot off bosses - same as now - and bang the happy gong of whatever Vault equivalent we get.
I don’t mean to sound like a super bummer, but I’m a support main and used to both RNG and gear priority leaving me the least clothed by the end of the tier. It’s all whatever I just play the game!
Hear I am healing mythic plus and getting loot on my resto shaman. Raiding culture is toxic in that way. I can gear my dps spec while healing.
Plenty of people are just going to need a bunch of stuff on the last boss they need. If they don’t plan to go any further. Why wouldn’t it stop random people from hitting need for some pocket gold/enchants. Especially in places like lfr or random pugs in the lfg tool with people from all over servers you are bound not to see again.
Group loot has social consequences in maybe guild runs. But not so much in pugs. Saying don’t pug is a ridiculous take, when it’s just guilds asking for this.
I can guarantee no one in my group will do that. Because I have a steady raid group and don’t pug. If you can swing it, I’d highly recommend it. Much less stress and you can make some long-time friends out of it.
Except it’s not. Perhaps it’s not feasible for some, but don’t generalize and just say “it’s ridiculous!” And to be completely honest, I’d be 100% fine with them implementing a toggle to have Need/Greed or Personal loot to the beginning of runs. Everyone needs to agree on one or the other or you can’t enter the instance (or join the group if a group is already formed with rules selected). Compromise is good.
I already mentioned that guilds have social checks that discourage this behavior. And the guild leaders are the ones asking for this. So I hope it doesn’t touch pugs. The wording of the blue posts worry me.
I say it’s ridiculous because pugs are random strangers and don’t adhere to the same social bindings of guilds do. So it wouldn’t make sense to say don’t pug then. We already saw how blizzard dealt with numerous things. So it’s hard to have good faith in them not to just make this group loot baseline.
Even though in the past we had multiple looting options. Them being so stringent and only having one method is seen with personal loot. The blue posts suggest this is going live in season 1. It changes the whole social dynamic of wow. And how you build raid teams. You as a raid leader probably don’t want too much players of your own armor type or weapon type to get dibs on any of that stuff. It’s easier to get away with lower raid sizes. If this goes into mythic plus that will greatly discourage having say priests/mages/warlocks group together, or monks/rogues/druids/dhs etc. And get one odd double armor pair that gets less chances at armor. Personal loot is pretty good for pugs, removes the loot drama and promotes build diversity. Need/greed just makes you hate having folks that are the same as you adding another layer of rng and competition.
IMO all they need to do was add options. For the raid creator to set it to personal, master or group loot if they wanted Group Loot back so badly. I don’t recall anyone asking for the Group loot system back but to just re-add Master Loot as an option which makes sense imo. Add me to the not happy list.
How long does the roll for loot last? Better be at least 30 seconds if not a whole minute.
Anything less than 30 seconds and players with disabilities or just older/slower will have to just press Need and offer for trade afterwards if not required.
I wonder if an addon can be made to facilitate master looting with this scenario. Have one person with the addon set as ML, others as members of the raid. Members auto pass, ML auto needs/greeds to get the item. Addon communicates with the raid leader/master looter to let them know everyone is set to pass. Then DKP happens?
Oh joy. Yes, let’s bring back this mess. I enjoyed losing tanking trinkets to Rouges. People aren’t joking about the Hunter weapon meme. I remember hunters taking healer/caster weapons, Shamans taking agility staffs. Warriors and paladins taking int weapons, and everyone fighting over trinkets regardless if it was for them. Being a tank sucked.
To sneak in reduction of loot by giving unusable loot to groups.
To make everybody equally unhappy.
In classic, my low level mage joined a group for Ragefire Chasm. A staff dropped that would have been a big upgrade for her. No one else rolled on it. I rolled need, and of course got it. The party leader told me he should kick me because it would have been a bigger upgrade for the tank, who hadn’t rolled on it.
This change affirms my decision to stop raiding in Shadowlands. The mindset that allowed or is testing this system is so out of touch with how cutthroat and just plain mean the community is. I will be reading the forums in Dragonland expac when the drama happens that is for sure.
Players like player agency. Blizzard doesn’t. Remember when they first introduced the concept of covenants? At the time of introduction, players were told they would have no choice but to commit themselves to a covenant and be locked in it for the duration of the expansion, restricted by that irrevocable choice by spec and content type.
Do you remember how they described this? They said, “You players asked for player agency. This is player agency. We gave you what you asked for.”
