Nothing in the Grimoire has retconned Elune though…that’s what you’re still not grasping.
Especially considering the book is written from the perspective of one of the Brokers, so it’s not even a Word of God thing.

I’m so excited for this book! I pre-ordered it back at Blizzconline.
I thought: “They don’t seem sure.”
The Tear of Elune had effects with Ysera, and Tyrande, in Valsharah - OK, that makes sense with previous lore.
But it also is a Pillar of Creation handed from the Titanic Pantheon to the Keepers. So is it of Titanic origin? Did Elune gift the Titans a Tear? Or did they make her cry in order to extract a tear and use it for their ends?
Khadgar thinks Elune created Naaru. Velen has said he believes Elune is similar to Naaru. But Tyrande tells Velen she thinks her people would find that offensive, and she is the avatar of Elune. Xalatath calls her an upstart Goddess.
So there was a lot of mystery and perspective and guess work, but nothing concrete.
Yeah… yet. I’m just worried, like I was worried before.
Like I was worried that Covenants won’t be a meaningful choice, or like I was worried that they will ruin Uther, like I was and am worried that Sylvanas will… you know what I mean.
Given Blizzards recent…choices concerning certain story elements, I don’t blame you for worrying, but keep in mind, this Grimoire is NOT a Word of God lore book. It’s from the perspective of a single Broker.
If you really thought like that even in Legion, then you will welcome almost anything that writers will offer to you. So there’s not much to discuss btw you and me, while I’m agreeing with
^ this.
it is a bit disappointing now reading these blurbs, it’s like things we already know. I was hoping it had way more secrets. I was hoping for a Chronicle level lore book and not a Exploring Azeroth level “lore” book. Well, they already have my money.
We seem to be on opposite ends on a lot of discussions. (Human Pally and Blood Elf Warlock Posters disagreeing? Light forbid!)
But I wonder about your comment. Of course I can notice potential forks in the road being set up in case the writers wish to go different directions. Should I ignore them in favor of head canon? No thank you.
I do welcome the continuance of the story. If I didn’t, I would maybe play Classic or a different game entirely. I continue to buy Expansions and Play Time (thankfully mostly with in game gold). That in itself is a level of accepting the story that is told. It is their story to tell.
Oh no, how horrific. The being who’s only been shown to have strong relationships with entities of the Nature/Life Domain, is of the Life Cosmology herself? Who would have guessed?
I think it’s our story now. I wouldn’t be here discussing lore if I didn’t think like that.
I don’t care about what they want to say. I care about the world I’ve loved for over 5 years.
And that’s probably because why I didn’t buy the expansion, have been paying only one-month sub, occasionally, since 8.2. I’m now here after almost 5 months of break (cos I missed Anduin and the world) and I’m thinking recently like ‘why I paid for the game again, how stupid of me ’
They’ll probably reveal in the Gardens of Life expansion that she’s been able to do everything she has due to some First One relic she has, and it’ll be sacrificed to defeat the big bad.
Makes sense. There’s never really been any indication that she’s any more powerful than a Titan or Eternal One.
I don’t think we realize how powerful First Ones are. These guys literally CREATED the fabric of reality. Of course Elune wouldn’t be one.
There’s a lot of hints already. He likely managed to kill a First One based on datamined spells such as “Death of a Progenitor (First One).”
He saw the Maw was growing so he went to investigate. We already knew that.
Worthless musing, but if a Tear of Elune was created by purifying Tyrande, wouldn’t it stand to reason that she’s not the first one to recover from the Night Warrior condition, given the existence of the original?
We are no longer talking about strength. The status is important. A professional plowman is stronger than a minister, and a plowman is better versed in crop production. The minister can create conditions for the work of a plowman. Conditions for the appearance of a plowman. The minister can force the plowman to live the way the minister wants. And at the same time be unable to pick up the sand with a stick.
Being a member of a Pantheon is nothing to scoff at. Elune seems exceptionally powerful in that regard. Look at Tyrande.
Well that gets back to something I mentioned earlier: how did the Pantheon of Order get a Tear of Elune to own as a Pillar of Creation to hand to the Keepers? As you say, the origin of the tears is something to consider.
Who is to say the only way a Tear is made is through cleansing Night Warriors? Perhaps she has shed 96 tears.
That’s… not a good example for Elune being powerful.
Really? Elune just gave her a drop of power and Tyrande can barely handle it. Meanwhile, First Ones give us their power and we’re totally fine.
I looked. The Horde was not destroyed ten minutes after the completion of the ritual. She didn’t even kill Nathanos.
A stupid idea just came up. The Night Warrior does not grant any buffs. The Night Warrior “optimizes” your resources so that you are the most destructive.
The title is important.
Its so much funny to see people being in a meltdown just because their head canon doesn’t happen…
Adding information on thing we didn’t knew =/= retcon…
