As a hispanic I personally wouldn’t want to be hired based on my ethnicity. I want to be hired based on my qualifications, whatever happened to the best person gets the job based on performance and qualifications?
Only other western countries such as NZ, Aus, UK, Canada, and some of the other European countries (predominately white/English speaking countries) put up with this nonsense. Because it is pushed through politics by people who have foreign interests and don’t truly have the peoples best interests at heart.
They should just focus on finding the person who is the best at what they do and nothing else should matter. If all the best-for-the-job people end up being the same race / gender / religion / whatever, then who cares, they have the people who will make the game the best it can be.
We have a nice word for that
The definition is usually taken to include Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States in a grouping of developed countries called the core Anglosphere. This term can also encompass the Republic of Ireland and less frequently Malta and the Commonwealth Caribbean countries such as Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Ah awesome thanks dude, I was struggling to describe that aha
This whole thing makes me sick.
We’re all just people wish we didn’t need these weird statistical diagrams tacked on to every aspect of life.
Obviously I understand why, it just… is so sad.
People that care about this are just a bunch a racists and sexists.
I am no extreme feminist or anything, but not long ago I had an epiphany, that the idea that gender quotas somehow violate meritocracy is actually based on fallacies.
The fact is, unless you going to put a chip in everyone’s brain to monitor their thoughts, you are always going to get managers that hire girls that are pretty and whatnot,
You see the fact is we might be living in this fantasy world that recruitment without gender quotas is meritocratic, when in reality it’s anything but…and by the way, what is a clear concise definition of meritocracy?
Is it “doing a job well”? In reality, it doesn’t matter if you are talking political recruitment, or working for a business, my observation has been time and time again, you apply for a job you get an interview, they already know you can do the freaking job, the real thing an employer is trying to find out how you as a person are going to fit into their company and culture, to see how your individual personality is going to be a good fit.
This seems logical enough, everyone wants a good productive working environment where everyone gets along and has a few laughs during lunch breaks or whatever else.
The point though is that the very nature of the recruiting process is never fair or competitive anyway, I mean let’s be honest if you had a choice would you choose to hire someone that’s got a decent sense of humor that gives you a smile during lunch, or someone who is seriously dull, not a bad person or anything but just no humor, or if they do their jokes are so lame they leave you shaking your head,
Technically both candidates are equally capable of the job, perhaps the dull boring person does the job twice as hard and even better. But let’s be honest, if it were up to you, you would pick the one that does the job okay but makes everyone smile…
The reality is that the world was never a fair equal place in the first place, even those that have striven so hard for equality have accepted that we are all equal but some are more equal then others, and that’s just the reality of the situation.
There is nothing we can do to change this, but I think realistically a man hired for every woman should actually not be feared by men but embraced, as quotas make sure that no gender will have too much power over the other and everything in our society will be kept in perfect balance, if I was extreme feminist I would say let the women take over all traditional male industries etc.
Which btw, anyone that’s been paying attention would know that this gaming space has been traditionally a boys club, but now its more acceptable for women gamers to even exist, rather then remain hidden in the shadows, I think it’s VERY important in this particular industry for there to be some kind of quota in place,
As we need equal representation of male/female to ensure that a lot of good women playing the game aren’t feeling harassed and that their voices are being heard, and that someone has their back and after the scandal I heard from earlier this year where a poor woman had her nudes spread around the office and whatnot, that kind of behavior we need to send a clear message that that’s not acceptable to do that a girl
You are correct, if you have all college educated people you could benefit from having someone on the team with street smarts and real world experience.
I think Microsoft had a program where they were hiring the best McDonalds managers with no formal education to work in small team leadership roles.
Diversity with regards to education is good as well.
Yeah, so it’s time for women to start doing manual labor as well.
Tell me you’re uneducated without telling me you’re uneducated.
You’re giving up because there’s absolutely no substance to your argument lol. I’d give up too in that circumstance.
I don’t think this matters if they are not paying POC and all Genders a fat 6 figure salary.
Does everyone deserve 6 figures?
Corporations have tons of useless people. So this isn’t going to make the situation better. Unfortunately we’re dealing with tax breaks where they get rewarded by the corrupt state to ultimately make an inferior product.
Been there done that. It’s not a positive outcome. Nobody wants to hear it but the people who produce the quality they want are usually not the nicest people. They just happen to be the best for the job.
I’m not disagreeing with you, but can you explain how different cultures have different ways of solving problems? I’m an “ethnic minority”, but I don’t see how my problem solving methods are any different from my white, or any other group, of co-workers.
Sure.
Let’s say you come from a small village in Somewhere-istan where you grew up farming. In your town you had to get creative with how you acquired water for your crops, because it was scarce. Due to this, you grew up treating water as a precious commodity and developed methods of preventing loss, such as underground canals that combat evaporation.
Now let’s say this person moves to the United States and ends up working on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. Due to your background, you can use your knowledge in preserving and efficiently using liquids and apply this to milk, and you are able to make your team’s operation more efficient and thus make more profits through optimizing the process.
That’s a difference in work experience. If a village is trying to build underground canals to preserve water, they’d typically hire an engineer with experience in the field. They wouldn’t rely on tribal wisdom. Most of “high skill” work depends on problem solving skills learned in school and on the job.
I can see how different backgrounds is very useful for things like art design and storytelling, as having a different childhood experience and cultural background can offer unique aesthetics and perspectives. But as far as problem solving, it’s more about education and work experience.
